  1. Jus something I've been getting a bit addicted to this season- watching the local news coverage as hurricanes head towards them! It definitely gives you a new perspective on the storm... here is some live streaming video from a houston news station.. http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/feature?sectio...&id=6102015 bob
  2. Unbelievable intensification for the second time! upto 135mph, up 20mph in 3 hours... I wouldn't wanna be in cuba right now! Well maybe with my video camera in a very sturdy building!
  3. http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/flt/t4/loop-rgb.html Im no expert but the convection really seems to shoot up on the east side of the storm in the last couple of frames of this loop... could be a sign of Ike intensifying again perhaps?
  4. Absolutely unbelievable intensification! The Max sustained winds at 5pm ET were 80 mph, and on the latest advisory at 8 pm Et they have gone up to 115mph, making Ike a category 3! The new forecast calls for winds to be up around 110-115 knots upto 5 days ahead and the forecast track takes it very close to DR, Cuba and then Florida... certainly one to watch i'd say!
  5. http://www.wdsu.com/video/17347538/index.html Just a link to a news channel in NO showing water starting to pour over the Industrial Canal levy, here's hoping that it doesnt rise any more!
  6. Just in case anyone wants live streaming tv news from NO, here's a link. http://www.wdsu.com/video/17347538/index.html
  7. Just about time to start checking out the local news coverage of this storm... here is a link i found for live streaming new orleans news... currently covering the evacuation order but no doubt will be showing the storm as it comes in. http://www.wdsu.com/video/17347538/index.html
  8. Latest advisory says now upto 120mph and down to 955 mb and could become cat4 before hitting cuba, followed by further strengthening over the GoM!
  9. hi mate, yeah this is it though the live stream is only available when theyre actually doing coverage of the storm.... although that is most of the time to be honest! http://cbs4.com/
  10. Wow... i'm watching the live stream from Channel 4 news from CBS in Miami... within the last 5 minutes their studio meteorologist has come on looking a bit bemused, saying that a hurricane hunter aircraft has just reported a pressure of 977mb, sustained flight level winds of 75kts in the northwest quadrant of the storm, and a ragged eye wall forming. So it definitely looks like this is on the way to becoming a hurricane, even if that pressure reading is inaccurate. Also, in the past hour the local doppler radar has shown a definite shift in the centre of rotation to the east, though they are saying this is probably just a temporary wobble. bob
  11. NHC 8am EDT update: REPORTS FROM AN AIR FORCE RESERVE HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT INDICATE THAT MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NOW NEAR 60 MPH...100 KM/HR... WITH HIGHER GUSTS. SOME STRENGTHENING IS EXPECTED AS THE CENTER OF FAY MOVES OVER WATER. FAY IS FORECAST TO BE APPROACHING HURRICANE STRENGTH IN THE FLORIDA KEYS AND TO BECOME A HURRICANE BEFORE IT REACHES THE FLORIDA PENINSULA. TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 105 MILES...165 KM FROM THE CENTER. ESTIMATED MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE IS 1002 MB...29.59 INCHES. FAY IS EXPECTED TO PRODUCE TOTAL RAINFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 4 TO 8 INCHES OVER MUCH OF CUBA...WITH ISOLATED MAXIMUM AMOUNTS OF 12 INCHES. THESE RAINS COULD PRODUCE LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODS AND MUD SLIDES. HEAVY RAINS ARE EXPECTED TO SPREAD ACROSS SOUTH FLORIDA TODAY. STORM TOTAL AMOUNTS OF 4 TO 8 INCHES...WITH MAXIMUM AMOUNTS OF 10 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE FOR THE FLORIDA KEYS AND SOUTH FLORIDA
  12. Hey guys, just a question from an amateur here! I was looking on weather.com's storm tracker and it appeared that Fay was upgraded to a tropical storm whilst over land in the Dominican Republic. I know it was marginal to being over sea, but it then seemed to move inland for quite some time. My confusion is because I thought any intensification would occur over the sea and the very best it could hope for would be to maintain strength over land? Is this only true for more powerful systems, or can the storm still draw strength from water beneath its outer edges, or is it something else altogether? Would be massively appreciative of any clarification you lot can provide! Thanks, bob.
  13. Its thundering in spalding, South Lincs!
