  1. Well, it says Bucks so here I am - feel a bit of a fraud given the amount of snow we got on Tuesday/Wednesday though - not really in no-mans land! Hi everyone though
  2. I don't really know where South Bucks is either - it's such a long county - we are nearer Berkshire than Milton Keynes! I don't feel like I'm part of the potential EA thread although near Herts, but also not in the same category as Kent! Help!
  3. Light snow shower has just hit High Wycombe - our first since Wednesday morning! So pretty
  4. A few pics I've just taken in and around the garden. The ruler is difficult to see but it is almost 9 inches in the middle of the lawn. Had about another 3 inches this morning. Still snowing lightly - doesn't seem to have stopped since it started at 6pm last night. Hope you all get a good dumping soon (those of you who haven't had one yet)
  5. I definitely don't have the predicted 30cms in High Wycombe. I just measured in the middle of the lawn and we have a respectable 15cms/6 inches. Most of it fell between 6pm and midnight - and although everytime I looked out of the window for the rest of the night it was still snowing, it must have been very light as there was not much more accumulation. Snowing quite heavily here again but with smallish flakes. Edited to add that I live at the bottom of the hills in High Wycombe - they may have 30cms higher up!
  6. Wow - what a first post - you know how to make yourself popular! I'll have you know that not all school run mums are like that! Anyway - steady snowfall since about 6pm here in High Wycombe. We have about 5 inches - maybe more and still going. Luckily for Dan my daughter's school has already said her school is closed on the Bucks County Council website. Lucky for me too as I've already had a bottle of pink fizz
  7. The lightest of dustings in High Wycombe - you can see the individual flakes on top of the frost! Hoping for a bit more tonight
  8. Well, despite a MetO severe weather warning here and being on higher ground we have had rain, rain, rain today. It's even worse when there was a slight chance of something happening... However - we did well out of the pre-Christmas snow and we even have a bit of icy snow left about the place so I can't complain - well I can but it would be rather unreasonable...
  9. MetO have updated warnings for tomorrow and Wednesday to include Bucks, Milton Keynes and Oxfordshire http://www.metoffice.com/weather/uk/se/se_forecast_warnings.html
  10. Now it's horrible having the NW radar - seeing that rain heading inexorably towards us
  11. Thanks - that's exactly what I was thinking! I got really stuck in the little bit of "rain or sleet" forecast by the BBC on Monday morning. My family and I are going out this evening and I really don't want a 4 hour journey which should take 15 mins again!
  12. We still have plenty of lying snow - even in the trees. Is it really going to rain here today??
  13. I am currently at my parents' house having not been able to get home last night. I went to London with my parents, my husband, my daughter (6) and my son (3) to the theatre. Luckily my husband and son didn't come to the theatre with us and left London early and managed to get home before the snow started. However, my parents, my daughter and I were not so lucky. We managed to get to Beaconsfield station on the train and got in the car at 6.30. My parents were going to drop us home before going home themselves but the traffic on the A40 between Beaconsfield and Wycombe was at a standstill. It took us 3 and a half hours to get to my parents' house - normally a 15 minute drive. There was no point in trying to get to our house. Amazing snow - but a nightmare for us, especially with my daughter in the car too. Quite an adventure... I hope everyone else is safe.
  14. Obsession, affliction or addiction - definitely lunacy - love the fact that I'm not alone in it and that there are so many more knowledgeable people than me on here to enhance my understanding
  15. Evening everyone Had a couple of drinks this evening and just wanted to say that I'm so happy that there are other people in the world who are as obsessed - if not more - with snow than I am! Cheers
  16. We had some lovely big flakes for about an hour last night which added a couple of cms to our lying snow although it all seems to have compacted a bit. Not sure how long it will last in the sun but our back garden is north facing so I think it will hang around there for a while. My husband really doesn't get why I'm glued to my laptop all the time - definitely more excited about it than the kids. What is it about snow that's so addictive??
  17. Just went outside to feed the poor rabbits. Fox footprints all around the hutch Wouldn't normally see them of course! We have a fox alarm thing to scare them away but it was covered in snow! I measured 6 1/2 to 7 inches in the middle of the lawn. I wonder what it's like at the top of the Wycombe hills! Anyone know if there's more to come? Not that I'm greedy it's just that there are weather warnings all day! Also the sun is out now - just hoping it doesn't start a thaw...
  18. Some pics attached - not brilliant but you get the general idea! Edited to say sorry they came out massive! And again to say they've now closed my daughter's school - early Christmas holidays then! I think most of the schools in South Bucks must be closed.
  19. Wow - we've woken up to about 5 inches maybe 6 in High Wycombe and I'm not even on a hill! I haven't been outside to measure properly My daughter's school is not on the closed list but as they are finishing at lunchtime anyway I don't think I'll be struggling in!! Have fun today those who have snow, and those who haven't - you might still be lucky
  20. It definitely pleases me - I was beginning to feel a bit left out yesterday! Now I'm in the middle of all the action with a nice orange covering - hopefully it will turn out to be white though
  21. Sleety icy rain stuff here - not sure of the proper terminology LOL Definitely not snow though. Will just have to wait until tomorrow
  22. Hurrah - we have Weather Warnings!! http://www.metoffice...t_warnings.html Edited to add: Ooops sorry Lake Effect Snow - didn't see your post!
