  1. Just a lull mate, take a look at the isobars out west, no chance we're escaping this.
  2. I don't think the hills will offer much protection this time, south westerly is usually a harsh direction for us (Cheshire) at least. This event looks bad.
  3. Sleeting mate, big flakes mixed with the rain Nah I think it's spot on, coastal locations almost certainly in danger, further inland although they'll be very strong, I think amber is enough.
  4. Winds of 100mph possible? Dangerous, scary stuff! Red warning, wow.
  5. Can't see where this overnight snow is going to come from???
  6. North West Tonight had a meaty band of snow over us @ 2-5am... Forecast originally had it in the Midlands apparently. Showers beginning to form overland now, rather than over the sea which is interesting, must be a lot of moisture associated with this air flow, wouldn't be surprised to see more showers forming overnight!
  7. Didn't think I'd be able to say this this winter:Had half an hour of heavy snow that turned everywhere white, melting away now, just need more PPN now. We have these cold uppers until 6am, after that it's rain all the way.
  8. Was a rubbish day yesterday with winds and rain. Today much calmer and brighter, although it looks like it's gonna hammer it down later looking at the precipitation forecasts.
  9. Can't wait for this nightmare of a winter to be over so I can feel the warmth of the sun on my face again.
  10. Nah, I think we both know stratospheric warming generally takes longer than two weeks to filter down to the troposphere to effect our weather. I would however suggest that it may promote height rises over the Arctic, leading to an increased likelihood in easterly's, promoting a colder than average Spring. Still all up in the air, of course. Stratospheric warming won't always lead to a pattern change, however the longevity of the current pattern would put the odds in our favour for a change some time soon. My punt would certainly be March, but not any sooner.
  11. That heavier section of the band to the north looks like it's snow, must have either some cold air wrapped around it, or just be taking full advantage of evaporative cooling, lucky for some. Not for me, I missed it by ten miles or so.
  12. Just had a text from the girlfriend working in Ormskirk informing me it's absolutely lashing it down with snow there, big fat flakes. I am jealous!
  13. Those showers over in Ireland won't make it here. They've been there all day, they die out as they hit the sea and lose their energy. If you're seeing showers right now, there's a chance they'll continue throughout the night. If not, there's no window of opportunity, it's dry.
  14. That squall line earlier was insane. Torrential rain, hail, very high winds, thunder every few seconds!
  15. Well I'm not up to date on the models as I rarely post here when the weather sucks, but I for one would be thankful of some sunny, crisp days as opposed to this mild, damp, depressing mush we've had to endeavour for so long. Any snow is a bonus. Looking at last nights 18z run, we had a series of north westerly incursions bringing sub -5C uppers, given the right set up and embedded surface cold, it wouldn't take much for a setup like that to deliver for much of the reason. Embedded surface cold was certainly the theme of last nights 18Z run, although it was a particulary cloudy run unfortunately. A pattern change would be lovely some time this century... Hopefully it'll be sooner rather than later.
  16. Hail and sleet showers here. Isn't freezing out though.
  17. Just looking forward to summer. This winter is a write off completely. Useless weather patterns, lasting for 5 months and then just looks like resetting. Snow? What's that?
