Picked up some interesting "ice bobbles" on the tips (probably a better word for it) of my shoelaces this morning (Friday) from the frost while marching up and down to the targets at archery in 0C temps. Was like a heavy, dirty dual-hailstone, a microscale analogy to a very dirty comet. It's all a question of scale. We are here but once, so observed for pleasure.

Radar suggests Herne, Margate, Canterbury? Any TALES to tell?

Keep an eye on the short wave to the E of Greenland, it might be about to drop some genuine cold air towards us..
Very very good run this so far!
Astute observation, interesting how that might interact and "pull" on a few competing lows.

Im calling this now!!!im gona say gfs is wrong!!!sorry but for me ecm is the one to follow always has been!!the fact that the changes start as early as 96 hours west of greenland/newfoundland on ecm helps its cause aswell!!!we can give it one last go on the 12zs but ecm shall need a massive shift early on!!ukmo is a middle ground but i think its been a pathetic model over the last few years so dont really follow it lol except for amusement!!
We'll watch your call, sheikhy lol, Can't ever fault your enthusiasm.

Seen lightning from it too.

Just hitting me now. Coming down hard!
-
LOL - they seem surprised on the radio!

Looks like quite an intense squall line / trough about to hit Bristol. Get your washing in!
-
Some heavy stuff about to hit West Cornwall. Maybe a bit more widespread through Cornwall later.

Looks OK late August onwards - if ya can believe the models. Still getting pelted with rain in SE Wales. Good luck peeps
-
Saw a couple sferics in the channel and thought "nah". But , yeah, there's some activity kicking off
-
Not seeing any sferics on the radar but, yeah, looks like there's enough energy to produce some looking at the rain intensity.
Another big batch heading for Hastings.

Epic, crazy and incredible. Spawned from nothing to a beast in 5 min. Continuous thunder, large hail for a good 20min and weather station recorded 98.8mm of rain. That's not counting the hail that bounced out as it was full.
Never seen anything like it! Bit of a clean up job now. Water was coming through the front door and in the kitchen.
A lot of Stroud is in a bad state. This is my mates house. Really bad on horns road
Oh dear - what a mess. This is the downside of extreme weather events.

Holy crap I just heard 3 raindrops in Bris!

Hello. Can anybody explain this please? Me and my sister in law caught this flashing ball of light earlier. This was over towards Crewe and Nantwich way around 7pm during a distant thunderstorm. There were quite a few CGs from the storm. Just to add context there are no tall buildings over in that direction and the flashing lasted around 30 seconds. It looked brighter to the naked eye than what you see here...but what could it be? Have we caught ball lightning on camera??
Maybe a substation got hit and started off some short-outs?

Wasn't successful in getting any lightning pics a sec ago, as there just wasn't enough of the stuff! The 'Smidge' repellent I was using to repel the mozzies seemed to be working through, unless I'm going to discover bites later....
Great to at least be getting a good downpour out of this at the moment at the very least.
Those little buggers will get you when you sleep.....

Was just looking at that lol!

Looking good for a couple of weeks after Friday. Can't ask for much more than that in springtime April.

Ian Fergusson
@fergieweather
W COUNTRY WEDS: Broad trend to spread snow risk further north through today into afternoon/eve, i.e. more into #Gloucestershire/#Cotswolds & eastwards to Chilterns. Tricky balance southwards, as snow could pep-up later/eve for eg M4, S Glos, perhaps #Bristol (esp higher ground).
