Darker to my North than to my South. Gone quiet again, but raining heavily.
-
Just had a rumble here in North Croydon!

-
Quiet as a mouse in Emsworth, so heading to bed!
-
Away for a few days in Emsworth and seemingly missing all the fun in Croydon and too Far East for the excitement in Bournemouth
Family in Croydon tho saying it's pretty epic but has fallen quiet now.
-
Bit of rain around here but that's all we've had so far. Seems everything is happening to the east of us right now.
-
Still bright to the north of me, to the south on the other hand ...
-
Dark clouds forming to the south of me, still bright to the north. Still extremely hot!
-
Had a few rumblings around here for the last 30mins or so, sounded overhead (or very close at least) around 20mins ago, seems to have stopped a bit now.
-
Just been woken by a gust if wind so thought id pop in here and see how the storm is doing. Seems the 'worst' is yet to come but it's petty gusty already.

I'm travelling from Burnley to London via Manchester on Sunday. My train is currently due to leave at around 4.30pm. I know its all rather hopecasting right now as the low that might/might not bring snow hasn't even formed yet. But I would usually leave at around 3.20 to drive down to Manchester Pic, looking around at the charts do you think at the first signs of snow on Sunday I should just leave and get to Manchester, even if its like 11am?
Just I got caught in the last snow event 2 weeks ago, and that wasn't fun at all! I have work on Monday so need to be back in London at all costs!
-
Seems lighter outside (as in brightness), but that might be jusdt as there is more snow on the ground. Seems a little lighter but big flakes are still falling. Had a good 2 hours of this now. Its made a huge difference to the amount on the ground, I'd say a good 4-5cm now if not a little more in places.
-
Seems the intensity has died down but the flakes are larger, been pretty heavy for a good 90mins or so, looking at the radar it could go on like this for several more hours too.
-
Very heavy around here now for the last 45mins, roads that where gritted are now probably now got a covering. I'm away from a window now so I can only see the carpark which is just full of snow covered cars!
-
I'm going back to work, just as that darker colour band on the NW radar gets ever closer. I'm under the impression the school might be closing at 1.30 so I might only be there for an hour or so, still think they are risking this, looking at posts here if that darker area sits over us for an hour or so - which it could easily do with how slow its moving - our pretty small 2cm could become 5cm or so.
It's pretty heavy here now, larger flakes are falling, seems the radar is right on the ball.
-
Radar still shows the heavier stuff is on its way, hopefully within the next hour, temp has dropped to -0.6c since my last post, hope this is a good sign for the next few hours.
-
My snow depth estimate seems about right, I'd say 2cm or there abouts where its been left untouched, has that nice crunch-sound when you walk over it. Main roads are still clear, busier side roads are that horrible slushy stuff that will be a pain to drive tomorrow if they don't grit them and the lesser used roads are pretty much covered in snow. Got a tad heavier on the way back. Wind is a little biting tho, currently -0.2c according to my sensor.
-
Off home for lunch in 15mins so will see how deep it is under foot. It seems to be settling in the middle of the busier roads now, but on the whole the well used roads are clear, the lesser roads are still covered. The heavier snow seems to be creeping towards the M25 now. I guess might be around here in the next few hours - if it keeps its intensity of course.
-
Back to the light crispy snow here again, was heavy for a while 20mins or so ago for 10mins, radar does suggest the heavier band could clip us in an hour or so - seems to be pretty slow moving. Probably 1-2cm under foot, but hard to judge from my window as the grit and heat near the building is stopping the snow falling there.
-
WOW they taking a chance then, another 2hrs atleast, if your main routes are covered imagine in 2hrs when parents struggling to get there, crazy.
Sadly its happened before, was speaking to the deputy the other day, they took a similar decision, said parents can come at 1.30 and she didn't get home until gone 7, apparently the last child was picked up at 5.30 then obviously she struggled to get home too. Luckily I won't have to stay that long!
-
Been told the school I work at is sending messages out to parents at 11, that they can pick up their children after lunch from 1.30. Still pretty light snow here, but its falling fast. The roads of the main routes are covered.
-
Any ideas if this will get heavier? The radar shows a heavier band moving in this sort of direction, I mean looking now the less-used roads are starting to get a covering but its too light and the flakes are too small to stop it settling on busier roads.
-
Has got a tad lighter now, very fine snow, the pavements are covered, not too deep, its blowing around in the gusts. The road out my window still looks pretty clear so I assume the mainroads are ok at present too. Hopefully it will get a bit heavier and start settling a bit more?

Have you been talking to Yamkin again?!
Haha no, just reading comments here and the stuff the local press are putting on the websites, seems they are expecting a little more than what the BBC/MetO are saying. Unless I'm reading it wrong and getting too-excited. Anyway off to work now, lets hope I can get back!
-
Nothing here - yet but looking at the radar it's pretty close. Currently -0.8c hoping to get more than 5cm, looking around here the council at Croydon seem to expect more so *fingers crossed*

It's all a bit dark and thundery here in North Croydon. Like something we'd usually get after a hot summers day!
