  1. Fair enough, jealous you've seen so much. Enjoy it! -_-
  2. Wow, how can you tell the difference between the sleet and the snow/rain! lol
  3. Fields just above Stroud 6-8 inches, in town its thawing and settling at the same time! Is itsupposed to get colder from the North through the day - I seem to remember this was on the cards? If it dropped a little and carried on snowing the depths in the town wold be impressive let alone the commons around here!
  4. Well thaw continues slowly, can count the flakes falling here as there are so few! Enjoy, those with the blizzards, and be safe.
  5. Gentle wet snow in Stroud now for an hour, all roads and pavements wet, any lying snow left is under threat of melting! Is it coming or not!
  6. Nice photos, welcome to the madhouse. Oh, your name made me smile for the first time since the snow started thawing! Keeping an eye on later, temps set to drop as cold sinks from north, snow risk charts are more snow for here, and the precip chart shows a band of wet over northern France coming to the South as predicted but seems more to the west than forecasts suggest to me..
  7. Precipitation appears to running out in the South where it's coming from. What happens later does anyone have a good idea? There's talk of last nights system coming back south but precip charts aren't really showing this?
  8. Moderate to really quite heavy in bursts. I'm in the least snowy lower part of town and it'll all be white very soon - the commons must be interesting by now as were already covered at sundown...Damn run out of ale.
  9. You joking, it's Stroud! Not the most normal town... Looking at the precip charts looks like a dry period coming then a chance of more following - still good at mo. Live on town end of Slad Rd, you near?
  10. Although not blizzard, heaviest snow I've seen in Stroud area this winter so far at mo, everything going steadily white that isn't already. Please no rain! How's the cold air from the north progressing this way, anyone know??
  11. Moderate snow in Stroud for 10 mins now, starting to settle in places...
  12. Was the precip predicted to be rain when it first made landfall? Could be promising if so...
  13. The precip charts show much more coming up from France, whether it'll be rain or snow who knows! It appears if it holds its intensity it will be in bands. Here's hoping..
  14. Just been on dog walk, all the hills around Stroud still nice and white, also shaded bits lower down - feels proper cold too! IF the milder air comes would it arrive with snow/rain or a period of time after? This feels important as I don't want to get carried away if it starts snowing only to have rain an hour or 2 later! Watching the precip charts avidly, also checking out xcweather website as it seems good for dew points/temps. Got some strong ales soon to be opened, good luck all...
  15. First 20 years of my life in Gloucester, remember how agonising snow forecast was a kid! All the real snow seemed to fall on the surrounding hills - best memories are from early 80's. I now live near centre of Stroud, which seems to generate its own warm micro-climate probable due to amount of buildings in small valley, however am in walking distance of higher hills! I work mostly outside and to be honest it has felt like snow for about 3 days now - can't back that up with any science, just a feeling even though it has been a little too warm. Can't wait for tomorrow evening onwards, am like the 8 year old in Glos again! Hope we all get some, more than 3 inches would seem a bit more like real snow for once... Good luck!
  16. I remember this one very well also! Weather had been, well, average all day. Came home from work at 5pm and decided to take the dogs for a walk round the park next to where I live. I'm near the centre of Stroud, in the valley so to speak, so can't see any great distance from the park. Half way round I thought I could see very dense fog appearing over the houses in the distance, but then realised the fog was moving extremely fast towards me. Thats when a simultaneous pink flash of lightening and deafening thunderclap happened. Straight away the snow arrived, and it was certainly the heaviest snow I'd ever seen. It took perhaps 2 or 3 minutes to get home, by which time both my dogs had 2 inches of snow on their backs! Rush hour was 'interesting' from my window - all the roads here are steep, and a lot of people just got out of the car and left it! Not sure where they went mind.... One thing that amazes me is how similar people's stories are from such a wide area of the country, right down to the lightening. Lets hope we've some to come.. Oh, trying to find out more about this event at the time allowed me to discover Netweather and the fact that other people over 30 watch the lamppost if snow is forecast - feel better for that.
  17. Light and occassionaly moderate snow in Stroud for about 45 mins now - mix of icy grains and larger flakes. Really not much fallen, but nothing's melting away from gritted roads! Lets see if it'll last more than the usual hour...
  18. Few small flakes falling now, blink and your miss it though. Perhaps better with dark and a lamp post! Still, proper winter here again with strong frost as well.
  19. I predict we won't know anthing until 12 hours before it happens, and even then we may be wrong. Smiley added as only joking!! Intonation lost on screen sometimes. Am looking forward to last minute exciting snow potentials. Where's the warm of summer now? Maybe a cold, frosty and occassionally snowy one is on the way! (Winter that is, not the rest of summer...)
  20. VERY rapid thaw of 2 cms that fell between 5 and 7. Cold, with glorious sun now! Maybe some more later? Glad for those with several centimeters, get out in it before the sun arrives!
  21. Just been woken by what was heavy hail, now moderate, occassionaly heavy snow. Starting to settle on cars and roofs. My dog's scared like he is during a thunder storm! Very distracting.....
  22. I mostly agree with this statement, however I'd like to give an alternative view. A relative of mine has a PHD in engineering, and will take 30 mins to hang a picture 'correctly'. I take 5 with only GCSE's. The pictures in his house are always wonky, mine aren't!! Sure the expert will have more knowledge, more info, and MOSTLY better results and conclusions, however in a very chaotic world of weather and climate the layman may be right with his 'opinion' or 'feeling', rather than his common sense, for perhaps one of two reasons. First by chance - anyone could be right if the outcome is a bit unclear! And secondly he may not be blinded, guided or overly focused by numbers, charts, statistics and equations. His feeling may be right simple by being outside a lot, experiencing the climate! A non-scientific view, and not one I completely hang on to as I trust a lot in the world of science - just offering another possibility. Sometimes science really is yesterday's magic. A spark of 'intuition' from a non-scientific mind can change everything, I really trust in that too. Anyway its going to snow on Sunday. Lets hope we have a hot one after!
