  1. Worst I remember here was boxing day 1998, nothing has come close to it yet here. I remember going to my grandparents just 6 miles away the day after, and the entire street they lived in was like a bomb site, the roofs were almost bare, the chimney stacks (not just the chimney pots) were in the front gardens, everyones sheds and fences were gone, the brick building across the road was just a pile of bits, the ceilings inside the houses had given way, they were flexing so much, windows gave in. It was just chaos. Theres not even a weather station anywhere near them, except prestwick (12 miles away ) which recorded 105mph. The village they live in is 600-700ft above sea level.... Im just wondering what kind of windspeads are we talking to cause that amount of damage?!
  2. Just had a nice storm here, went on from around 21:30, and stopped about half an hour ago. I went outside to watch it, and got SOAKED through, streets were like rivers. Had to come back in home as some of the strikes were getting abit too close for comfort! Best we`ve had here for a while meh thinks.
  3. White here now I REALLY dont want any snow this year for a change. For one, i saw enough of it last year, it looks pretty for a little while then it grates on me. I have ALOT of places to get to. I have to travel across to the borders for work on sunday, by public transport too! Then next weekend (5th december) ive got to travel to Wolverhampton to see some friends, and its cost me a fortune already. I REALLY do not want snow. NOOOOOOOOOOOO
  4. 110mph at Prestwick airport too, where some of the planes were blown over. It was a WILD night. Definetly the one I remember most, theres still damage around here from that storm.
  5. now, heres one. Slightly off topic. How strong a wind would it take to blow every chimney stack (not just the chimney pot, the stack too) for every house in a street?
  6. watch this pass over here too! I went out the back, spotted it and said, oooo thunder! And......there was thunder immediatly after i said it!
  7. Had two storms pass over today, the first giving some very heavy rain for about 30 mins or so! Just looking at the infared on the met office, not far off the northwest coast, there seems to be something with what looks like an eye, and giving some rotation as you take it back to 1800hrs, and play it back through, you see it come together......... http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/satpics/latest_uk_ir.html
  8. Thaw on here last night and today, more recent snow is gone and we are down to the ice/compact snow from before xmas. Currently raining. I think its over here :'(

  10. was out a walk earlier and took some pics, tho i have no idea how to upload them onto here. For the first time since i was little, the river doon is frozen over, which i am surprised at, as its pretty fast flowing. I reckon, maybes if the cold keeps up a few days more, with no thaw, it might even be frozen over at the faster flowing areas where its not catching yet!
  11. Top temp of -5 here today! Had an inch of powder over the 3" of ice. Its currently -11 and even the river doon is starting to freeze over. Its been about 15 years since i remember the weather being like this! Sure beats wind n rain!
  12. Dont think we will see anything here, had a few flurries thismorning, and some rain but thats bn it. Maybe we will get a flake or two!
  13. The pavements are like a sheet of glass round here, i wish it would stop melting and freezing over!!!. I dont think theres a shop with salt in it in the whole of ayrshire! Maybes a nice fresh layer of snow will help, some proper powdery snow would be lovely!
  14. Yep, its LETHAL here now, much worse than it was before, its like a sheet of glass!
  15. Had heavy rain here all day, thaw has well and truly set in down here!
  16. got abit of melt here, i can hear loads of dripping
  17. Yeah, its been coming down here now very nicely for the past half hour or so, nice big powdery flakes! Got another 1 1/2" so far and its still coming down moderately! I hope it doesnt all melt!, mind it would be gd to get rid of that ice thats about, its LETHAL!
  18. snow/hail/freezing rain here! Got about 1cm of slush!
  19. Currently sleet here just now, its turning more to rain i think!
  20. Got light snow here atm, its bn about -2 most of the day!!. Was up in Rankinston earlier (if you know where that is!) and there is about 9" of snow there, its had a wee bit of melting though, tbh, i expected more up there than what there was!!
  21. wonder if that lump of snow over the north east will make it down here to the south west by the early hours? its certainly moving in that direction going by the radar. mind the Highlands will have a gd chew at it on its way down!
  22. After all the calamity, its now stopped, its only added an inch of slush ontop of the 2" of snow we had yesterday. Hopefully it freezes over nicely! Roads are lethal tho!
  23. Blowing a blizard here, but, it seems to be wet snow now its not settling like it was earlier, and its melting!!!!!! GRRRR Always has to be spoiled here!
  24. My dad cant get home, he works about 10 miles east of muirkirk! Says he cant even see the road at all! Its heavy here too and its very breezy!
