  1. I can remember the January 87 spell too and news reports of Glasgow getting hit quite hard. If my memory is correct the really cold air arrived on a Saturday but the snow showers were being fed in on a south easterly to start and Edinburgh missed out as Fife took a pummelling but by the Sunday lunchtime there must have been a slight change in the wind and Edinburgh and the Lothians joined in the fun. The snow was deep and powdery but I didn’t measure in these days, just went sledging.
  2. Ok, just had a look at the ECM and it’s not a bad run. I think we’re all a bit scared to ramp it up in case it all goes wrong but that was some run. The low squeezing against the high will really drive the streamers in across the whole of Scotland you would think with a high wind chill and drifting.
  3. Wow! Haven’t popped into the southeast model thread yet but will now. Nightmare, I was on page 6 and it’s now 19 pages long!
  4. Yeah, strange sort of day with the snow. At one point mid morning it was looking like we were going to get a decent covering then it fizzled out and melted and now it’s trying it’s hardest to settle again but just sticking on grass at moment.
  5. Well the bbc week ahead forecasts might just look a bit better if they are using the ECM op run as reported!
  6. I agree, red warnings galore if it turns out like that!
  7. Yeah, I think we would all be fairly happy with that run.
  8. Here’s a few pics from my walk in the Pentlands this morning.
  9. My garden temp sensor is dropping so you never know.
  10. Decent snow shower! We might catch a few coming in off the sea tonight.
  11. Brilliant video and really captures the severity of the conditions. Well if the GFS 06 run came off at least we could ditch the word marginal. (even Hawesy)
  12. Both replied at the same time but roughly saying the same thing.
  13. You’re right, NW isn’t very good for Edinburgh unless there is a wee disturbance or trough in the flow. I think It’s more ENE or easterly that Glasgow can do well off as streamers or showers slide through the Forth valley rather than a direct NE event but happy to be corrected.
  14. I can report than piste conditions in the north west of 101 resort remain in excellent condition.
  15. Good luck to the western contingent this weekend. Just popped into the model thread and the extended outlook starting look better/colder again.
  16. You need to get back in the house and get on with the home schooling!
  17. One for the Fife contingent! Pic looking North catching one of the Lomond hills. Looks snowy, @Kirkcaldy Weather I feel for you.
  18. Some more great discussions in here, as has been the norm this winter, really enjoying it. Time for a back door light pic.
