  1. Max tidal flooding alert for Barmouth tomorrow, and lesser warnings for pretty much complete coast of Wales- http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/floods/142151.aspx Huge seas- Extremely low pressure- On-shore gales- http://www.xcweather.co.uk/ Wonder if the swell on the Pembroke (Turbot Bank) Bouy will top the 30ft it reached in the big autumn storm? Take care.
  2. Looking forward to the 27th... I know Magic Seaweed like their dramatic graphics, but I've gotta say I think that's the biggest swell forecast in to the SW approaches I've ever seen- that would bring absolutely colossal waves to the coastline around here. The November storm topped out at about 30ft on the Pembroke Buoy (biggest I've seen); this would likely top that, if the forecast stays the same...
  3. Exceptionally windy in S.Pembs this afternoon- a 1 in 5 years event?- roads closed due to fallen trees/unsafe scaffolding/ general wind blown debris etc... Huge seas, biggest I've seen for a few years- 29.5ft swell recorded on the Pembroke Buoy- Manorbier 12/15ft+ surf and breaking on the outer reef at high tide. Anybody see Freshwater West this afternoon? Guess it must have been pretty spectacular there... My fence stayed up! Result.
  4. Still fantastic late season winter walking/climbing/skiing opportunities in Snowdonia, yesterday. Snow laying right down to a couple of hundred metres asl. Incredible to think most of it fell 9/10 days ago!
  5. Well what d'y'know! Even a few snow flakes blowing around in the wind in Tenby! Crazy cold spell... just wish it had started 6 weeks earlier, for some real extremes (for this location, anyway). I appreciate it has been extreme, late March or not, elsewhere. Next winter, I'll be hoping for a stratospheric warming event in Oct/Nov and the peak cold synoptics to arrive a few weeks earlier than this winter.
  6. One of the worst days of the 'winter' so far here- persistent heavy rain, squally E/SE wind and feeling really, really raw, though it got up 5c on the car thermometer. And it's been going for pretty much 24hrs now... Looks like the snowline will gradually shift south through the night. Good luck to all in North and Mid Wales- enjoy your snow!
  7. Hail and rain here this morning. Nice little dangler set-up on the radar.
  8. Spitting and spotting a wintry mix in Tenby... sky looking very heavy to the south of here... Jeez, if only we'd had the synoptics of the last three weeks or so in the heart of the winter!
  9. Snowed where I was in the Carneddau range for 6hrs, or so, yesterday evening but only managed to put down a couple of inches at just over 500m asl. By the time it got below freezing, the snow had nearly finished. Still, very atmospheric this morning- Looked to be better depth upwards of 750m asl, where the new stuff had settled straight onto the older patches. Maybe another shot mid-week for some snow, but atm looks too warm, to me, to be anything other than transient and confined to altitude...
  10. Both the 18z GFS and NAE seem to have a more favorable tilt on the low, a little more west/east, pulling the colder air in across central eastern Wales hence better chance for snow in these areas.
  11. I think there's a lot of sensible, realistic posts being made, myself. Probably going to be a less snowy 'event' than looked possible a couple of days ago, but it's another complex situation so there may yet be a few pleasant surprises for some...
  12. Yes- focus for snow seems to be further south- From the NAE forecast, there's not actually that much precipitation across Wales, away from the far SW. If this happens will the low be too far west/south for significant snow across much of Wales?
  13. Wintry mix of rain, sleet, snow and hail in Pembroke this morning. Partial slushy covering of hail for about 2mins! To my eye GFS has been pretty consistent in turning the rain quite quickly to snow on Sunday afternoon/evening across large parts of Wales, as the cold air is dragged in from the east as the circulation closes and the break away low clears away to the southeast. What's the thoughts on the likelihood of this actually happening?
  14. Brief but heavy hail/rain shower here atm. Strong gusty winds. Squall line off west coast in-coming. Looks like a wild old night ahead...
  15. Just got back in from the game myself- great performance from the Swans. Nuts getting there though- 2 and a half hours for journey that normally takes an hour... Ended up avoiding crashed lorries, fallen trees and abandoned vehicles near Red Roses by plowing through the side roads above Pendine- solid 6" there, and the heaviest snow I've seen falling in West Wales for years. Just goes to show even the professionals don't get it right all the time.
  16. You've been snow dancing again, haven't you?
  17. I'm heading off in half an hour or so- info any traffic problems between Tenby and Swansea would be much appreciated- seriously! We've had a bit of snow here today, but east of here looks to have taken a beating. Are conditions in Swansea football match cancelling bad?
  18. Agreed- it's made very little westwards progress in last 30mins or so. May have a spurt in a bit, may not...
  19. Yep- seen heavy and settling snow on the way back from Carmarthen early afternoon and a sleety mix at the house- so very happy! Can't complain about our location, I guess- just have to think about all those summer days on the beach! (in the drizzle!)
  20. The main band of precipitation stretches from Deven to Kent (snow likely to be much more widespread across southern England than forecast) and is still making good progress NW'wards. Is that likely to continue, or will it get pulled away to the SW by the low? EDIT: it looks like there's narrow bands of showers forming in front of the main band that look likely to hit here, anyway.
  21. You're probably right, but I'm not sure the professionals have entirely got a handle on this one...
