  1. I'm not getting my, or your, hopes up, but it's really building in the North Sea! Ok, I am...
  2. Really hoping for 'why didn't I pull an all nighter, last night' comments tomorrow...
  3. Another good dusting while in Sainsbury's. Untreated roads near home are ice rinks. Less gritting this year, probably due to Covid, just bus routes and main roads it seems. Greenwich council about 25% down on staff right now. Still a slight snizzle now, but hoping for more overnight.
  4. Those flakes are bigger than anything we've had here so far in the last 48hrs. Just need a good few hours of that.
  5. The precip coming from the North Sea and EA is looking very good. Really hoping it starts to pile through SE London soon. Any reports from Ipswich area on intensity?
  6. More radar echo's appearing near the Netherlands coast (only using NW radar). This is good news
  7. IMBY, I could really do with this moving to a more ENE direction, or better.
  8. That's very cool (no pun intended). That's like the super cooled bottles of water that are liquid until you tap them on something and they then freeze. My pure comment was more about there being solids in whatever the snow landed on bringing the temperature up, instead of it just landing on snow. Completely unqualified and just my basic science brain working overtime. </on topic>
  9. I would say that even though the freezing point of water is 0c, to keep water frozen takes a colder temperature, especially if snow falls onto something that isn't pure, or even ever so slightly above 0c. That's why your freezer is at about -18c (though I'm aware that's also to freeze things quickly). That snow came from a much colder place than the ground. Typing out loud, prepared to be corrected. edit: in hindsight, that wasn't a great post, sorry
  10. Just popped out to the bins and there is about 2cm accumulated on them. Not fantastic, but from the windows everything is white, were not disturbed. Light snow still falling and adding a dusting to cleared surfaces. Keeping a keen eye on the radar (while trying to work...)
  11. Much brighter echoes appearing on the radar, in small bands across London. The streamer effect is moving south.
  12. Definitely picked up in SE London after a lull for a couple of hours. Streamer activity in the north seems to be moving south too.
  13. Nice to wake up to everything completely white, if only about a centimeter at most. Looking east now at the changing direction and build of the precip in the estuary.
  14. So, really icy outside, with 1cm on the wheelie bin. All hard surfaces wet so could be treacherous tomorrow. Looking for some shows to add to the frozen dusting on grass and vehicles.
  15. Was worried about the break up, but there is definitely more building into the EA coast.
  16. The very narrow band to the west has added a very good covering so far, including a start on the roads. This is a good sign.
  17. No matter how much has settled, continuous snow since 0730 is great to watch. We wouldn't be rushing out in to it anyway so the view from the window, is pleasing.
  18. I know this may be obvious to some, but the radar is much more representative of who's getting what when you turn OFF precip type. It shows the intensity difference much better.
  19. In a bit of a lull here now and the covering on cars is definitely receding. Radar showing some potential soon though, as the higher intensity band continues to slide slowly west.
