  1. 100% when I left for London this morning and about 75% in the garden now and more than this in other parts of the village. A lot of this is down to location, a N-S fairly deep valley, quite well protected from the wind and rain the past couple of days. This morning the cover extended about 3 miles to the South and maybe 2 to the East and hard to tell to the West and impossible to see North. But tonight driving back (yes it's dark, but the moon was out!)there was almost nothing until dropping down into the village. An interesting location this, so keen to see what's left when I wake up. Wife said there was thunder about 6 pm as well.
  2. Still thick here, but some green patches now appearing on them hill exposed to the wind. Fully expecting this to still be with us in the morning.
  3. Still full cover here, easily 4 inches. It helps being further east with less rain and in a valley protected from the wind.
  4. What a fantastic day. Went out for a 5 mile circuit of the village, up the hill, along the Wolds tops and back down another hill. Took 3 hours!!!! Mainly because I took a couple of hundred photos but also it was really hard work struggling through snow a foot deep in places. The farmers on the top had done a great job with snow clearance, but that didn't stop a guy in a Range Rover from ending up in the ditch. He was there with a mate in another 4wd (no not you from the NYM!!!) and I got some photos of them digging it out, but had to be a bit careful as he wasn't happy!!!! Great wildlife about and loads of tracks, but the best was watching a stoat playing in the snow, he as having a great time. I couldn't get anywhere near enough to take a decent shot without alerting him sadly. Have been back to clear the snow off the drive and depths are hard to work out. It's a minimum of 6 inches but a lot of it is 8 and even 10 inches deep of fresh snow, but there was a fair bit of drifting, on the grass is back to 25cm again.. On the tops it's deeper and drifts are up to 3 feet deep. Max last night was 0.1 before falling back to below freezing again. Not a huge thaw here yet either, max 2.5 so far. Has been lovely and sunny but clouding over now. Today reminds me very much of the morning after the 95 event when I lived in Penistone, though not as deep.
  5. Decent fresh covering now considering the heavier band hasn't got to us yet. Difficult to work out depths as its blowing around so much. Temp -1.2 and still falling.
  6. Finally arrived here. No-one much mentioning the wind, but very gusty here in the valley and there was a lot of drifting on the hills before the snow arrived. Could be a few road closures tonight.
  7. Wife has just got home from Leeds and said the snow is drifting badly on the Wolds.
  8. Just posted the same on twitter 4wd. Was quite surprised on the tops of the Wolds to see it drifting as the breeze has hardly got going. Could cause a few problems later.
  9. Don't worry mate, no sleepless night for you as my entry is safe. Wish I could have put it back a couple of weeks until may now.
  10. Late home tonight to find we had a light snow cover from the showers in the afternoon. Thought it would be rain watching the radar and reading the reports on here, but started as sleet and turned to snow, leaving a further cover on the drive again. Not too much thaw here, but quite a lot in York, which really didn't do well in this spell.
  11. Looks like a slight change in wind direction might be about to push the North Sea showers inland a bit.
  12. It hasn't actually stopped snowing here at all as there's persistent very light snow but is leaving a dusting on all surfaces. That's 24 hours now.
  13. Usually the temp drops in snow, especially the heavier bursts, but even though there's a few flakes in the wind, as soon as the main band cleared here the temp has dropped. Has mostly been around 0.2/0.3 all day, now -0.6. Having said that, the wind has dropped as well, which may have been the moderating factor. I would hope that by the time we (hopefully) get the next lot that the sea temps will have fallen somewhat to make it less marginal.
  14. Have been under a heavier band for about an hour and a half now which has added 2 or 3 cms. Knew I'd cleared the drive too soon!
  15. All depends who measures the snow. When men do the measuring the totals are much higher than the ladies for some reason!
  16. An in between event here. Snow all the way, but very wet until late in the night. The effect of this was to increase the thaw, but eventually cooled sufficiently to allow some build up, 5cm or so added now. Difficult to tell the overall depth, but probably back to what we had before the thaw started. Still snowing, but the wind has eased a bit, but fair bit of drifting on top of the Wolds I would imagine, even a bit here down in the valley.
  17. Heavy snizzle here with a light dusting on the car. Still not 100% certain it will snow here, but if it does, expect road closures around here because it will seriously drift.
  18. Adam, I can assure you that you are becoming annoying. You are not pointing out the obvious, just moaning. There are times with snow in the forecast when we can all moan, but unless you live in an elevated position, or move further North and East, you will always just have to grin and bear it. Please get a good job, save hard and move to a mountain in Scotland, come back on to this site and laugh at us with our pitiful amounts of snow.
  19. Drove through Oughtibridge yesterday and you had more than I was expecting after your reports from Friday. Some decent accumulations on the hills around Sheffield.
  20. Very interesting observations on here today about the thaw. It's been above freezing all day yesterday and overnight with a min of 0.5 and today has been up to 1.5, but dropped back a bit recently. The DP has remained well below 0 however and currently -2, resulting in very little thaw at all. You have to look hard to see any dripping, a bit of the wife's car and some from the table on the decking, and the ground with bare patches is clearing of any ice, but that;s it. Snow has sublimated a bit but still a good 20 - 25 cm + on the grass as a result of being in the prime position for Monday and Friday's events. Still a bit concerned about the snow later. We're 10 miles (9.75 to be exact) from the coast, but at 70m which helps a bit. But in situations like this previously, it's has been rain, sleet or wet snow, so we'll just have to wait and see.
  21. Still heaving it down here, surely won't last much longer. Over an hour and a half of heavy snow and really piling up. Had at least 12 cm today, but will do a proper check later and that's on top of the 10 cm on the ground from Monday. Temp risen here too, now at it's highest for days at -0.3.
  22. It's absolutely throwing it down here. Will update later on totals, but about an hour ago we'd had 7cm today. Road looking very poor and no traffic coming through the village, so it may be closed now. Not a good omen for getting to Hillsborough tomorrow.
  23. Don't worry about missing out swfc, I'll fill the boot and bring it to Hillsborough tomorrow. That's is if I can get there - half hoping it's called off.
