  1. BBC have rain turning to snow forecast for most later, may be this cold front will deliver. http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2634375?day=0
  2. More rain here, not even freezing, although you could not get much closer to the coast without getting your feet wet.
  3. BBC forecast not looking good for coastal areas, still getting bits of rain here.
  4. Very light spots of rain, in West Kirby, Wirral, although only 0.8c on Hilbre Island
  5. Not looking likely, but still a chance, we are looking at the edge of the cold that has travelled thousands miles, must be very difficult predict the last 100 miles or so.
  6. Have to agree with hot cuppa, for those of us living in the west of the region away from the Pennines, hope the Atlantic will perk up enough to give some battleground snow before getting pushed back again...
  7. Wind picking up in west kirby, near by hllbre island weather station averaging 48 knots (58 mph) 57 knot gusts (65 mph), earlier on the windsurfing world speed record may have been broken on the marine lake at 57 mph in f8 to f9 winds. http://cobs.pol.ac.u...p?code=5&span=1 Speed sailing video from today.
  8. The windsurfing world record may have been broken at West Kirby on the Wirral (Merseyside) today, 50knts or 57mph in f8-f10 winds....
  9. Wet pavements in west kirby, can see the snow line on the welsh hills looks too high for around here. Will this lower during the day?
  10. Backtrack might be right Fridays low has just disappeared off the ECM
  11. Bit off topic some video and speeds from the speed sailing at west kirby last week. http://www.redsurfbu...tans-day-2.html
  12. Yep you can race the cars on the prom, the fastest I've witnessed was 48mph. The lake starts getting a bit short and making a turn gets interesting. The link below is useful for for wind, showing 77 knot gusts for Friday, no doubt there be a few speed sailors from around the world over here this week. http://www.windguru....index.php?sc=99
  13. I normally like high winds and used to track them for windsurfing, but this looks too scary especially for my location, On the upside we could get a new world speed record on the marine lake, someone clocked 49mph last week.
  14. All the models for Friday's storm seem to be in agreement, still looking very scary even the fax charts for Thursday so an extremely deep low out to the west. The jet stream charts are just part of the same model output, so I can't see how a downgrade can be made by looking at them. I hope there is a downgrade as the currenlty modelled storm would cause significant damage and disruption.
  15. This storm in 1990 caused extensive damage to Merseyside and North Wales, winds reached over 100 mph destroying New Brighton Swimming baths and flooding Towyn in Wales. The forecast for Friday looks much worse, but at least the tides will be lower... Friday
  16. It's not calm here still blowing 35 mph, although that's down from 60+ today. http://cobs.pol.ac.uk/cobs/met/hilbre/ Can't see much snow coming out of this event, but you never know...
  17. Local weather station at Hilbre island, Wirral showing a South Easterly, would this put it further south than expected? We should be getting a S. Westerly http://coastobs.pol.ac.uk/cobs/met/hilbre/
  18. Very windy when I left home this morning. Storm force 10 gusting to 11 on hilbre island. (57 to 64 knots)
  19. 70+ mph winds on hilbre island. Sand storm by morrissons in west kirby, wirral. Anglesey and north Wales must be getting battered.
  20. Force 9 to 10 on Hilbre Island, Wirral. Sustained 45 knots Max 56 knots (64 MPH). Hilbre Weather Station Pretty wind here about a mile away.
