4. As for textbooks I wouldn't bother, use the secondry and advanced learning guides on the met office website here, they give a good indication and set up of UK weather and its best to start with that., I know the US severe storms are more interesting but something you can watch daily and that is relevent will be easier to learn and provide a good basis to severe storm forcasting. Also check out the learning guides on this site they are excelent and I used them serveral times while revising for my uni exam last year.

The Summers Gone

So I know I've been quiet but a lot of stuff has happenedthis summer, mostly bad but a lot of good stuff as well. Todays my last day ofsummer move in to my new flat tomorrow morning which means we shall beinternetless for at least two weeks but its ok I have my shiney new google g1phone to fix that! Means I might just about make it on every day to check letsall pray there is an unsecure wifi network on the street y/y! Two years ago today, I saw Elliot Minor for the first timewhen they opened with Fall Out Boy, two years later to the day I appear intheir new music video, which is a huge honour and a huge privilege. I can'tquite believe how fast two years have gone, in two years I've passed exams, gotin to university, passed first year of university and ended up travelling thecountry several times over to see this band. I'm not sure when this all startedI'd thought I'd end up here to be honest. I didn't think I would end up on theother side of the country, didn't think I'd end up meeting all the peopleacross the country that I have. I didn't think I'd end up with the friends Ihave. Despite the fact that my mum and step dad have split up, thefamily problems, the money problems the one thing that has kept me going isthis band. Yes I would do the 20 hour coach trips, the 18 hours sitting on coldpavements to see them, the sleepless nights travelling and the nights withouthotels all over again. My love for this band is much more than just music, its aboutthe friends I've made, the times I've had. The laughs, the aftershow partiesand hilarious inside jokes. I've had the time of my life this summer in the twoshort weeks they were on tour. Looking forward to it, so instead of moaning aboutsummer being done already I'm gonna show off how many shows I've got to go to. Jacks Mannequin – 31[sup]st[/sup] August Green Day – 19[sup]th[/sup] October Elliot Minor Ireland,Glasgow, Edinburgh– 11[sup]th[/sup] – 15[sup]th[/sup] November EdinburghHogmanay Party – 31[sup]st[/sup] December
Days and nights, they feel so good Just like the way they should Those crazy nights that were left behind were so misunderstood A missing photograph Never thinking of the past Well there's a light to see, and there's only one path

