  1. This has been a grim December so far, and I really don't hold out much hope for the rest of the month. I echo the thoughts above about being fed up of the mud!
  2. What was your opinion of the month, mushy? I ask as you're one of the few mildies on the forum!
  3. My favourite month of weather bar none. Brutal cold, and we probably won't see its like again, sadly. My overriding memory of that month was Christmas, when I was back home in Staffordshire. We usually kept drinks outside to keep cold over Christmas to save on fridge space, but that was a bit tricky when it didn't get above -6C despite gloriously sunny skies!
  4. A pretty wretched Autumn. Everything is boggy and muddy, bring on a cold, frosty spell.
  5. No chance. You're not going to get snow with temps and dew points of 3-4C at the lowest, which is what the GFS is showing. The Chilterns only go up to 267m.
  6. So much nicer going to work in the light this morning, and the extra hour of sleep too!
  7. I tend to go to bed around that time when I'm on day shift. I don't want it light beyond 10pm!
  8. Thing is though, most people don't get home from work until 6ish. Even with an extra hour of daylight in the evening it'll still be dark by that point. We're too far north for any amount of clock changing to satisfy everyone.
  9. I didn't realise the EU had actually voted to bin the clock change. Cork won't see the sun rise in mid December until 9.40am as a result. Wow.
  10. I am working day shifts (7.30 start) both this weekend and next. Actually looking forward to next weekend so I'm getting up when it's light! Oh and the extra hour in bed on Sunday morning too haha.
  11. The world is a very different place to 60 years ago. We cannot base policy decisions on data collected before the majority of people were even born! I'd be all for a new study, but to use data when just a fraction of the cars were on the road compared to now would be silly. Not only that, but working habits have changed, more kids get lifts to school, people commute further, the types of roads have changed (we have more motorways now for example), before you even get to the massive increase in traffic in the last 60 years.
  12. Aside from the washout in the first few days, this is shaping up to be a very boring month. Nothing particularly Autumnal, looking probable to be frost-free for most - dull.
  13. Thankfully the clocks go back next week to make mornings a little less gloomy.
  14. The pattern of drought-deluge-drought appears to continue. What happened to regular rainfall? September is showing that once again it's one of the best months of the year. Plenty of pleasant warmth but without the unpleasantness of summer (warm nights, very early daylight and strong sunlight).
  15. Given the spring circumstances and restrictions, I would have much preferred it to be the other way around.
  16. A beautiful Autumnal morning today. Sunny and chilly!
  17. I noticed yesterday while driving back from Warwick how the trees seem further ahead this year than normal. Perhaps the drought stress of the spring had something to do with it?
  18. Likewise on the other side when it's cloudy for a day or two and the bleating starts Or maybe not everyone can afford to simply splash out £300 min and the bills that come with the electricity usage? Nearly as funny as when a certain poster suggested I just jump in my pool which everyone has in their back garden of course. I think some people could do with a reality check
  19. What do I do for night shifts then? Sleep on the streets?
  20. 33C and 13C are both unpleasant to be in, but at least my flat is warm when it's 13C. At 33C there's no comfort.
  21. While I prefer this to the 33C last year, to not even be at 14C at nearly midday in August is shocking.
  22. Definitely a stark contrast between your locations in terms of rainfall:
  23. I tend to regard May as more of a summer month than August these days.
