  1. Hoping some of those cells to the south west may turn thundery. Won't hold my breath though. Glad to see the North and East getting another pounding for a change, hope you enjoy them guys
  2. Having only lived down here for nearly 7 years i can't go back that far in regards to thunder activity here, but i can say, the years 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008 and this year were pretty quiet for storms. Also when i was younger living in Blackpool storms where very far between and we normally only ever got them in the summer and were relatively quite weak, though we did have a few good thumping ones. 2003 was a very dry year apart from the November, with lots of sunny weather we only had 4 thunderstorms that year. 2004 was a strange year, warm dry spring and a warm-ish wet summer, again only 4 storms, 3 of which occured in the August. 2007 & 2008 were very similar, very boaring dull weather with both years having only 4. Last year only May and June had storms. However 2005/06 were brilliant years, the most thunderest i've ever known. Though 2005 was mainly due to the two exceptional spanish plumes in very warm late June, but every storm that year i would class as being violent with the most intense rainfall and lightning i've seen. June 24th brung 6 storms in a row which was increadible, each one almost identical with very frequent lightning and deluge like downpours one of them dropped nearly 30mm in as many minutes not to mention the March 23rd. We had a total of 12 storms that year. 2006 was the most exceptional despite having a 9 month gap from 2005, we had a storm every month for 6 months straight starting from June and again nearly every one was violent especailly the ones on June 12th and October 10th, which included very vivid lightning displays and the most loudest thunder and torriential downpours. We had two storms in August, September and 3 in October, with one in each of the other months from June brining a total of 11 storms that year. I'm puzzled as to why 2004 wasnt included with 2005/06 as it was generally more unsettled but still warm. I think the cooler sea temperatures and the lack of southerly winds have been the main reason the last two years havn't been very good here. Like many others have said i think we're just going through a quiet phase, which could possibly be due to it being persistantly warm and there not being many frequent shots of cooler air, like past typical british summer used to be like. With the last two being to frequently cool. (sorry for waffling)
  3. Heavy showers here, going dark again im praying we might be finally blessed with a storm. But i think tommorow may hold better prospects.
  4. I love hot and thundery weather in the summer, but i also love cold snowy weather in the winter. But i suppose i would probally pick summer over winter, i like warm humid but not massivly so evenings and Hot dry sunny weather with occasional big storms. We dont really get much of either tbh
  5. It hasn't rained here for two weeks and June was the 5th dry month in a row here coupled with the decent amount of sunshine we have had the ground has dried out and the grass is nearly all brown so i think we need some rain hopefully we won't get too much of a deluge though.
  6. Just been out for a walk with the dog, can see the front clouds of the cells to the south, no flashes or bangs seen or heard yet, though its gone increadibly humid out and its still fairly warm to say it only reached 23.5c today its still 18.6c, it was still 19.8c around half 9.
  7. I hope that MCS over northern france acutally reaches our shores, been itching for some acitivty all week. I have my camera ready! lol
  8. Been quite hazy/cloudy all day but its still managed to reach 24.9c today. I would hold out hope we may reach what i'd class as heatwave values for here (27c) but i think we may have temps in the mid twenties till friday maybe, which is what normally happens here. Still this is a big improvement on last year, when the hottest temp was 24.8c.
  9. Hopefully we may get some imports tonight, before they move eastwards. I dont know about anybody else, but when we get a storm in the early hours or in the morning, a very warm sometimes even hot humid day follows with or without sunshine, does that happend to anybody else? as i always thought that thunderstorms cleared the air and made it fresher or is it more complex?
  10. Sorry John and to those i missed out in the South West, but as you correctly say those regions tend to experiance much higher temps and its this which i think the Meto based their 30c range on, I do apologise i meant to mention this. We reached 25.8c here today but i think we were lucky the sea breeze was cut off at lunchtime.
  11. I think a heatwave is defined by what tempeatures normally reach in certain locations, a good starting point would be 25c+. But it depends how often you reach these vaules, so some areas it would be higher and some areas around 25c. I do think the Meto have been really picky when doing the regional values, for example the South West they have said 30c, well for most of Devon and Cornwall those sort of values are very rare indeed, more so in Cornwall. I would say anything higher than 26c would be more appropiate, seeing as it has too be a very strong almost perfect set up to reach the magic 30c, it struggles to get higher than 25c here, but we have reached it every summer bar the last two.
