  6. Hi Tm much as i expected i'll keep you updated on the track of the low but at 1,000 feet up you are in about the best position UNLESS sods law operates and the low moves ene!
  7. hello its dry here but cloudy with a temp of 8C; the dewpoint has dropped during the night and is now showing 3C
  8. hi to update on the progress of the cold air. as we've seen from Peter and Jailender the cold air has now got as far south as the Moray Firth and is making steady progress south, probably about 25 mph at the moment. North of the mainland Shetland, at 18z, had 290 28 gusting 48, ps04C nil weather and pressure rising 5.1mb Thorshaven was 35022 gusts 34, temp 1.2C with rain and snow shower, whilst way up north at Jan Meyen it was MS06(day Max Ms05C) in slight snow and a northerly wind.
  9. hello Peter I've not heard that weather syaing before and dare not ask if that is from first hand experience!!
  10. welcome Tommy, you will soon get used to this mob. All keen and very friendly, well most of the time. If you are a snow fanatic then this place is made for you. All sorts of things available on the main site also, just browse around. Oh, my hobby horse, please tell us in your avatar data where you are reporting from?
  11. so those in north Scotland should see a dramatic change before morning, if its not already occurring, strong northerly winds, maybe some snow if you are lucky, or at least soft hail showers.
  12. hi update on lerwick/sumburgh airport(which is about 20-30 miles south of Lerwick) the forecast is for the northerly to set in some time after 18Z this evening.
  13. hi update on Thorshaven weather at 1650GMT the cold air is in, northerly 28knots gusting 43 with temp down to zero and dewpoint Ms03C, pressure rising rapidly

  15. hi pse delete the first attachment, its the 2nd one for today you want, hope its okay now.
  16. hi again herewith the 12Z weather from Lerwick, Thorshaven and Jan Meyen Lerwick is just getting the beginnings of the low's effect. I'll try and attach the Bracknell analysis for 12Z also to show the current picture. Lerwick is just beginning to feel the effect of the low, 29032 gusts 43 with temp 6C in hail shower, pressure falling 4.3mb Thorshaven has 28017 gusts 46 with moderate rain shower, temp is 3.3C and pressure falling 1.2mb Up at Jan Meyen its Ms 06C with recent snow shower and a moderate northerly wind.
  17. morning Just had a short burst of rain but some sun between the clouds. The amazing thing is the temperature, 12.4C with a min of only 11.7C, talk about mild. Then on to that other place Thorshaven at 0600Z Temp is 1.1C in rain and snow and the barometer is falling 6.3millibars in the past 3 hours, wind is light ssw'ly, pressure is 997.9mb here comes the cold snap. will send the 12Z later Oh Janmeyen is only MS1C in a snow shoer this morning!
  18. Hi here its a barmy 12.8C and just stopped raining. whilst here, Jan Meyen; about 800 miles north of Scotland its Ms7C with visibility 500Metres in a heavy snow shower!! and here, at Thorshaven only 250 miles north of Scotland its raining with a temperature of 3.2C and a moderate ese'ly wind with the barometer falling 2.7mb in the past 3 hours. Why show these? Well Jan Meyen is in a direct line north-south for when the real arctic air hits the UK later on Thursday, Thorhaven is that much closer and is already showing a pressure fall ahead of the low which is the 'trigger' mechanism for our northerly, however long or short it may be. keep watching, Ill give you the 06Z tomorrow. ]
  19. Hi Not sure if this post is correct but should make you all drool. Its the 18Z weather report from Jan Meyen, way up above 70N in the Arctic. Draw a line north-south and it goes through the UK! 01001 11/06 93510 11078 21122 30144 40156 53020 60012 78683 333 11054 91120= That is in Met code; decoded it says 100m in heavy snow shower, sky obscured, wind 350 deg 10kt gusting 20kt; temp is MS7.8C dewpoint is MS12.2C; pressure 1015.6millibars, and the pressure is rising more rapidly at 2.0 millibars over the past 3 hours. loverly for polar bears!! Its just over 800 miles north of the northern tip of Scotland. go on drool!!
