  1. Only heard snippets on radio today re the rain due etc. It all seemed like it was going to be torrential and thundery. On closer reading and what not it seems it's not going to affect this area to any significant extent. More the usual sort of rainfall? Today has been fine anyway and without rain, at least that I noticed.

The talk of torrential thundery downpours intrigued me merely for it sounding like an unusual weather event for us. Seems anything as such would be further North?

Thought I'd just see if someone could actually clarify the situation?

  2. Well after that nice spell we had I said we probably will not see another settled/warm spell lasting as long again this summer! I still believe this with maybe the odd warm & sunny day or two but overall I feel we have seen the longest/hottest spell of summer 2009. We will continue to see what we are currently with the odd day or two hitting 23c - 25c in SE. Nothing over 28c again this summer.

  3. Will we see any further warm spells though.......that will be in some minds! This could be it and I believe this is it. I don't think we will get another spell lasting this long again this summer. Even we may have well experienced out highest summer temperatures.

Now I dread the jet coming down and the rest of summer becoming wetter and cooler with conditions turning average at best. This current spell of weather is awesome and I'd love to see a fast reload but this is the UK and I'm aware that these conditions aren't regular for our Island.

DATA question!! Does anyone know of a summer where we had more than 1 spell of above average warmth and sun lasting 5 consecutive days or more?

  4. Normally in my lifetime the highest temps have tended to occur in early August or late July, so we still have a while to go. If this same set up repeated in a months time then instead of 30C-32C maxima, we could we looking at 32C-35C maxima, and others have suggested a very hot spell in late July, but taht is in a months time so we have a lot of weather to enjoy untill then

Indeed most of the 30c days recorded in the UK, I believe, are in July/Aug rather than now. However, I think we will struggle to get a set up like this again this summer, in order to get anything higher. Maybe a one or two day spell but at best temperatures similar to current recordings. I'd go as far as saying I believe this will be our longest and warmest spell of summer 2009.

  5. So looking at the BBC forecast it'll be sunnier tomorrow than it was today. Surely it'll cloud up like it did today and yesterday....... Still getting warm quickly though. Temperature wise I think about the same as today. The GFS is showing 27c for tomorrow yet for today it was showing 28c. So will it actually be less sunny tomorrow? Or will the day be less warm due to a cooler night, because right now it looks like it'll be a clearer night than last night!?

EDIT; Lovely evening, calm, pleasant and with the whiff of BBQ in the air! Sadly England are loosing to Germany but what else was going to happen LOL!

  6. Has that figure not just been rounded up from the 29.6C that has been quoted?

Yes indeed which is what I just said. The temp then dropped a bit and has now increased again. Due to the cloud cover that has popped up!

  7. 29c the BBC say in London today, it's been cloudy since around 10am and the air temp is barely 24c ... Temps will really struggle to hit the 30c odd if we get this amount of cloud. It feels warmer than 24c but the actual temp isn't.

It is warmer further in to Greater London and the city but yes. I feel this cloud will hinder temps and will prevent us hitting anything over 30c....

  8. I think on any time from Saturday-Tuesday 30C will be reached, probably in SE

That would be nice - for me at least anyway. Although I just feel we will record a max temperature of 27c/28c or maybe even 29c in a favoured spot. Rain or thunder showers will spoil the higher temps I feel.....
