  1. Snow is getting heavier, but with very little or no settling. I think it might just be starting to settle on existing patches of snow, but that's about it. And Andy, ignore those PPN type charts, they automatically show rain when 850s are above -5c, but as you have pointed out yourself this isn't always the case.
  2. We do not have all night at all. This will clear by early evening. I am about 145m Albion Snowman, isn't helping though!
  3. This is rubbish. It is just melting the snow I have left and it is making the ground even wetter. Met Office have dropped yet another clanger by the looks of it.
  4. In fact, all this wet snow is going to do is just wash the grit off the roads, and with the severe shortage that could open a whole new world of problems.
  5. The flakes could be the size of footballs here but they wouldn't settle. Met Office got it wrong I'm afraid!
  6. I cannot see the Met Office warning coming true, people will be very lucky indeed to get more than an inch on low ground. Saying that though the snow is gradually getting heavier here, but it is still not settling, and if I am honest I don't expect it to all evening.
  7. What is your elevation? Just a few metres can make all the difference sometimes. Your temperature should start to drop rapidly now though, I started off as sleet/very wet snow, now it seems wet snow which is getting drier as it is starting to swirl. Temp now 2.3c.
  8. Nothing much to be excited about to be honest. Met Office have cursed it again. Snow is just too wet to settle and is slightly melting the existing cover. A nuisance so far.
  9. Temperature has dropped very quickly here, now 2.5c, snow isn't that heavy though. Small flakes too.
  10. :o I presume that is a jokey comment. Not our fault we have had more snow than others!
  11. As expected the PPN is dying out as it reaches South Staffordshire
  12. For daily temperatures of 4c+ there has been very little thaw, seems very odd. Temp now down to 3.6c, just a bit more...
  13. Yes I really should start believing you! I am glad I bought the NW radar now, very useful. Will almost certainly get a decent top up this afternoon =]
  14. That's a good thing about not seeing proper snow before, when we get a decent fall we think it is great! Our expectations are very low compared to people who saw winters in the 60s, 70s or 80s. Anyway, cloud now thickening all the time, and temp has dropped considerably to 4.1c, probably won't rise again today.
  15. That will almost certainly be extended to 10 days, and some people in the South Midlands could see their lying snow last for 2 weeks, maybe even more. This is something that us young people have never seen before!
  16. To prove my point about suddenly dropping temperatures, it has just happened. The sunshine goes slightly hazy and the temp drops 0.3c very quickly.
  17. Going by my new favourite gadget, the PPN is intensifying as rapidly as it deteoriorated! I thoroughly recommend it if you haven't already bought it - only £3.49 for a month! My only worry is the temperature. I am fast approaching the 5c mark
  18. When the sun goes behind the cloud the temp should drop notably. Starting to get some cloud cover now, and the PPN will arrive when the sun is setting, so it will be mostly snow.
  19. At the moment tiny changes in detail could make all the difference. And we have all seen that things haven't gone the way they should have in some instances this week!
  20. You could get a right dumping. If current forecasts are anything to go by, your lower limit could be 6 inches of the stuff, and with very strong winds there could be drifting. But it is a long time yet and it could all change.
  21. Well, this is finally enough to force me to purchase the NW radar for the coming month, I feel it could be very useful indeed! Some parts of the south Midlands will easily get a foot of snow on Tuesday.
  22. Ah here we go now. The precipitation obviously popped down to the shops or something as it is now starting to reform, regroup and reintensify. Hopefully cloud cover should start to spill in very soon. Countryfile looked interesting for tomorrow night. Little too close for comfort for my location, but I am sure I will get something. The South Midlands could see some exceptionally heavy snowfall and blizzards. An early warning has been issued by the Met Office, predicting between 5-10cm and upto 20cm on the hills. I think it could even be more than that in some spots. The warning spreads as far north as Derbyshire. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_...t_warnings.html
