  1. Look interesting on Friday night / Saturday according to the GFS precipitation charts for Aberdeenshire, Morayshire and the Highlands.
  2. Temperatures in the north are really beginning to drop as the colder air digs in! Picture: Ahhh, miss Inverness
  3. I do agree that this thread should be pinned. There are so few of us compared to posters from the rest of the UK, yet Scotland quite often has some very interesting weather on offer which I'm sure we'd all like to discuss. During the Hogmanay cold spell, I commented on the freezing cold night time minima and day time maxima in the Highlands of Scotland (-13'C in Aviemore, -12'C in Inverness etc -5'C one day in Inverness), but yet I wasn't really able to discuss this with too many folk at all. That hoar frost seen around the Moray Firth was brilliant and I would have liked to discuss it a bit more with fellow North Easterners. Also, we can get our Scottish craic without confusing too many people!
  4. Looking quite beautiful in Inverness this morning by the looks of the webcam. Can't wait to get rid of the grey monstrosity of the 60s beside the castle...
  5. I'm currently on the phone to my dad in Inverness and it's apparently quite crazy up there... I know I feel your pain, 3 of them, nightmare! However, Thursday and Friday off = fuuuun Thursday nights! Bless my little cotton socks, parts of Moray Firth just got hit by close to downpour strength precipitation, accompanied blizzard-strength winds and cold temperatures, that must have been quite a sight.
  6. Is it not Bear Scotland who are in charge still? If it still is, then I have to say they are absolutely awful at times. Inverness has been quite fortunate in that it has not seen a major snow event (I'm talking massive snowfall) in about 20 years, the 80s, 70s and 60s saw dInverness cut off from the rest of the UK for over a week at times, with very considerable snow drifts.
  7. The Highlands especially gets ignored, but I guess that Met Office seem to assume that because we're used to it then as severe a warning is not needed. There was no mass panic during the start of March 2006 when we saw very heavy snowfall, same goes for late January 2003.
  8. The northerlies should start around Thursday and there is a much higher chance for snowfall in the Highlands, Islands and Aberdeenshire.
  9. Sean is a bit of a legend, nothing wrong with him being a little bit camp, he seems to be good craic! Highlands and Aberdeenshire are looking good towards the end of the week, glad to be heading home for the ma's birthday
  10. Well that's brilliant! If Michael Fish says it wont snow, it definitely will.
  11. Glasgow-guy, I'm in Glasgow's West End and there has been heavy snow which has settled, when the front moves in, there is the potential for us to do quite well.
  12. More likely to see our share of the snow from the potentially NErly to be honest, some deep cold air coming from the north, would feel freezing in it. ECM is suggesting some colder upper air temps moving in, with great thicknesses too.
  13. December saw frost in Inverness last for over a week, with very cold day-time maxima on some occasions. It certainly has been a very frosty and cold winter so far, but it could have been even colder if there was snow on the ground.
  14. Well, ...I.... ...wow. If this was to be verified, we could certainly be on to something quite major.
  15. Well the Met Office certainly got it wrong for the Highlands minimum night-time temperature tonight (-1'C), with -7'C at Loch Glascarnoch and -6'C in Inverness.
  16. Quite disappointed. Decided not to head home to Inverness this weekend due to the storm, and have just found out on the phone that there is currently about 2 inches of snow in Inverness, temperature at 0'C with cloud cover.
  17. Hey stay on topic! - wouldn't quite call it spades.
  18. As mentioned by two members above, heavy snow in Glasgow.
  19. Mean Max was approximately -4'C for about 5 days here, with minimum temperatures around -11'C. Probably the coldest 5 days in Inverness in quite a while. In saying that, only about a year ago, 15th - 23rd of Dec 07 or thereabouts was very cold also.
  20. What are you basing this on other than a comparison to 1982? Considerable stratospheric warming is projected, which will make a raging atlantic quite unlikely.
  21. I can't imagine there will be much left in the UK even up at higher levels after tonight. Some fresh snow for the Scottish mountains early next week though, potential to get quite a dumping in the Highlands.
  22. There have only been a few times in my life that I would describe the snow as being blizzard like. It's a horrible kind of snow to be in though, with strong northerly winds making it feel absolutely freezing in terms of windchill, and heavy snow only adding to it.
  23. Well it was all fine and settled here until about an hour ago. Gusting into the low 50s now.