  12. Quite suprise at how warm its turned out here, this morning we had a cool sea breeze coming in and temps were around 21c, but around lunchtime spots of cloud bubbled up and the temperature has shot up to the 24/5c region, with a max so far of 25.8c. Some small thundery looking clouds have bubbled overhead again, current temp.23.3c
  13. My guess would be around 36c or possibly even 37c, somewhere in south east/south midlands area, in Late July/Early August. Last summer was the worst for heat i've ever experianced in this country, the highest temperature we had last summer was 24.5c and we only reached 24c twice. Hopefully we should get our first 80F+ figure over the coming days.
  14. Its been going more and more grey to the east, but the clouds arn't really moving very quick. To dark to see now But could possibly be a storm brewing just out to sea, i wouldn't put it past it round here. The 12th June Event all kicked off with a small cell that developed just out to see and turned into a multicell monster which saw some of the most frequent lightning displays i've seen.
  15. I too agree with what GP has been saying about July and have had similar thoughts for a while now. I think its going to be a hot July especailly later on, once the El Nino driven pattern kicks in. I think the first half of the month will be fairly Thundery and eventually turn cooler but still remaning on the warmish side. But turning much warmer and drier from around mid month onwards to leave a very warm and mostly dry second half, with the small posbility of quite a potent heatwave setting up in the last week or so. Therefore im going to be brave as well lol, with my punt of 19.3c
  16. Its slightly more humid and warmer today here, we have some cumulus clouds bubbling up to the north so i think a shower may spark off near Dartmoor somewhere later. We definatly have the heat here for some storms already 25.8c outside 26c is looking very likely high for today.
  17. Stunning again today with lighter winds, already hotter than yesterday. Current Temp: 25.2c Dew Point: 14c Humidity: 51% The temp was still 18c at midnight last night. Edit: Its now 25.7 hopefully we might get some storms later
  18. Here's hoping they drift there way over here , although its not been very humid at all today, RH was 44% during the hottest part of the day its only 55% now. This forecast reminds me of early May 2006 when some quite severe storms sparked off on the M4 corridor and drifted eastwards during the evening into the Bristol Area/ North Devon and South Wales. Temps that day were in the mid 20's. But it wasnt forecast to my memory.
  19. Third day of completely crystal clear skies, absolutly lovely. Currently 24.8c with a Max so far of 25.1c It makes this the warmest day since last May when we reached 24.8c and the first time we've reached 25c since August 2007. If its as warm as this tomorrow it'll be the warmest June day since 2006.
  20. I think its going to be a fairly warm June. Pleasantly warm possibly very warm during the first week and into the second, but turning cooler and wetter from the middle of the second week onwards for the middle part of the month. But then turning much warmer and drier as we go into the last part of June (3rd week or so) with the possiblitly of a Heatwave during the last week. I think June will be very Thundery at times this year and quite thundery overall. So my lucky punt for June will be 15.8c Please
  21. I'll go for 12.6c, warm start and possibly warm end but i think we may see abit more of the Euro Monsoon this year.
  22. Well im hoping we might actually reach 25c this year as we failed last year. But i think we're in for a warm one this year as my sig has suggested for months now lol, but i thought it was abit bold for the met to say they think El Nino would be the cause. I remember June 2006 very well, lounging around outside sixth form in the sunshine, though it wasn't a completely warm sunny month it went abit iffy around the 13th-15th and then again in the last week for a couple of days. The highest temp we had was 25c on the 12th after one hell of a thunderstorm in the early hours and it was cloudy that day. June 2003 was pretty much on par with June 2006 here. The early August heatwave i'll never forget with 5 days of 30c and above peaking at 33c, i've never witnessed such hot weather in the uk. I was in Greece during the middle two weeks in July 2006 so i don't know how that fared but i don't think it surpassed 30/1c from what my relatives said.
  23. Lovely sunny day again and without the sea breeze we had yesterday, a few cumuls clouds have bubbled up but still had the warmest day of the year so far, with a max of 19.0c today currently 16.8c Looks likely we may outpeak todays temp as the week goes on, maybe even the magic 20c.
  24. Warmest day of the year so far today, finally reached over 16c with a high of 17.7c. Been warm and sunny all day though abit hazy at times, but still a gorgeous day.
  25. I think theres a possible connection with the European monsoon and the british summer. The euro monsoon normally occurs in stages from Mid-May till Mid or Late June, i've noticed in most years when a mostly settled May occurs a disturbed summer normally follows, more often so in June and July as the Monsoon arrives in the summer instead of late Spring. But when the Euro monsoon kicks in as it normally does a typical or even warm summer normally follows. It could be just utter nonsense but i believe there has to be some connection there and that some summers dont materialise very well due to other factors (e.g La Nina) developing/changing around that period.
