  1. Slightly better than yesterday in that it way dry and cold rather than drizzly and cold. never mind though, the drizzle has arrived just in time to stop me painting the fence for yet another day.
  2. Flown into Manchester from holiday many times and can hardly remember when there wasn’t annoying cloud over the region.
  3. Yep I shouldn’t complain really as we did ok from the snowy easterlies but this stuff is crap and certainly not the fence painting weather I wanted. anyway a glimmer of hope from Di Ox showing dry and steadily warmer over the weekend and into next week. it can’t come soon enough for me and my heating bill.
  4. 8c and the third day of drizzle up here. technically mild and it’s only April but yuk. never mind though at least there is the promise of something warmer in the coming days down south so at least we can sit in our lower teens and cloud while others enjoy the first period of lower 20’s and beer garden conditions.
  5. It’s certainly felt like winter here. got to 7c but even the sunshine had no warmth to it.
  6. Any chance of some warm weather, i’m fed up with winter now off to North Yorkshire coast for a couple of days over Easter and would love shorts and t shirt conditions but I suppose i’ll settle for anything less than full arctic gear.
  7. Still a few flakes coming down and a bit of blowing snow but nothing compared to earlier. Pretty impressive stuff while it lasted though
  8. The problem is that the warnings are based on probability of impacts and although I can understand it not being extended during the dry afternoon yesterday, the snow set in here at about 6pm and it’s been pretty well constant blizzard conditions since. It’s the failure to not react and extend as conditions deteriorated overnight that I don’t understand.
  9. BBC forecast shows the snow clearing shortly but there are still some pretty bright radar echoes across the South Pennines so another couple of hours may yet be on the cards. one thing is for sure, the Met O underestimated the snow IMBY with us comfortably outside of the Amber area throughout and yet most local roads either blocked or virtually impassible
  10. I can’t speak for Rawtenstall but higher up the valley in Bacup this is what we’ve got and it’s still coming down like mad. i don’t know how much as fallen because the wind has blown in around but i’d imagine at least 6 inches and I wouldn’t be surprised if we have drifts of over 6 feet within a few minutes walk of here. this reminds me so much of 22nd March 2013 and that was the worst since 1979.
  11. There never is much evidence of gritting in Bacup, especially when ice and snow is forecast but tonight is bad, probably the worst blizzard here since the one in late March 2013. i’m quite looking forward to seeing the drifts up the lane tomorrow.
  12. Sounds promising. you know which way to send them, up the Calder Valley and then straight over the tops at Todmorden, i’ll be sat there waiting.
  13. Even at my altitude it’s not your average March Saturday night.
  14. Still a full on blizzard here, a lot worse IMBY than little beast’s big brother at the beginning of the month.
  15. Never mind, at least there should be enough film now for a full series of channel 5 documentary’s about severe British weather which show nothing north of the M4
  16. Don’t blame you. i was going to walk up to the pub, 200 yards at the most but looking outside it’s a stopping in night.
  17. For once i’m In the sweet zone, slap bang under the bright yellow blob to the left. hopefully the snow isn’t yellow
  18. If Met. O warnings are put out for impacts then looking at the cars struggling up the main road outside our house and the snow still piling up, I think we should have been in the Amber zone after all. probably only a couple of inches deep but it’s still very gusty and well below freezing so definitely a stopping in with a bottle of red sort of night.
  19. Some pretty bright colours showing in that line of showers and they are still piling in of the North Sea.
  20. After a brief lull it’s back to white out conditions here again now.
  21. I don’t think a can ever remember seeing snow as heavy as we’re having here at the moment. visibility is probably less than 50 metres and in less than 10 minutes it’s put over an inch down. pretty amazing really and plenty more showers lining up across to the east.
  22. Yeah it looks pretty certain we’ll be playing each other in the EPL again next year.
  23. Reminds me of the days when we had to watch MOTD just to see football. then for better or worse along came Sky.
