Yep even in Sheffield, as the precipitation has got heavier it's turned to sleet with ice pellets that can be heard bouncing off the windows. Thats it from this chapter....when will the next one arrive?

Now very light snow in my part of Sheffield. I think it's turning to sleet even at 150m hopefully just because it's lighter but probably not given the reports from the west. However a nice covering.

Away in Vancouver where it is positively mild. I've just checked my camera's at home and Sheffield looks like it's having a good snow day. Can't make out the true depth but it looks like a nice covering. Some abandoned cars on the side road. Back on a Thursday, I hope it lasts. White over now, even my side road is covered now! Surprised how readily it's settled. However it's the sort of snow that you know will be rain further down the hill in the centre of Sheffield (I think).

It never fails to surprise me how much things can vary locally. I'm in Sheffield and it's been pretty much snow the whole way through, mostly light but some heavy as is the case now. Everything is white with a cm or two and even the roads are covered. Would have been nice to have a deep Yorks wide event.

Well after all the drama the precipitation surely did reach Sheffield and it's heavy as well. However I'm at 150masl and it still seems to be heavy rain. Ive been sqinting at the street light to spot the snow flakes but they are very elusive! Maybe it will change to snow.......

Gas 18z out on its own taking the precipitation further north. Sheffield and South Yorks to be be in the firing line but somehow I've a feeling that all other models will probably be right and hfs wrong again rather like the previous event. Tell me not to get excited! Sheffield 150m asl

Yes, it ties in with in the BBC text forecast. Light snow!! We've gone from about 10mm precipitation accumulation to 3mm. That says it all. What a shame. Maybe next time. ? Could still be corrected. Sheffield 150asl

I remember the Boxing Day snow of a few years back. It was a smallish feature that again had an uncertain track with forecasters saying it may fringe Sheffield at the time .....however what followed was amazing with at least six inches. There wasn't even an amber warning when there should have been, given all the hold ups in the city. Even I had to abandon my car. I remember it was a case of radar watching and it wasn't nailed right up until tit actually played out. i guess one thing in our favour in south yorks is the uplift that the Peak District provides in an easterly flow, I understand this will be an easterly feed of air. So outcomes still uncertain, yes may miss but equally may smash us!!! Hoping for the latar.

Snow falling in Sheffield, looks sleety but fluffy flakes again this weekend!

Hi PiT, I can confirm snow in Sheffield last night lasting quite a few hours! It started about midnight and it lasted at least after 2.30am when I awoke to check. I didn't see much laying but the snow was falling heavily with thick fluffy wet flakes. There was a icing sugar like coating beginning to build at 2pmish. I was disappointed not to see anything in the morning upon waking. So if you went to bed on time and woke up normally then you would be non the wiser!

i drove up the M1 out of Sheffield and now at Wolley Edge service near Wakefild. It was all snow in Sheffield and a good covering of about 5cms around grenoside. However as soon as I hit the M1 near Barnsley it turned quickly to rain. It seems this warm sector heading south and turning things to rain. Here are some more pics.... 1st is along the A61 out of Sheff...nice trees! 2nd is approaching the tankers key roundabout on the A61 and the 3rd is Wolley services. Where it's raining heavily!
