  1. What about those of us who dread high temperatures, clear skies and unrelenting sunshine - do we want it too - even though it will depress us?
  2. Let's take stock here. On 3rd May you claimed that we're "4 weeks away from the start of summer" (June 1st) then, in the same thread you state, conversely, that summer has only started today (June 21st) and will continue until 21st September. What conclusions can be drawn from this? 1. No-one knows when summer starts 2. Summer itself doesn't know when it starts
  3. Less than 24hours? No wonder time seems to fly by.
  4. How on earth can anyone "deserve" a certain type of weather, weird concept IMO.
  5. Nice birds but very intolerant of others on their patch. I often see them wrecking coots and morehens nests.
  6. Why Can We Have Weeks Of Rain, But Not Weeks Of Sun? Maybe we don't deserve weeks of sun, so haven't been rewarded?
  7. Looks like it might just about last until the solstice, so that'll be the first milestone out of the way.

  9. Sun/summer worshippers are like party bores: absolutely convinced that just because they want to party every weekend therefore everybody else must want to, too. Then they go on to tell you what you need, want etc. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/may/24/why-i-hate-summer
  10. This time last week "everybody" expected the cooler weather to last into June, so there is some hope, however slight.
  11. Good of you to arbitrate on reasoning now too, as well as deciding our needs on our behalf.
  12. I'd disagree there. Mornings haven't been too bad. Today for example was reasonably fresh until lunchtime. It's from about 2.30 onwards that the heat really intensifies and the humidity shoots up and then it becomes unbearable (for me, and slightly warm for you) and as far as i'm concerned the rest of the day's a write-off. I'll have to be up about 5-ish at the weekend if I want to get anything done.
  13. Quite agree with you on this one. I've been grubbing out some hedgerow in the garden after work and the sweats absolutely poured out of me. All this and it really isn't hot either, just slightly warm, apparently. Probably my own fault for not working in the shade!
  14. I'd have thought temps in the low to mid 20s are above slightly warm. I'd class that as hot, especially for May, which isn't even summer. The only good thing about today so far is the shower that I'm desperately in need of.
  15. Really? I had an extended weekend break in a cabin in the Forest of Dean and it was dry and sunny all the time and I got a bit too warm walking up the hills! Had to open all the windows every evening.
  16. Fine dry morning, cloud build after noon. Hail, sleet and a cracking thunderstorm by 3.00pm Now it's going fine and clear. What's the problem?
  17. Psychological, isn't it. Once the solstice has been and gone that just leaves July to get through. After that's over the countdown to shortening daylight can really begin.
  18. Stiff upper lip and kept the single malt in the fridge.
  19. "Long range forecast's suggest this summer could be one of the better ones than we have had of late with temperatures above average" I seem to recall a forecast last year that was very similar to that. "Been so so long since I've felt genuinely warm sun on me - probably Oct 1st last year" I remember that. I booked a cottage in the Peak District for a nice walking holiday and it was too hot to walk after lunchtime so had to stay in the pub where there was some shade.
  20. LOL Exactly what I was thinking, especially as Gavin was its loudest cheerleader!
  21. Good. I didn't think it was supposed to start for another six or seven weeks.
  22. Thank goodness for all that high pressure you're so fond of. Maybe you'll spot the connection?
  23. I only had to read the first sentence to realise I know just how he feels.
  24. Thank goodness the North East isn't affected by the drought and has plenty of water. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-17524198 Of course, Yorkshire's not in the North East!
