  1. Just watched the BBC weather update and they're predicting significant snow for Friday, however if I check the forecast online and at the Met Office it doesn't show a great deal at all. At what point this far out do they upgrade their forecasts?
  2. Wow, getting a bit excited now. Looking good for Friday into the weekend hopefully!
  3. Yep rain washed it all away as quickly as it arrived, although we had a good hour of solid snow last night I didn't expect so no complaint from me. What are the regions chances of more snow over the next few days? Next weekend looks promising but at this range anything could happen.
  4. Just a quick question, looking at the runs for tomorrow morning has it all shifted west or am I reading this incorrectly?
  5. No real snow though, a mixture of sleet and the tiniest snowflakes you could imagine!
  6. Any chance of it stalling over our region tonight?
  7. I think later this afternoon and into this evening isn't looking bad for much of the region looking for some snow. Tomorrow's looking like a disappointment. However I'd just be delighted to see any snow, must have been more than 12 months since the last time I saw it!
  8. She really can't cope with cold weather at all, I'm surprised she isn't in complete denial and insisting that the temperatures are in the 11-15 degrees range over the next couple of days, in fact she'd go as far as describing it as 'balmy' weather.
  9. Thanks for this, I'm signing up. As someone who has only really started following and trying to understand the models for the last 12 months or so, it's fascinating to see at what stage the MetO and other professional meteorological services actually make a call with the forecast. Snow appears to be one of the most difficult to predict accurately, the met office seem to be saying at the moment it's anyone's guess and looking at the models which seem to be all over the place with any convergence appearing to be over a very short time frame I can understand why.
  10. Surely you can't be mad enough to go with the Met Office, what do they know? They clearly don't have any kind of track record on the matter.
  11. Yes there is a bit of a south, south-east, east bias on there but given that the majority of members will be from those areas it's understandable. Still the fact that we can even discuss 'cold' and 'snow' is a big step forward this winter.
  12. Yep like most winters I can see every other region getting snow. It's a really poor region for snow, oh for something off the irish sea. In all fairness I've been following the forecasting thread and it doesn't look half as promising to me as some seem to think, just looks like a typically winter setup to me. I guess after such a mild spell anything is welcome.
  13. I'm nearly south Manchester here in Altrincham, doesn't remote feel like its about to snow, a heavy fine drizzle, feels like the temperature has risen within the last couple of hours as well.
  14. Yep freezing rain here in Altrincham, pretty awful, gusty too, afternoon started off quite promising with a small amount of snow, grapul then freezing rain mixed with rain. Very disappointing but not unexpected! We're thinking of moving down south this year, weather in the NW is the one thing as a snow lover I won't miss. I lived in London for several years and hardly saw any snow, since leaving they've had at least one decent snow event each winter!
  15. It's certainly a concern. As a snow lover myself I'd really like at least a week or two of pretty consistent cold weather. The way the media react to even a very short term cold event such as last last Friday is very telling. I'm sure years ago even allowing for the dramatically increased size of the media it wouldn't have registered beyond the weather report. The question is are we just seeing a localised pattern or is this part of a much longer term pattern caused by global warming? Will genuinely cold winters become an extremely rare event? Having said all that I can't complain about bright, sunny, spring like days. It is very pleasant. It's the dull repetitive, mild with drizzle days which now seems to form the bulk of winter. I live nearby in Altrincham and that really is very telling and depressing!
