  1. CatchMyDrift - aye! It's a huge in comparison to the moon! Mondy - Cheers for that, very nice looking feature, very much adding to the rarity of this spell
  2. -15.4'C in the garden! Could our Invernessian friend a bit further up in Milton of Leyes tell me what's happening cloud wise? There's not a breath of wind here and a huge bright white ring around the moon, it's warmer down at the coast with a positively roasting -11'C.
  3. Very true, just wait until that strong NE wind starts pushing over the warm North Sea - heavy snow!
  4. Aye I can imagine! I had meant for the UK city originally, had forgotten about Glasgow's 1995 cracker! Oh and guess who is going skiing in the Cairngorms for two days from the 2nd!!
  5. I meant for the Inverness area with the -17'C. -19.9'C to beat for Glasgow, which I can't see happening, but certainly could happen at the start of the new year! Aye, we could get below -30'C in the Highlands if FI pans out as forecast!
  6. -14'C in the back garden! There's very deep cold in the Moray Firth at the moment, -12'C and -11'C in Lossiemouth and Kinloss. If we're lucky, we could see the lowest temperature record for any city in the UK in Inverness tonight, fingers crossed! We need a lot of luck!
  7. Looking at many of these charts in early FI, which offer a few clear nights under very cold 850hPa, the Scottish Highlands could at a push record a sub -30'C. Some impressive cold out being suggested for the new decade, but in the reliable timeframe it looks as though the UK is more or less definitely going to continue to see cold temperatures until the start of the 2010 at least.
  8. Just had heavy snow in Inverness for about 20 minutes, which dropped some tiny sheets of very sparkly ice - everything is glittering like mad! -5'C at the moment, very cold for snowfall. Looking at the radar and we could get some very heavy snow in about 20 minutes, here's hoping
  9. I'm liking how much further north the low pressure is on this run, really gives Scotland and especially the southern Highlands a battering
  10. The winter scenery, looking over Craig Phadraig in Inverness today towards the Fannich sgurrs.
  11. Currently -10.5'C in the back garden, -13'C to -15'C might be possible by the morning? A cold one.
  12. Weather station at the airport is reporting 'ice crystals' - sounds very festive. Freezing fog / light freezing drizzle??
  13. Nollaig chridheil agus Bliadhna mhath ùr!!! Merry Christmas and a happy new year!!
  14. I'm going to be honest, the lack of forecasts even from the BBC for the Highlands is beginning to slightly get to me. Just watching the most recent BBC forecast and they don't even both mentioning north of Glasgow <_<
  15. This is a strange one for the Highlands...warning for just widespread ice on the roads but also: "The snow giving further falls of several centimetres in places." Is this perhaps the most creative way of warning for heavy snow but trying to save their own skins?
  16. -12 in Inverness, but -13'c through at Loch Glascarnoch - could definitely see -15'C tonight if lucky.
  17. We want to miss it, let the river Ness do it's freezing fog magic and keep is in proper deep cold (without snowcover freezing fog causes lows of -12'C in Sneck) until the main bands of precipitation arrive!
  18. Temperatures falling away across Lochaber and Wester Ross, -11'C at Loch Glascarnoch and -10'C at Tulloch Bridge! -8'C in my back garden, coldest night of the winter so far to come I think!
  19. There's atleast six or seven events since the turn of the century which beat the Inverness snow (we've had about 7 inches in total, up to two feet on the surrounding hillside communities), and in terms of cold, it seems Inverness gets atleast an annual week of anticyclonic freezing cold temperatures. The snow certainly does not been late January, early February of 2003, when in the city centre a foot of snow was recorded and temperatures dipped very low. However, we have the chance of some very low minimum night time temperatures to come, temperature plummeting away here currently
  20. I think the snow is just about to hit Skifreak...a band of heavy snow just pushing down the moray Firth (and intensifying), currently passing Avoch and Fortrose!
