  1. They've had higher than that in Wales, usually around the northwest tip, its well exposed. Apparently now up to 112mph in Aberdaron.
  2. I'm beginning to think the metoffice may have under rated this one? Gusts of 90-110mph being recorded in coastal Wales already.
  3. Wild night here, but its not rattling the tiles yet. Wind is blowing from the south which is very unusual here. It normally batters in from the west. Gusts are VERY short n punchy.
  4. Roof isn't rattling so it's nothing here really, just very windy, but the gusts are certainly very short and PUNCHY. Rain is the heaviest I've seen for a couple of weeks. Unusual though for the wind to be coming directly from the south, it almost always comes in from the west here.
  5. More damage occurs down south because they don't get storms like this often, so what's ready to come down comes down all in one go, whereas up here we see them pretty often and the damage is more spread out, repairs happen more often so the problems are more kept on top of. Certainly has been overhyped for us up here. The south just got what we've been getting up here for the past month. Just been at friends who live about 1000ft ASL, very exposed. Nothing out of the ordinary up there either for winter storm weather.
  6. We've given it a chance, its nothing more than what we would normally get up here. The way it's been hyped I was expecting at least a repeat of 1998 Boxing day or worse, but it's bugger all different from any other storm we've had the past month in regard to windspeeds. If anything it's been less.
  7. Agreed. We've had far worse in the past few months. Its rattled the roof for a while earlier, but nothing of any particular note. Was expecting armageddon but its just a normal winter storm. We'll see how it goes as the day goes on, but I'm not expecting anything worse than what we've had already this month.
  8. I think we've gotten used to it over the past month. Everything that was going to blow down or away already did weeks ago. It always was going to have to be exceptional for up here, and the way people down south were talking last night, I thought there might be a chance going by that and the way the charts looked......disappointed!
  9. That's what I was thinking, everything that was going to blow down/off/away already did months ago. As you say, we've been living in severe gales since the start of the month now so we're settled into it. The way people were talking I thought it was going to be something epic once it got up here, but nope, just an ordinary storm.
  10. I was expecting at least something like bawbag or the 98 boxing day storm, but nope, just typical winter storm weather, rattles the roof but nothing out the ordinary.
  11. We've had worse here in the past few weeks, this has come to jigger all for here.
  12. Kinda fizzled away here this morning, bit gusty but nothing special. We've had worse several times in the past few weeks.
  13. Picking up here now in Ayrshire, roof tiles rattling with the stronger gusts so hell knows what it'll be like come mid afternoon. Looking at the satellite sequences, the main low looks as if its eating the two lows to the west of it. Its just hoovering them apart!
  14. Sustained around 30mph, so gradually picking up, pretty gusty back n forth, each time abit more so!
  15. Both certainly seem to be getting hoovered into it!
  16. Is that 2 other systems feeding into the one over us now? O.o
  17. So much for those charts not putting anything out in that region of windspeeds.......lmao. Well if its like that down there......tomorrow is going to be very interesting up here!
  18. Pretty gusty here in ayrshire now, rain is lashing down, windows look like waterfalls!
  19. I can see 150mph+ coming off in the Highlands no problem. Friedhelm in 2011 got to 165mph at Cairngorm. Sustained 93mph and gusts to 105mph have already been measured up their today, and this storm is much more intense than Friedhelm. Everything that Buriedundersnow has mention is certainly possible with this storm system.
  20. Always the same, if affects southern England or London, it's 1000x worse than it is anywhere else and its only them who exist. What do you expect?! lol
  21. As Bawbag gave a reading of 165mph at Cairngorm.......makes you wonder what this is going to top out at up there this time round......
  22. Wish you guys down south got this stuff more often, it would usually save us up here in Scotland having it, and you would be more used to it. Not looking forward to it working its way up here tomorrow tbh, looks like we might see gusts over 100mph.
  23. Again, I'm completely puzzled that the Met Office don't have amber warnings out for up here, at least for tomorrow. They are still forecasting gusts of in excess of 90mph and NOAA is sill putting out for sustained windspeeds over 70mph up the Irish sea and along the west coast of Scotland.....
