  1. I don’t know what set up would give us that amount of snow but 125mm of rain fell here in the hours leading up to the 2015 Boxing Day floods so using the standard conversion rate that would give us snow at least a metre deep.
  2. And here. There were cars completely buried in the lane up from our house.
  3. Rain with a hint of sleet this morning and a short spell of back edge snow before the clearance to bright sunshine this afternoon. I’ll file that one in the downgrade tray although it’s getting full now so think I need a larger tray. in the meantime I better get the shovel out and clear the latest fall of potential off the drive before tomorrow’s lot arrives.
  4. Interesting days weather coming up dependent on which of the models you look at. could be snowy, could be heavy snow. on the other hand it could be rain or even a mainly dry day. my heart says heavy driving snow with blizzard conditions, my head says a bit of sleet and cold rain with dry spells in between.
  5. Well it didn’t take long for most of last nights snow to become slush and then disappear. not a bad effort while it lasted though, just a shame that tomorrow’s event is looking to go the shape of the pear for most of us.
  6. Doesn’t seem to have been anymore overnight but at least the 2-3 inches we had has remained. all eyes on tonight and Tuesday now.
  7. Drove up it myself about 1 hour ago and it was atrocious, completely covered and practically whiteout conditions. TBH i’m suprised it’s still open, few local roads are closed.
  8. Yeah it’s still coming down heavy and must now be at least a couple of inches deep. after weeks of disappointments it’s nice to see a decent fall of snow finally come off.
  9. It looks like attack of the blob part 2 the sausage has my name on it, heavy snow again.
  10. Hope you all enjoyed your blob, i’ve just spent what seemed like a lifetime driving through the worst of it up the M66. it would have been slightly quicker but for the Range Rover owner who obviously didn’t realise that amongst the benefits of your 100k outlay is an ability to actually drive above walking pace in snow. home now though and for once there looks to be more snow in Bury than Bacup.
  11. Loosing track of all the Met O warnings now, especially as they all show a variance on the same theme. As it stands i know i’m not in today’s, I am in Sunday’s and frustratingly i’m just to far south of Monday’s which is a shame because that one looks the most potent and likely to deliver. lets hope that the southerly correction that seems to have been the default all winter does the same again. Not being greedy, another 80 miles or so and all of the region would join in the fun.
  12. At 2c this morning it was snowing, at 2.5c now it is all rain without even a bit of sleet. oh the joy of the north west’s most common import, the mild sector
  13. That’s back in the day when we used to get snow. i think i’d struggle to make anything from what we’ve got on the ground now unless I put it in a glass, stick some red dye in it and sell it as strawberry slush. usual irony is that if the amount of rain that has fallen in the last couple of hours had been snow we’d have had the heaviest fall for several years but it wasn’t and the roads were like rivers. all eyes on tomorrow.
  14. Yeah and it’s proper snow, crunchy under food and not that soggy wet crap we’ve endured most of the winter. srill coming down as well.
  15. First one from me. it’s not snowing, first time have said that since first thing this morning when i woke up and it wasn’t snowing. it probably won’t snow tomorrow either but Sunday is going to see the heaviest snow of the winter IMBY, guaranteed to happen as on Sunday I’ll be in someone’s else’s back yard where they get even less no snow than I do.
  16. True, we don’t usually get anything from a NW here other than bright sunshine.
  17. Spent a lot of time on there myself and it can be a damn cold place. it had a Lancashire League game called off in late April 1981 when the snow was drifted 5 feet deep outside the ground.
  18. Thank god i wasn’t expecting waking up to anything other than rain and wet ground. oh well there’s always the next time.
  19. Even altitude doesn’t seem to matter this winter. Everything has been just too marginal and even then, spoilers have usually turned up at the last minute.
  20. In fairness we’ve had a bit of cover on the higher parts around the valley for much of this week and on a few occasions back in January but the amounts have been minimum and even a decent altitude like mine has seen little snow considering the potential which has been on offer. One positive is that winter hangs on in these parts so you never know, if a few things fall into place you may see the ELR under snow. BTW is the gala weekend the one with the Harry Potter train on show.
  21. Just being a realist and until I get my first upgrade to an event this winter i’ll remain tough to please. oh and it’s been a long crap day at work.
  22. Possibly a dusting of snow in the morning but i’m not getting my hopes up of seeing anything more than irritating ice on the windscreen and doors which are frozen shut. then we’ve got the chance of a bit of sleet on Saturday, a bit more possible on Sunday and then it’s all eyes on Tuesday’s event which no doubt will either go to our north, to our south, fizzle before it reaches us or will swiftly follow the mild sector and we’ll get torrential sleet..........and this was widely publicised as the coldest spell of winter 2017-18. roll on summer with its usual north south divide of 18c and cloudy here and 28c and sunshine darn sarf. I’d still take it over what 2018 has thrown at us so far.
  23. The town and valley always look their best in snow conditions. Also nice to see the spire at the former St Saviours through the trees, what a waste of a beautiful building.
  24. Radar showed a band of precipitation crossing me a around 5am but there's nothing at all on the ground or cars from it. completely bone dry outside so let’s hope we’ve more luck from the main band later this morning.
