  1. Actually I thought next week is looking pretty promising looking at the charts today?
  2. This is just great, still going, completely unexpected. I thought a few flakes would be nice either side of heavy rain. I'm struggling to follow the radar as it seems to show that it shouldn't be snowing now?
  3. Seems to be 'peak snow' here now, really big flakes and much drier. It's definitely pepped up again, after more moderate snow with smaller flakes. Been snowing for nearly two hours now without stopping. How long will this continue?
  4. Nice big flakes and sticking. Thought it might have trouble given the heavy rain but it's a covering already.
  5. Just turning here near Northwich, it's gone from heavy rain to mixed with large snow flakes to pretty much heavy snow now. All happened in about 10 minutes.
  6. It's looking good and for our region as well this evening. Don't want to jinx it now.
  7. My favourite time of year, late summer through autumn. The light and colours are wonderful. It's turning out to be a decent if not outstanding summer so I'm going for a warm start before Atlantic storms land through late October and November. Turning much colder through November as El Nino strikes bringing cold and heavy snow. Alternately, August gives way to six months of mild and very wet weather as the Atlantic conveyor belt gets into gear.
  8. I'd be happy with just a decent single snowfall frankly, this has been a dreadful winter. Roll on summer, ah hold on, probably best off being careful for what I wish for!
  9. As someone who is a complete novice and is trying to fathom the models, the ECM does seem to be very FI, is this always the case? Should we place greater emphasis on different models at different times of year? I know that we're barely half way through winter but given that there appears to be little raise our hopes through the remainder of Jan this winter is beginning to look like a real disappointment. Moan over!
  10. I assume Sky have got their wires crossed or they're reporting on an absolute and unlikely worst case assessment? At what point would the met office upgrade their warnings?
  11. According to Sky News it's from a briefing between the home office, airlines, airports and met office.
  12. They're repeating it at the moment, 30 knots initially at 6am building to 55 knots and upto 80 knots lasting 3 hours long than expected.
  13. Well that's me out, I was on the 7.08am to London Euston, time for a lie in! Sky have just repeated winds up to 90mph lasting beyond 12pm tomorrow and that the storm will be 'very serious'.
  14. Definitely, my flippancy has stopped, even with my limited understanding I think this has the potential to be rather nasty in a few hours time.
  15. Don't think we were ever due to get the worst of the storm, it's still looking like it might be an unplesant trip to work in the morning with some heavy rain around.
  16. It's less about the metO doing anything wrong but rather the media building up what looks like a typical autumn storm into something akin to a cat 5 hurricane. People need to be warned in advance and take sensible measures particularly with their rush hour journeys tomorrow but if we follow the media we should all be digging bunkers in our gardens at the moment. I'm just out of the firing line but will undoubtedly receive a typical dumping of the wet stuff.
  17. I could just do with a '99', just as long as it's a proper Mr Whippy!
  18. Yep same here, very small flakes but falling fairly moderately!
  19. So anything more today or is that it for this event?
  20. A very light dusting here which seems to consist of snizzle and sleet rather than much snow. There's quite a bit of snow grain floating around in the breeze. The Manchester snow shadow seems to have done it's job for much of south Manchester and the surrounding parts of Cheshire. I've been out to Wilmslow this morning and it's a similar story.
  21. Delighted many have seen a decent amount of snow, sadly a non-event so far here. Hoping that something might develop overnight but not looking likely now.
  22. And Altrincham.... The boundary that snow cannot cross. Tis the devils work...
  23. Cheer up, it's a step forward from just overcast and drizzle!
  24. I'm clinging to the meto, who have now updated my location to show heavy snow from 9pm, first time during the whole event it's shown anything other than sleet or overcast! Any chance of a major pivot here?