7. 18C, dark, raining, horrible low grey clouds. Felt like October all week.
8. I voted no, can't believe that a tornado that size would go unreported in the UK by someone else. Plus there doesn't seem to be any debris either around the tornado something that size would tear the countryside apart. However I will admit it took me a good twenty minutes staring at the damn thing to make my mind up. That has to be the best nonado I've ever seen, hell that would have fooled me outside as well. If I saw that coming over the hill I'd be heading for my basement.
9. I'm just wondering to what other people think, but from the photos cookie and Somerset Squall posted it looked like Felicia is developing vortexes inside the eye? Just wondering I had a conversation with a lecturer last year and he said that sometimes its a good indicator of EWR about to start? IF and a big IF because I know nothing really about hurricanes if she was to undergo EWR she would stand a pretty good chance of reaching Cat 5 right?
10. Absolutely incredibly beautiful! The third one is my fav though.
11. In the last 3 days: - I spilt a pot of boiling water on the hob over my arm and ended up with a trip to the minor injuries unit at the at Vale of Leven Hospital, since the nearest A and E is now in freaking PAISLEY and my parents refused to take me there. Thanks parents. Arm is now covered in cream and other crap. It hurts. - Last night started having a fever and the shivers, achey joints and a killer headeache. Now I’ve got a very sore throat so we called NHS 24 and I am on the list of suspected Swine Flu cases. FML. No antivirus for me yet though, tbh I don’t need them…yet. However being in an “at risk” category apparently I’ll be getting them when I get a call back from the doctor. Good news is no curly tale yet. - Apparently the paper work for the flat is “not in order” and I’m missing a character reference even though I already got my DoS to do me one. Apparently you need two character references so I need to get another one could they not have told me this in MARCH when they took my bloody £800 in deposit?! Apparently not.
12. Thanks for this, I always assumed from that I did last semester in uni that lots of dust would have been good ie lots of condensation nuclei! It's surprising to me, but completely logical how too much stunts development. Makes you wonder where that tipping point between conductive to development and detrimental is.
13. Oh my god I think I've just died and went to heaven, its only thrown out three bolts but they were freaking close! The first one was about a mile behind the house, the second one two or three in front of us and the last one was only fifty or so. I'm glad I was watching from the inside! I think I need a cup of tea now. The cells done though its completely fragmented now, can see three huge CBS to the SE over by Renfrew Way. Few to the SW near Irvine by the looks of it. I've never been that close before. Rains stopped here just about, but the view is getting good plenty of Cbs around, god was NOT expecting this today!
14. Lightning just hit the primay school right beside my house! Lucky theres a lightning conductor on the building and no damage seems to have been done by bloody hell I think I've had a heart attack! Can't stop shaking.
15. Before the storm: As the gust front rolled in! The precip core: There we go, I'm quite proud of my little downpour and how well my mobile phone managed to capture it. I think I'll call the storm Bob.
16. I do feel as if the heat warning was needed, from a biological point of view it is not the heat that is the real killer, it’s the difference form the normal that matters as your body is acclimatised to deal with your normal heat climate. When you get those sort of temperatures at night and day here it becomes a real problem to older people and young people as their bodies are not as good at keeping homeostatic equalities level. However in all honesty we do not need the level of weather forecasting as the USA does, we do not have such extreme weather events and in comparison we have a pretty calm climate even though it doesn’t seem like it. The high res Doppler radar they have is not needed here, as is the complexity and technical level of public forecasting they have. In all honesty we get what we need to know, the MetO I think are put under far too much scrutiny and pressure. They get forecasts right a lot of the time and as we all know it’s a hard thing to do to predict the future and they do dish out warnings but you have to look at the warning system they use. I don’t think people take head of the colour system, when was the last time they had a flash red warning? I can’t remember seeing it more than once in the last year and a bit. As for tornadoes, well we very rarely get any that could be considered any way ‘major’ tornadoes, the threat for the mass is just not there as compared to the European Windstorms that come though every year. Which IMO are very well forecaste, well warned and good advice for their arrival is given by forecasters. The MetO do an amazing job at something that is very hard indeed. As far as government funding goes, we’ll at the moment its not going to change, were in the middle of a recession and money is tight for every one thre are more important things than funding storm research labs for a country that does not experience very many severe storms in all honesty.
17. Not so much where I live is prone to flash flooding were on a huge hill side, I can't remember ever getting flooding here but futher up the river, dumbarton area is very prone. I was floored by Ross Bs footage I was on that road just an hour or so before the storm hit I wanted to cry when I got home and found out what was going on. I always think of that footage now when we drive down it haha.
18. Good, means this should keep going for a while, I'm concerned I can hear tons of emergency services close by I hope no ones been hurt.
19. ANYWAY, can anyone tell me what the radar for W scotland clyde vally look slike, round Helensburgh the MetO radar wont load for me! Panic moment!
20. Constant thunder here for the last hour almost, haven't seen any lighing though but the rain has been intense =]
21. Constant thunder now, the heavyest rain I have ever seen in my life now, can't make out the end of the street!
22. I just want to see one bolt of lighing I haven't seen any in well over three years now. Just one bolt of lighting from this it was to give me something.
23. Sky gone pitch black, the birds are going mental, and there is a ton of dancing skud its just amazing THUNDER NOW! *SQUEEEE*
24. We haven't had any rain since the start of this hot spell so about time we got something, the gardens partched. Looking at the radar though the part headed in to SW Scotish is intesifying good sign though!
