  1. -3'C here and that's the snow arrived as forecast. Only light at the moment but forecast to be heavy for a couple hours between 11PM-1AM. All really pilling up with big icicles on the roofs!
  2. -7 this morning, cold but nothing too exceptional. Quite a lot of light snow and cloud cover through the night so temps only really fell away at around 5 to 6am. Loads of big icicles now though, always the sign of a decent spell!
  3. And it gets much better than this at times! Less so these days perhaps, but exceptional spells come now and then yet
  4. We've had light snow on and off for a couple hours but of the very small almost glass like variety - made everything very sparkly! Looking at the radar a couple more hefty showers looking on track for here later on Oh and it's Baltic.
  5. Heavy snow here again. Beginning to pile up a fair bit now. Will post some snaps later.
  6. Good covering of the old sneachd here with the temp at -1.3'C and more snow incoming. Night all!
  7. We had about a foot of snow 10 minutes ago but it's all gone now. Phone was charging at the time.
  8. So far as five day forecasts from the Beeb go, this is none too shabby!! That's sea level Inverness, higher parts look even more fun!
  9. Snow not forecast to evening - we're all undergoing a horrid freezing damp transition at the moment! Sleet here at 2.6'C
  10. Temp heading south and now down to 3.1 (1.8 at home) - sky to the north is pitch black.
  11. Blustery here in Inverness but nothing to write home about really - it is feeling frigid out there though. Currently 5'C
  12. Ive got a fair bit of altitude so expecting snow early evening Thursday. Think even sea level parts of the city as forecast heavy snow from around 7/8pm. We tend to do well from NWrlys and Northerlies. Fingers crossed and wish us luck!
  13. I'd say you'll be seeing snow by mid afternoon. Won't be lying at first of course but the mercury will only be going one way. You're in for a wintry blustery day tomorrow! Enjoy man
  14. Was referring to location forecast on the websites. Seems to be slight divergence between the two for Inverness - might be due to the two forecasts use a different precise geographic spot for 'Inverness' for the forecast? Quite a lot of difference within the city between say Clachnaharry and Balvonie or Leachkin in terms of altitude, distance from sea etc. Thanks for sharing all that though, always interested to hear more about the nature of the beast that is professional meteorology / public forecasting!
  15. Interesting, thanks! Are the forecasts automated do you know, or are they edited some by staff? Interesting to see the divergence between the two given that they work off the same data (and probably only noticed by the likes of myself who is a bit of a weather enthusiast and has been checked the two frequently over the last 48 hours)!
  16. Just occurred to me when looking at some of the upper air charts - are we not in polar low territory from tomorrow night for a couple days? They're rare, of course, but you never know.
  17. New dawn, new day. Met have moved towards STV in their forecast.
  18. STV going for snowier conditions than Auntie. Wonder who'll be closer?
  19. Met office warning for Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Moray, Angus, Falkirk, Perth and Kinross, Stirling, Argyll and Bute, East Ayrshire, East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Glasgow, Inverclyde, North Ayrshire, North Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, South Ayrshire, South Lanarkshire, West Dunbartonshire, Dumfries and Galloway, Na h-Eileanan Siar and Highland, Snow showers are expected to become increasingly frequent over northern Scotland late on Thursday and are expected across many other parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and western England on Friday. 2-5 cm of snow is likely for some, with 10-20 cm possible over high ground, mainly Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales
  20. Met and BBC being very vague re snow on Thursday night / Friday. This from the chief forecaster though: Snow showers will turn increasingly frequent and heavy across northern Scotland during the evening Which sounds a wee bit more significant than what's currently being shown on the website? Probably a case of nowcasting, as ever!
  21. Run of the century! Country on its knees! 1962 / 1978 / 1987 / 1995 / 2003 / 2009 / 2010!!!! (delete as applicable) Vortex in shreds! Eyes down for 18hz run! Egg on face! Zonal Atlantic conveyor belt! Pattern locked in! Trends! Shortwaves! Muir Sausage. Right now that's done let's get on with enjoying winter
