  1. Rain/sleet all day yesterday but white this morning. Probably just 3cm but still snowing and 0.2 degrees at 140m. Better than nothing!
  2. So what are we going to get today folks? Post your snow or otherwise reports. Could be interesting today and tomorrow. I love the models forum where they are getting upset about 10days away cold breaking down but not looking at today!
  3. Fingers crossed in Hexham. I'm at about 140m which may be enough but certainly up in Allendale and above will be lots I guess. Thursday looks colder than Wednesday I would say so even if starts sleety may get better. Nice to have a chance rather than 5 degrees and drizzle like recent winters. I think we have had a little snow lying in the garden all but one day since 24th Dec
  4. So long since I've been on here! Weather interesting and in isolation so thought I would have a look. Living at 143m I'm going to miss out too!
  5. Can you set up a ski tow? If so I'm on my way - there's a tractor ploughing our road - may be he can give me a lift? John
  6. No I'm up towards the racecourse at 140m asl but it was settling well down in town earlier on. The roads in Hexham will be fine but the hills down into twn might be tricky at present - where are you coming from? John
  7. Stopped here now in Hexham. I think that's the end of it for me - amounted to 3-4cm. John
  8. Met office have managed to forecast a snow event as it happens?!?!? Getting "warmer" here quite quickly now +1.0C so wouldn't be surprised if this turns to sleet/rain later especially at lower levels. John Must be doing something in Carlisle - radar looks like precipitation on top of you? john
  9. Hi all, This snow has surprised me a little - no weather warning from Met Off yesterday? About 2cm in Hexham so far and still falling fast - looks like more to come on Radar. Temp approx. 0.6C at present and rising so could turn a little slushy later? I'm at 140m so above me will be great but lower may turn wet? This spell has been great and hopefully shut up the "we will never have snowy winters again" crowd for a while. We have had lying snow for 11 days now. I'm off to take a few photos. John
  10. Snowing quite steadily here (Hexham) now - a good covering of new snow.
  11. Hi Rollo, Definitely more chance from the North. Looks like band is very slow moving and decreasing in intensity. Also temperature is getting marginal for me now +1.3C (from -6C overnight). However still a reasonable chance of something. I have had a few flurries in the last hour from the band to the south that has now stopped. John Temperature increased really fast in the last 20 mins now 1.9C. Has this band been falling as snow further north? John
  12. Just for the record we ended up with about 10cm in Hexham yesterday before turning to sleet overnight (may be rain in the end - didn't see it) John
  13. Not a bad day. 10cm of snow - chance to go out in it while crisp this morning. Sleety now and so will probably be slush by morning. Not a bad try though! (sorry if it didn't work out for you) John
  14. Rob McE on BBC toned it down a bit and I know it's disappointing for many but in Hexham it is still snowing at 140m asl so the NorthPennines will be getting a lot of snow above 200m. John
  15. Temperature dropped a bit since earlier to 0.5C dewpoint -0.2C and still snowing steadily but not heavily. John
  16. See you've all perked up a bit! Temperature still a bit high here at 0.6C, dewpoint -0.1C but still could be good. Keep watching the radar for some heavier stuff! John
  17. Surely the forecast is talking about overnight. Most of what we could expect would not be on the radar yet. My worry is that temps become marginal (hence why they are saying above 200m). I think some of us are getting a little greedy!?
  18. I think the feature the forecasters are talking about is yet to appear (not sure though). However I am worried that the temperature will not favour anyone near the coast or without any altitude. We are at 0.6C currently and the main feature is about to strike. John
  19. It would appear that you can be too near the coast which is only to be expected. In Hexham just 16 miles inland from Newcastle we have 10cm of crisp snow and temp is 0.8C and dewpoint -0.3C. To those who have missed the snow I don't think you can call it bad forecasting as it would be rare for everyone to get the same snow. This is probably as close as it gets. Obviously being away from coast (east coast in this case) and having a little altitude helps. For Newcastle City I guess there would be an impact from city centre heat? I hope those of you currenly disppointed get something tonight or later in the week. John
