  1. Official audit May '23: less than one in four claimants receive a payout. And one in five local authorities reject at least 90 per cent of claims.
  2. Hardly any. Councils aint interested in paying out claims. If they sorted potholes in the Summer then Winter frost riving wouldnt make potholes worse.
  3. Hmm...my council tax is now at £200/month; 10 years ago, £120? Maybe if councils spent their money more wisely? Gold plated pensions and early retirement schemes still in place though? Even if a council makes a dreadful investment decision the UK taxpayer still bails it out. Their pension schemes can suffer from wrong investment decisions BUT any shortfall is propped up by UK taxpayers. There's a lot more to council spending/resources than just potholes. Weather - torrential rain set in here now; high winds due late morn/lunchtime, here.
  4. 13c, light rain, heavy stuff has passed through. Not particularly windy. When is the Storm meant to arrive?
  5. English Channel shipping every week is equiv to a whole year's car useage in the UK by everyone. Waste of time trying to curb, and vast maj of UK pop would whinge if revenue starved the NHS and welfare state. There is NO plan. Carry on.
  6. I did say "Not too bad here this morn" - the clue's in the word "morn". And in the context of last few weeks that's what it is
  7. Not too bad here this morn. 17c, fairly cloudy but sun trying to poke through. Showers forecast this afters.
  8. The dreadful wet weather now causing sewage issues at a large number of beaches in the South West, incl popular summer vacation ones. Sewage overflows in 'operation' as normal sewage pipes cannot cope. Yuk
  9. That would be nice. Fam around, kids playing in the garden, doors & windows open, letting in plenty of fresh air. Better than house rammed, with little ventilation and peeps getting in the way of each other at times. Bring on a very mild, dry Christmas.
  10. 17c, almost black sky and it's hammering down. August has decided to go back in time to this July. What a contrast to yesterday. Edit: Monsoon-like rain.
  11. Decent 1st day of August. Sunny with a few clouds, 21c, breezy.
  12. We'll be down there for 2 weeks end Aug/early Sept. Been weather watching for there the last few days and u've had the absolute perfect weather. That's the great thing about the Algarve is the Atlantic breeze; normally much less humidity than mainland Spain.
  13. And he said that July has been wetter and cooler than average for the UK - but we know that anyway.
  14. 16c, grey, raining steadily and by looks of the radar we're prob stuck under this for the afters. I can tell how crap a July it's been because i'm having yet another Sunday roast in July; one of the positives of a crap weather Sunday in mid-Summer.
  15. Dont get yer hopes up for more settled warmer weather for w/c 7 Aug, as i've just booked a hotel on The English Riviera for a few days
  16. Very rarely fails, year after year; it's called Weather Expectation management. UK = Maritime temperate climate. Mild, wettish Winters. Warm(ish) Summers. Occasional cold incursions in Winter; occasional v warm or hot spells in Summer. Independent Isles that are at the mercy of the Gulf stream and the Atlantic. Trying to predict our weather, weeks or months in advance, is a fools game, based on trends, teleconnections, what's happening in the Pacific or otherwise. Fawning over individuals on internet forums is even more foolish than a fools game. Dont believe the hype or the (internet) 'heroes'.
  17. Hi A I think Matt Hugo is the only Pro on here these days and i must admit his posts have been insightful and to be fair to him his 'tone of voice' has been one of "i hold my hands up for not quite getting things correct" in his posts, as well as explaining where things havent quite worked out, as expected. John Holmes is an ex-pro but always states he looks no more than 14 days ahead. And Nick F, NW's senior forecaster, not sure if he's a pro?
  18. Met Office official response: As far as we’re concerned in the Met Office, the paper is far too simplistic,” said Richard Betts, the Head of the Climate Impacts at the Met Office Hadley Centre. He added: “There’s still no evidence that we’re kind of past the point of no return in terms of devastating impacts. “On the basis of one paper, don’t despair.”
  19. That actually sums up my locality, for July and a few days ago we were below average July temps as well.
  20. 20c here, fairly cloudy at the mo, but it's blowing a hoolie.
