another heavy shower.....the ground is nicely white now
-
Hi Hanners!
I think we've now seen the last of the 'graining/Graupel' and it'll be flakes from here on in!
Hi Wolfie mate, yup you appear to be quite correct...I've just been out and it's snowing steadily, and it was all flakes
-
slight shower now but for the first time today it's flakes rather than grains
-
well there's a snow shower (grains) just passed over but the good sign is...it stuck and left a dusting thats blowing about.....not much but a least it's not melting
-
Well, I'm going to have a stab at predicting when the North East gets it's first blast. So far one or two sprinkles of grauply type precip but you've got to look hard!
My gues will be 10-00pm for Tyne and Wear.
Anyone else wanna try ?
Karl
lol...ok then i'll go for 8-25 pm
-
A light snow shower just passed.....it looks promising as it settled(for the tiny amount that it was)readily on the cars
-
Wow! what a countryfile forecast,a potential for up to 40cm of snow for the pennine areas
-
The sun's come out now
-
 powder snow here..................and getting heavier!!!!!
-
Ok I am a member of SACRA but truly feel this has the potential to be an event we'll be still talking about in the summer.....and referencing back to in winters to come....well let's hope so
-

The geordies usually expect at least 8'
-
steady snow here atm with a light covering on the ground.

My thought(for as little as it's worth) regarding BBC weather forecasting it is purely one they by rights are unable to resolve............as a national broadcaster they generalise and forecast for population centres as the average.........as a result if they say it'll rain in Newcastle but may be wintery on higher ground i'll accept that because if they're wrong we are the first to jump on them.

Northants Snow-
You havent read the post then-
Nowhere has it mentioned that the Winter will be above average or am I forecasting total mild doom & gloom- Just the preponderance of weather from the East is reduced-
This December has been very cold because of Stagnent cold air at the surface & a mean height anomaly to the EAST/South east-
And in my area at least it has been proven that not all winter weather must come from the East, after the snow event that came from the NW last week it was followed on Saturday by snow from a southerly direction and I still have snow lying, forgive if I'm wrong but I took it as you're saying just don't expect the beastie from the East this year just more an average winter spots and all

Snow falling here 3am onward
-
That's because it's a forecast not a definite. It's vague up until the point the snow hits my lawn then it's definite !! We've seen it go belly up sooooo many times.
Good point well made turnedoutniceagain,I rather than meaning a definitive answer was more pointing out I didn't feel they even had a stab at it.

Thanks a lot!
I'll post more photos from here.
Its been a warm winter so far - 60's / 40's F . Looking forward to cooler weather and rain.
Hey that's a great link!!!!! thanks for posting it
could you add it to your sig?
-
I rather enjoyed the forecast,it looks reasonably hopeful for me here as far as at least one good snow event however I also felt there was a veil of vagueness as far as later on in the week when the front hits on thursday, will that be a snow event or not in the East?
-
I thought all of the pics were fantastic however particularly liked no's 3 and 5
-
It's snowing here now after a brief spell of sleet
-
