  1. Well I didn't think there was any chance of snow here tonight as it's been far too warm and with a wind off the sea. But there's a little sleetiness in it now and a gritter went through the village recently, though probably just salting the higher roads, which is a bit of a waste of salt at the moment.
  2. Had a couple of showers between 2100 and 2200 which covered over the gaps from todays thaw, but from 2235 and continuing now a really heavy shower which has easily added an inch and still going. Not sure we'll get much more after this one.
  3. Here on the North side of York it's cloudy now, but looking at the webcam back home, still very snowy and heavy showers continuing. Weather warning updated as well, so many near the coast should get some more once the sun goes down.
  4. A good 7cm with us, don't you just love a Northerly, puts what we've just had to shame! As per usual, amounts ease the further west you go and nothing towards York as you drop off the Wolds. Roads are OK, but the usual prangs and cars in hedges scenario.
  5. Heavy snow shower now and the good news is that the wind has dropped out completely, so if you catch a shower it will last a bit, not like the last couple of days. One car made some tracks through the village and 5 minutes later they were covered over again. Let's see what the night brings.
  6. Down to 0,4 here, so everything that has fallen has frozen solid. Roads won't be pleasant in the morning.
  7. Had a couple of hail/snow showers in the last hour, not settled too much but very icy out there. And another shower, turning white now.
  8. Looking quite wintry at home now, click on weather trends. http://www.eastyorkshire.co.uk/eddsfield/
  9. Quite a few showers yesterday evening and particularly after 2200 to just after midnight left a reasonable cover. This morning however, there was a lot less than anticipated and not from thawing, is there a lot of evaporation going on? Leaving the valley onto the Wolds tops you would hardly even know it had snowed at all. Very odd. Heavy snow showers moving in now.
  10. Plenty of showers this evening, mostly brief, but a lengthy one half an hour ago, so all over white again.
  11. Heavier shower rolling in now and really blowing around.
  12. Right on the bottom edge of that but looks even heavier further North. There was a dusting on the roofs when I got up earlier.
  13. very light sleet, but has been light snow all afternoon on the higher parts of the Wolds, but nothing settling.
  14. The weather warnings have been expanded for this region and now extend to Sunday and Monday as well. Game on. Definitely sleet here as well having checked the windscreen, which is surprising as DP's nearer 2 than 1.
  15. 2.2 and wet, need to do a windscreen test as nothing wintry visible.
  16. With regard to convection and cloud cover, this seems to be a deciding factor for the potential development of showers off the North Sea. Excuse me for not recalling the date, but one of our heavier falls of snow in January started as convective showers moving in from the SE and when the front moved in from the SW later in the day, the convection appeared to enhance the precipitation as the two merged. Wouldn't this be a possibility rather than the cloud cover just being limiting, or does the band of precipitation moving in need to be closer to the convection? Excuse my lack of technical knowledge.
  17. Interesting, only got to 6.7 here, quite a cool breeze off the sea.
  18. Absolutely not, it's really warm out there. Actually, it's not that pleasant, humidity 100%.
  19. Big range in temps locally according to http://www.eastyorkshire.co.uk/eddsfield/ click on weather trends. Currently 39.6 with a high of 44.6. Yesterday min -39.1, max 42.4. Could be a new world record. 4.2 in the valley below, with a min of -3.6.
  20. Yes, they're hanging on in there, but could be gone by the end of the week.
  21. Same here, light snow and a dusting and you're further North than here!!!!
  22. The Fax chart shows a band stretching form Lincs up to SE Scotland, which seems to have a kink in it as well. Could this enhance the precipitation? What is UK4, I seem to have missed out on this one?
  23. Ian Ferguson just replied to my post in the models thread that highest risk of snow is for E Yorks, Moors (and Dartmoor). Only 2cm anticipated but better than nothing.
  24. 75% cover still on the lawn and has been icing up and going to have to clear some off my windscreen in the morning as well. There was an amber warning last week as well (Friday?), didn't see anything though.
  25. Temp crept up to 2.4, but the fog is clearing and the sun coming out, so a rapid thaw coming.
