  1. Humongous snow storm, the closest to a blizzard I've seen this year in Sheff. Poor visibility and dry powder blowing across the road. Splendid. Hoping for Disruption this morning!
  2. At my sisters on the lowest ground in Sheffield and the snow has been falling lightly for a while now. A dusting on bins, roofs and cars. Should be more intesting when i get home.
  3. Snow still coming down in Sheffield. About 6-7cm on the ground. Light snow with some big fluffy flakes mixed in now. What a great year for snow its been here - so many individual events. Main roads tricky and side roads awful with many cars getting stuck. I think the warning level should have been higher. You know its been a good year for snow when 'normal' people are complainaing that they have had enough of this enough and that it seems to be never ending. It really has been Sheffield's year!
  4. Heavy snow (not as heavy as Tuesday) now. Covered side roads, pavements and grass very quickly and surprisingly given the wet surfaces. Got to say this has been a good year for Sheffield for the number of individual snowfalls and even the depths. Loving winter 12/13.
  5. Sorry but you don't say where you are? Are you in the right region?
  6. Rainy sleet in North Sheffield now. It's making this mornings cover look soggier and soggier.
  7. Hi Mark, I would have thought the pennines would cause the band to liven up given a SEly wind which will be forced to rise against the hills. The good thing is we are actually on the right side of the hills in South Yorks. So this may aid our cause and not hinder. But overall this is a difficult call which could give very little or a suprise dumping???
  8. This seems to be going tits up! We were supposed to be the sweet spot in a year when Sheffield had a snow magnet in force. Even the easterly seems to have been reduced significantly to mean that convective snow will be a coastal feature. I hope im wrong but the uppers on the ecm model are not as good. But maybe as the storm develops more adjustments north are made and this will influence the upstream signals. Otherwise a great winter in Sheffield. With a job involving driving around Yorks, i can tell you weve done well for snow here so cant be dissapointed.
  9. 4cm in sheff, You have to be joking? Have you got mixed up with cms and inches. I know it variable across the city given the heights bu even on lower ground whe my parents live it was 10cms when I left them at half 10 last night. This event was special because we never get such snow coming in from the west, that was unusual. I had to abandon my car and walk with the family. I'll tell you it wasn't and still isn't 4cm.
  10. Had to abandon the car in Sheffield and walk half a mile with our 3 little girls including my 3 year old. The car just would move not move up the slight hill. Audi's are terrible in the snow. Ill tell you this is the worst snow since 2010. It's about 8-9 inches deep and still powering down.
  11. Yes people also know the hills break up this precipitation and we are usually left with light to moderate snow. I hope I'm wrong. Sheffield 150m
  12. It would appear from everyone's comments that it's been the Leeds into Sheffield zone (Barnsley, Rotherham, West Yorks) in general that has done well from this. Some posters from Sheffield suggesting not much which is surprising. I'm in the north of the city where we've boot a deep cover of about 8 inches. Sheffield 150m
  13. Some people are suggesting Sheffield hasn't done well and that there was only 3-4cm? I Live at average height for Sheffield and I can confirm there have been over 20cms of snow. I will measure later, it's at least 20cms and it's still snowing albeit lightly. My mum lives in the lowest part of Sheffield and she tells me that the roads are awful and this is the worst since 2010. So where is Sheffield there has been 3-4cms I'm not quite sure. This is turning out to be an awesome event for Sheffield. Sheffield 150m
  14. Quite big fluffy flakes falling in a strong breeze in Sheffield. Love the way the radar went darker close to the city. I suspect this is the impcat of the hills. In my experiance of following the weather, Ive realised an easterly rarely fails for Sheffield. Road covered already.. Looks like we are in for an exciting night where ill have to make constant excuses to peep out of the window! Sorry in advance for typos, its tricky using my phone to post.
  15. Snow been falling in Sheffield. Great to see it so early. Theres a dusting on the cars already but im sure it was just a fleeting shower so far inland. Not sure if its still falling and i cant check caz the Mrs wont be hapi if i look yet again. Sheffield 150 asl.
  16. Im further west of you in Sheffield and I can confirm that although the radar is showing moderate snow - its not. Looking at wider comments it seems that this is an issue elsewhere as well. Starnage - I would love to have an explaination as to why this occurs from one of our knowledgeable members? We barely have a dusting here.
  17. Slightly better but only just ... light constant snow now - but again light. The radar is showing moderate stuff but its not true and I'm not even on low ground!
  18. Dont get something, the radar is showing moderate outbreaks over me - but all we have had is very light snow in Sheffield that has lasted for approx 10 mins? Can anyone expalin this - it's like a phantom radar? Can others in the locality confirm this or is it just me and over my head? Sheffield, Shirecliffe 150m. (Still have a cover of snow!)
  19. Moderate snow falling in Sheffield - covered the road and topping up the lawn and paths again! Wasn't really expecting this! Dusting on all uncovered surfaces. Sheffield 150m
  20. Fantastic snow in Sheffield! Just stopped after a few hours, was heavier for the last hour and a half. Gave an inch of fresh snow - thats topped up the existing 3to4 inches before. I really wasn't expecting so much. I cant really remember getting a decent snowfall from the west - this was one of the best! The main road has some snow settled in the centre and the side road has a cm covering. A great evening! .... and I suspect, cautiously...maybe more tommorow. If tommorow does deliever, it will be great for the city, it is the perfect setup for the heaviest snow that Sheffield can get as the strong winds bang against the peninnes and dump their load on us. Fingers crossed. Sheffield 150m
  21. Met office weather watch now extends to Yorkshire, the NW and covers the whole of E Anglia for Monday and Tues. It is however the yellow colour as opposed to the Orange - indicates uncertainty with the northern extent of the band. Nowcasting looks the way things will go! Sheffield 150m 4 inches of snow still on the grass!
  22. Hi LO, Just been on the website to check on S.Yorks, it does appear to be there... HI Just been on the website to check on S.Yorks, it does appear to be there... Yorkshire & Humber: E Riding of Yorkshire Kingston upon Hull N Lincolnshire N Yorkshire NE Lincolnshire S Yorkshire W Yorkshire York Heavy Snow Sun 8 Feb There is a moderate risk of a severe weather event affecting parts of central and northern England, and northeast Wales on Sunday. There is a potential for around 5cm in places as a band of snow moves eastwards. Issued at: 1127 Fri 6 Feb
  23. Hi, This is my first post - this enjoyable cold spell has bought me out of the woodwork! What a week, we woke up to 2-3cm's on Monday, I always felt we were in a gap in the radar. Then a morning of snow showers followed by a good 6 - 7 inches of snow. Again yesterday we have a fresh 2.5inches. Max snow depth so far has been 7 inches. We still have 5-6inches on the grass and about 4-5 on the pavements. Already a week of snow and probably much more! Sunday looks interesting but just seen the 7.57 forecast on BBC News(24) and Darren Brett said, the front from the west would be 'weak' and should lead to some 'light snow'. I'm expecting a cm or 2. For us in Sheffield we always do poorly from snow coming in from the west, but we do better with snow from the South West - the positive thing is that the orientation does look SW. I did drive to Sprunehorpe on Wednesday, was surprised to see how quickly the snow diminished as I drove out of Sheffield. Doncaster seemed to be the boundry of the snow. I know this changed with Thursday mornings event. Sheffield's done well so far - beats our last heavy snowfall here in Feb/March 2005. That snowfall was relevant to high ground - the centre of Sheffield only having a cm or 2, this time we have all done well. Today's output has been a rollercoaster - a great one.
