  1. Yeah there's a Q&A thing on the BBC site and he says his favourite weather is cold and snowy.
  2. Oh but one thing I did notice in the joke of a lunchtime forecast was the return of the wind arrows! He said they were new, but they were really the old ones brought back. Don't know if it was just for the gales in Scotland or whether they will be making a regular return.
  3. They only seem to be used on the 5 day forecasts though which is a shame. But of course when the forecast is done by somebody who doesn't have a clue about the weather (e.g. on Breakfast) then they can't really use synoptic charts.
  4. I love it when that happens, especially during the wintry season. Say it's about 7c, a shower comes along and the temperature plummets several degrees, you get the exciting possibility of unexpected wintriness!
  5. Yeah and I think Phil Avery is up there as well. I remember him reacting angrily to a Daily Express headline live on BBC News stating that Britain was about to be hit by a huge storm. He criticised the "sensationalist" headlines, shows he is on the same wavelength as most of us on here!
  6. Rob is the best, the only one who doesn't look like he is going to cry when snow is on the way!
  7. The brief downtimes will be worth it I am sure! I have only been a member for 2 years but so much has changed - all for the better!
  8. That really is quite incredible. 1c in August on its own is very notable! Even moreso that it is in the south. Guessing temperatures like that in August in the south are very difficult to find in the history books. But in the space of 12 hours it went from winter woolies to shorts and t-shirt! Remarkable.
  9. But they are paid (I am guessing a fairly handsome amount) to forecast the weather, not to act! Some of them would make great actors and presenters, but for weather forecasting they simply do not match. I am all for making weather forecasts more "cheerful" and "topical" but as you say, there is a fine line, and the likes of Thomasz Shafernaker and Dan Corbett cross it too far too often - rain is not treacle Dan....
  10. Bloody hell, when was that (month + year)?
  11. Did anybody just see the lunchtime forecast by Thomasz Shafernaker? Had to be one of the worst forecasts I have ever seen, he was so patronising I had to mute the TV. Did the entire forecast in an annoying "sing song" voice. Really was dreadful.
  12. Here come the downgrades :whistling:
  13. Fully agreed, the BBC forecasts are just a tiny branch of their huge product range. Businesses, the military, airlines, local authorities - they all depend on the METO.
  14. This reminds me of the Model Discussion Cliche thread we had last year!
  15. If only we still had rep, that would be a +1 from me! This thread is just to put the various Xmas forecasts on really and then for us lot to moan/laugh at them!
  16. Ah the memories of winter on Netweather!
  17. Lmao he's brilliant, "What kind of racist **** is this?!" I think the reason it is 45% because they know it's 50-50 and nobody knows, but they don't want it to seem that way!
  18. So there is! Never actually noticed that!
  19. Yeah just to firm up details like how many feet of snow each location will get and how many degrees below freezing the max temperature will be, just these little details now!
  20. Is this the first rise? http://www.ijis.iarc.uaf.edu/en/home/seaice_extent.htm It's minute, and it's dropped again since, but it looks like the first rise to me.
  21. But it is an IF the size of a small country!
  22. Maybe we should have a competition seeing who can guess what the CFS will throw out for Xmas tomorrow! I am guessing a high pressure slapped right on top of us, a cold, frosty Christmas isn't too bad!
  23. As you say, it just shows how daft it is trying to forecast anything more than 3 months away! When is the NW first Xmas forecast usually released?
