  1. Still a full cover here this morning and the temp has only just now crept above 1c. Temp rose above 0 soon after midnight so the freezing rain would have hung on for a while after I went to bed. Foggy now.
  2. The second band arrived an hour ago, pure freezing rain, still -0.4 and only rising very slowly. Very nasty stuff, ice everywhere.
  3. Any freezing rain in the second band? Still -0.6 here and blowing a gale.
  4. After snow from 1330 it turned to heavy frozen drizzle about 1900 for about 30 minutes, then a mixture of heavy freezing rain, ice pellets and snow flakes all at the same time, before dying out at 2015. Never seen anything like it and really unpleasant out there. At least I have an outside light so I can watch while the football's on. Add to this the wind which has drifted the snow even here in the valley, a gust of 36.5 knots recorded on top of the hill here recently. The snow now has a solid crust, which has at least stopped the drifting. Hard to tell the snow depth with the drifting, but around 6cm.
  5. Still snowing here and really windy with some lovely drifts around the house, as Vizzy says, will be some impressive drifting on the tops. When I say snow, I think it's actually frozen rain at the moment, temp -1.1, fell to -1.6 earlier.
  6. Temp still dropping here, now -1.6c. Reports of some road closures on the Wolds and not much traffic getting through here.
  7. Came back from York early! Amazing how the temp keeps falling, now -0.8. Has been mainly light here but slowly increasing in intensity and the weather station on top of the hill is reporting -1.5 with gusts to 30 knots. Brrrr. Just noticed that all the moisture on the outside of the window has frozen! Finally some heavier snow arrives.
  8. Best team in Yorkshire of course. Apologies, couldn't resist, but looking good for a spell of snow, though late in the day for me in the east and by the time we wake up again probably all gone. Roll on spring and some warmth after that please.
  9. Wolds update. Eventually late in the evening we had some very wet snow, but nothing heavy got as far East as us, the total rainfall for yesterday was a mere 2.0 mm. Driving into York there were snow patches about 6 miles inland from us and a slight cover above 150m, but this lowered to about 100m by 10 miles inland from us. Only a cm or so on the highest parts and nothing after the Wolds and was not clear enough to see the North York Moors or Pennines.
  10. Some slightly heavier sleet now and DP down to 0 with wind picking up, but we're going to miss out this time.
  11. And a non-event here, 1.3mm sleety drizzle also and just reached a max of 2.1. The main precipitation is getting nowhere near here.
  12. Only light sleet here and you'd only know that from the car windscreen. Temp been up to 1.8, but just dropping back a bit.
  13. Colder here in the East, now -2 and DP -3, not much will get this way tomorrow by the looks of things.
  14. Still pretty snowy on the Wolds. Caught a light shower yesterday evening and some light snow before dawn giving a further dusting and had started again when I left for York.
  15. Slight change in wind direction? Showers over Whitby seem to be pushing inland a little. Models not looking so good for us in the east for the weekend, but after that some good potential for showers off the North Sea. Nice cold uppers too.
  16. The village actually made it onto all the traffic info sites this morning, it was that bad.
  17. As 4wd said last night the wind kept the temp above 0 and it was really dripping from the trees, but the temp must have dropped quickly because the roads here this morning were lethal. Min -1.1 and that's now 20 with cover since Dec, not counting 3 days that were close and some other days with temporary accumulations. I've had enough now thanks.
  18. Been in London today, but the wife said sleet and snow showers with some temporary accumulations. Drove back onto the Wolds around Market Weighton at 2100 into heavy snow showers with some slight accumulations, but mainly above 50 m. Have had some heavy showers in the last hour and totally white now, even the road is covered, though looks like they'll be moving offshore soon.
  19. Interesting trip over to Preston and back. Slight snow cover this morning from the West side of York right across to Bolton area. South of Leeds hadn't done well, but once onto the M62 there was a decent cover on the hills. Just come back through that heavy snow, which wasn't pleasant on the tops. Got stuck in almost stationary traffic between Bradford and Leeds just as the heavy band came through and it was really chucking it down, Came back on the M62 and the Howden route and once past the M1 junction it all really fizzled out until coming up onto the Wolds when it started again. Looking at the radar there seems to be a bit of a split in the front. No snow cover until Driffield, where it was just about starting to settle at 30 m ish, but a decent cover on the Wolds here, though very wet stuff. Has just stopped here, with lots of dripping.
  20. Just got home from York and caught the tail end of a shower at Fridaythorpe with some snow coming down. Temp here 2.2 but had been down to 1.7. Not really expecting much here in a Westerly, but remember many nights like this in Penistone with continuous heavy snow showers.
  21. Bit of a streamer going on here, it's been snowing for an hour and more to come. Some heavier bursts but with the temp above 0 not really building up too much, but quite pretty all the same.
  22. Also a light cover here and now snowing again heavily, some graupel as well. Actually chucking it down now and the road is covered. Min temp 0.2, which is now.
  23. I love the topplers. Heavy snow showers, a couple of good frosts, then time to move on. Perfect scenario. Last one was first week of December with 6 cm, but all too infrequent the last few years.
  24. My last snow pile disappeared overnight, though there are still a few in the village and drifts in the hedges. Quite a big pile still in the car park at the Triton Inn, Sledmere. Was also quite icy this morning on the back roads. Snow showers tonight??
