  1. Well I'm awake with the rest of you currently here, but not because of lightning. Oppressive warmth tonight!
  2. Hit 28.4°C here today, roasty toasty! Currently 27°C
  3. Too mainstream, the cool kids go for Dalwhinnie! I think the snowiest and coldest is probably Tomatin - also means you're only 15 minutes from Inverness so you can still get your stuffed vine leaves / merlot when times are tough. It's also above 300m asl.
  4. It keeps being modeled for early next week between Tuesday and Wednesday, wouldn't normally mention but it keeps showing up on every GFS run.
  5. Is no one else not really a bit concerned by this sort of sustained rain continuously being forecast Scotland, Northern Ireland and parts of England? Looks potentially dangerous to life
  6. Unbelievably heavy rain for Skye and Lochalsh on this run - torrential rain for 24 hours solid!
  7. I'd put my money on Aviemore beating the record if it was to come to that - could even be here in Inverness if the wind stays southerly throughout! Lovely day here with a max of 21'C and feeling quite humid. Big shower about an hour ago though.
  8. The exact airflow and where any rainfall ends up will be determined in the coming days but bear in mind that high 20s / low 30s is just a few degrees off the Scottish record, so would be the equivalent of 35'C etc showing for the south east.
  9. Saw the angriest, darkest, most fierce looking cloud I've ever seen in my life earlier just miss Inverness and head north, turns out it hit the Dingwall area. The way it was moving I actually thought it was going to form a twister.
  10. I think temperatures would be pretty constant throughout the country with high pressure dominating to the north and a south easterly breeze? Low 20s pretty widely?
  11. Some very heavy rain passed through Inverness an hour or so ago. Seems to be some lightning activity moving up the Great Glen now, hopefully the lochs can give it a wee boost!
  12. Temperature in Lossiemouth just rocketed with a change of wind direction, not sure if that's en error or not as I'd be amazed if the temperature went from 16'C to 27'C in a few hours with a change in wind direction!
  13. I can see low lying mist over parts of the coast but here and down in the city centre it's clear with blue skies - hovering around 21'C / 22'C. Wind direction looks set to change to a more southerly trajectory in the next few hours so maybe a nice evening to come?
  14. Scotland joining in the fun on the 18hz run - high 20s in the Highlands & Islands and North East Scotland at midnight is pretty unheard of!
  15. Pretty much relentlessly pleasant to really fairly warm weather here for the past week now. 18'C currently.
  16. Second post of the winter (which is pretty telling) - glad to see the endless murk and gloom is likely to end in the next 7 days. I think this thread is going to get a wee bit busier over the next few weeks!
  17. GFS 6hz run looks a bit 2009 in the sense that the milder interludes are less pronounced the further north you go - during that spell there was continuous snow for most of Scotland from 18th December until 11th January. It's a risky game but these 'milder' interludes are what's often required for significant snowfall as the Atlantic moisture hits a cold continental air flow. The 6hz is likely a variation on the theme (that is, cold and generally blocked) so I wouldn't lose to much sleep over one run.
  18. I think Catacol is referring to the initial (record breaking?) Greenland High in November 2010 which, if my memory serves me right, was actually forecast about 240 hours out or so before materialising. Again, if my memory serves me right, this was actually linked to warming in the Stratosphere at the time by one of the members on here when our understanding of Stratospheric led cold spells was still in its relative infancy. The high was relatively short lived in comparison to what is currently touted for the coming months and the second phase of cold weather came via a Scandinavian High (once again, if my memory serves me right) after a 5/7 day "mild" interlude. Anything near to that winter which produced 40cm of level snow here with 7ft icicles wouldn't go amiss! Back to the here and now, the ensembles continue to show great potential up here in Scotland
  19. Ensembles beginning to look particularly interesting for Scotland after a very poor winter so far despite promising cold early doors. Liking those snow probabilities
  20. I suppose the time has come to emerge from my summer hibernation. Hello all!
  21. My complete absence for some time is due to one thing: lovely sunny weather and laterally, hot weather!
  22. What is it with people and bread? Tell some one they can't have any pasta or rice for a month and they'd probably shrug it off but mention the possibility of a day without a sandwich or toast and they go spare.
