  1. Maybe the hotter than a hot thing heatwave that they are all craving is getting on top of them a bit now. what they need is a good old NW region cloudy spell to cool them down a bit.
  2. This mornings forecast said NW England would see the best of the sunshine today with more cloud on Sunday. after today’s letdown of wall to wall cloud, occasional drizzle and a max temperature of 17c I just hope to god they got it the wrong way round.
  3. Damp cloudy start but the suns coming through again. after yesterdays blip, the return of summer?
  4. Get today out of the way and hopefully several dry and warm days to follow. summer 2018, the gift that keeps on giving.
  5. I hope me being as far east in the North West means my summer carries on. its not often I want to live in Yorkshire but........
  6. Not much rain today but after it looked like brightening up late afternoon it’s a bit heavier at the moment. currently 15c and with a maximum of only 16c one of the lowest temperatures of the summer so far. lets hope the dreaded SE/NW split isn’t about to set up with us looking on tearfully while the summer carries on darn sarf.
  7. Well that lot should put a bit of green back into the grass around these parts.
  8. Same here, we’ve lived in this house for 22 years and the lawns are browner than i’ve ever seen them. heavy showers both Thursday and Friday mornings put down about 5mm of rain between them but it’s hardly made any difference and with today’s heat, the grass has probably dried out even more. i don’t want an end to this fantastic summer but some decent rain would be welcome.
  9. Heavyish shower first thing this morning and I pretty sure our first rain here since 16th June but probably only enough to put a 24 hour halt to the grass browning and nothing to bring the green back. back to cloud with bits of sun and humid since.
  10. Plenty of overcast but nowt from it although i’m sure I saw a spot of rain on the windscreen on the way home from work. its certainly coming to something though when we’re getting excited about the chance of rain but the gardens need it.
  11. Grass fire completely closed the southbound A56 Accrington bypass, a few miles away but maybe that’s where the smell of burning here is coming from.
  12. A few threatening looking clouds over the Pennines this afternoon but another day of wall to wall sunshine, no rain and a 27c + temperature. it’s a bit hazy now though and the air air is full of the stench of burning so there must be a fire somewhere locally.
  13. Selfishly i’m glad it’s a south easterly wind otherwise default setting and that lot would be over here.
  14. Small grass fire just up the hill from us has left the house stinking of smoke thankfully it didn’t take long for the fire engines to arrive and put the damn thing out.
  15. Almost 350 firefighters from across the north are now involved in fighting the fires on Winter Hill and Saddleworth Moor and it looks like the Army may be brought in to help with the Winter Hill fire. just hope to god that there aren’t any more incidents until these are brought fully under control although somehow I think it’s going to get worse before it gets better.
  16. Just under 27c here now so could be looking at 30c max later this afternoon which would be the third time this week, truly exceptional conditions for my part of the region and altitude. other than that though fantastic conditions although the dryness is getting worrying and we’re probably looking at the last couple of days before the hosepipe ban comes in.
  17. Cloudy start up here with, dare I say it a coolish breeze but here comes the sun.
  18. Whatever they thought it would do, it didn’t as what used to be a surface of clippings is now a black oily mess. it’ll teach Lancs CC not to buy road surfacing materials from pound shops. at least it got shut of all the grit left from last winter when it was obviously to cold to venture out.
  19. More gritter activity on the main road past our house today than on most days last winter.
  20. According to United Utilities, reservoir levels in the Pennines are about 60%, not desperately low but down on an average year and given the forecast of more warm weather and little sign of rain i’d Imagine a hosepipe ban could be on the cards for North West England later in the summer. still a far cry from 1976, 1984 and 1995 though.
  21. Nice bit of self correction there but I think we all knew what you meant no smoke from the fire here but you can see it to the south of us and a friend in St Helens has just asked if it’s as bad here as it is over there.
  22. 30c on the car on the way home and currently 28c up here in the hills. summer 2018, the gift that keeps on giving.
  23. Yes and both ended with an easterly although if my memory serves me correctly, the February one was a bit on the coolish side. fantastic days weather today, for those like me who like it warm and sunny. Just finished after a full day working in the garden fitting decking and my back is certainly feeling it now along with a sunburned neck although that’s my fault for once again underestimating the strength of the sun at this time of year.
