  1. Hmm according to the metoffice website, the temperature at Topcliffe just rose by 7 degrees in 1 hour!! What's going on, and why have the fragments of showers I've been getting here been of sleety rain!? It's all gone wrong!!! bb Edit- U beat me to it woldsowl lol!
  2. Has Countryfile gone back to lunchtime now then? Can't believe I missed it lol- does anyone have a link to watch it online? Cheers bb
  3. Well that was some truly spectacular rain- even if the wind doesn't cause problems, that's undoubtably a flash-flood maker... our street never has puddles on it but its under some water now! Wind actually wasn't any stronger than in the build up as it went through, but that was tropical-like! Love it!! bb
  4. Looks likethe most intense part may be heading for me... i think a cig out the window is a good idea for me shortly (Well a bad idea but I'm going to do it anyway so there!) bb
  5. Getting very wild outside here now, and looks like it won't be long to wait for this squall line, with it tackling the pennines about now! I wish I had my camcorder grrr! bb
  6. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8312999.stm Just came across this article, not sure if its been posted on here already or if this is the right place for it so apologies if not. I'm sure some people on here will have an opinion on it... hey maybe if we all club together, we could buy it and issue a long range forecast for an "umbrella summer"! bb
  7. And it has been cancelled so good news for the islanders and anyone over here with friends or family backpacking over there! bb
  8. You beat me to it! Just saw myself- what is going on in the pacific ring of fire?! Incidentally, I don't suppose anyone can find a correlation between earthquake activity in the south pacific and cold snowy winters over here can they? That would cheer me up. On a more serious note, lets hope that if there is a tsunami it doesn't cause any losses of life. Fingers crossed for everyone in Papau New Guinea bb
  9. That must mean its a shocking southwesterly with drizzle for all! I'm sure when there's a gale force northeasterly shown then someone will post it! Probably tomorrow! bb
  10. Is it possible to get the gfs charts or something for December 25th this early? I know they're going to be ridiculous but it might be interesting to take a look at them once or twice a week from now until christmas just to see exactly how much and how often they change between now and the big day! If they're good they might even cheer us all up temorarily from the woes of the credit crunch! bb
  11. Just saw something rather cool- The sun was shining in the west with the huge developing storm just to our east, in that extra dark effect you get when the sun's out. It was raining moderately and there was a big, flattish double rainbow right across the cloud and then a single for of IC lightning right across the rainbow! Excellent- and for info it seems to be moving very slowly to the east or northeast while developing on its southern end- York or Selby, perhaps, might be the places to be on the lookout! bb
  12. Just got home from work as some torrential downpours are developing over us- roads are flooding that I've never seen flood before! Also, for the past 15 minutes, there's been frequent thunder, and I've finally manages to catch a glimpse of some lightning, even though as I type its sunny here! Not sure which way they're going to move as we seem to be pretty much right under the low here! Anyway, I'm off to enjoy the show! bb
  13. Thanks guys, I just wasn't aware that there was meant to be a low pressure centre over france today- I blame the bbc forecasts for never showing pressure charts any more! Plus it looked very small and tightly wound. bb
  14. What's that swirling whirling thing over northern france on the sat24 visual loop right now? it looks like a mini hurricane! bb
  15. According to the radar, its been squashed around northeast york into nothing all that impressive- however, looking out to the east of here there ae some good fresh towers going up, only closer than the ones earlier. Its the last hope for you and me today i reckon 10123! Either way, at least we've lost that murk! bb
  16. Hey 10123, I think you may be right about the thirsk storms heading north. The one near huddersfield looks to be heading in the direction of leeds, unfortunately its moving at the kind of pace that suggests it will probably be falling as snow by the time it gets there! There is a tower shooting up to my southwest which could be one to watch for you, but that may be a long shot! I'm staying optimistic though, foolish as that may be! bb
  17. Been out watering the lawn and could see the anvils shooting up in the east and northeast- pretty humid here but also sunny, and nothing of note visible to the south which is where the clouds seem to be coming from, at low levels anyway. I'm hoping against hope that the line to the east somehow moves west! bb
  18. Oh no, in annoying news, i'm halfway between 2 lines of showers/storms- there's one over manchester way, and another to the east of york- on the plus side, the sun is now out properly for the first time in a couple of days and its immediately got hot! So i'm actually optimistic for something later. bb
  19. Oh No! We're in the Metoffice Warning!! Sorry, only kidding- despite the occassional anti-climax I do prefer to be in them than not! Weather right now here seems to be brightening up, dead calm, and feels pretty muggy. Anyone else having problems with sat24? I want to know if the clearer skies ae inbound!? bb
  20. Just a question for anyone who might have any thoughts- I'm hearing from some quarters that N. England will be a good place for storms today, and others, including the metoffice warnings, saying that it will just be west of the Pennines? Am I to assume that this is due to the overcast skies we've got over here this morning, stopping anything kicking off? I'm in Leeds by the way. Thanks in advance and to those that do get the storms today, keep the pics and vids coming! bb
  21. I really want to go on a chase today, but there doesn't seem to be anything going on around here! I should've known it would all go wrong when we were included in the weather warning lol! On the plus side its muggy and the sun is out, and the clouds I can actually see through the haze look to be bubbling nicely! bb
  22. Just heard a rumble from the dark cloud out to my west/southwest- southern part of leeds at a guess- annoying 'cos I drove right past there on my way home from work an hour ago, although even then I ran into a fairly heavy shower for a bit. Unexpected from me today- now please come to Garforth!
  23. Cheers things... just another request of you- I've been trying to find a link where I can listen to a local radio station online from say Mackay or Airlie Beach but have had no joy... I don't suppose you or anyone else on here has been able to find one because I think it does give a new and interesting perspective on the situation! Cheers, bb
  24. Indeed I was horribly wrong I'm afraid. The one straw of hope to clutch at for the central coast is that if its anything like Larry, the very worst of the winds will be on the right side of the track ie, the east out at sea- of course, its hardly going to be a pleasant tropical day on the coast and I wouldn't want to be sailing the Whitsundays this weekend! Would be good to see some videos of this as there weren't very many good ones of Larry that I could find, and the one I had was on the camera that got stolen! p.s 295kph gusts? Ouch! bb
  25. I think I better stock up on Bundaberg Rum before the factory blows away! Impressive storm this, especially seen as at the start of this week the BOM were calling for not much more than a wet tropical low to bring heavy rain to TNQ. Still not quite up to legendary Larry statud, which almost blew me away! bb
