  1. Oh well it really does look as though we are back to our standard winter systems now, shame I was hoping for a bit more cold, I do understand still February to go but I can't seen a return to the cold at the end of last year. Here's to next Novemeber/December.
  2. Â The thunderstorm over Camborne woke me up just before 7am, lasted 20-25mins and a couple of strikes were directly above where I was. Quite spectacular stuff something I've never experienced before. Edit Just had another bout of Thundersnow between 10.00am and 10.20am.
  3. Very disappointing to be honest. I know I live in the far South West and we are not supposed to get snow, but I did have high hopes with all the fantastically cold temperatures just 100 miles up the road. One day of snow to 1cm doesn't really cut it. The only real thing I can say is that the Winter of 2010 was an event worth watching but as I can remember a 6ft drift in the early 1980s I guess global warming is true.
  4. The temperature gauge in my car driving to work this morning registered 14C, truely balmy at the moment, however it's probably not the most accurate instrument out there. This is following the pattern for the Winter of 1946/47 almost exactly. A snowy start to January, then an unusually warm period in the middle, then from the 20th onwards some of the worst snow conditions every experienced in the UK. Dare I dream similar occurs this winter?
  5. Well the thaw is well and truly in now, and I know I'm fantasizing a bit, back in the winter of 1946/47, it snowed in early January then by the 14th of January it was almost tropical, one week later the whole country started to have the greatest snow fall for 200 years. Could it possibly happen again? Bloody hope so
  6. I'm at work in Truro at the moment and it's really raining very hard at the moment with just the odd bit of sleet. I guess as this moves further east then it's going to be great for a nice whiteout, just a darn shame we down in the far west are going to miss out on this.
  7. I'm just seeing rain now. This snow wishing lark is getting on my ***s now. Bring on Spring so I can forget about wishful thinking.
  8. WeatherNewbie, your Met Office prediction is spot on. They are a joke to be honest.
  9. It's now overcast, grey, 6C, and raining, back to a normal typical Winter. Never mind.
  10. Typical, you "up country folk" have 10 minutes of heavy snow and it is greater than the continuous 9 hours of pathetically light snow we had all day Sunday.
  11. It's been snowing consistently for hours now in the far South West but the total accumulation would be lucky to fill a thimble. It's the most pathetically weak snowfall I have ever seen and it looks like the mild weather will now come in. On the optimistic side I did read the opening paragraph of the Chapter "The Snowiest Winter 1947" from the book "Frozen In Time - The Years When Britain Shivered". It read "There have been colder winters than 1947 - though not many- but no winter since records began has ever been as snowy. It began gently enough. There had been snowfalls before Christmas and again in early January 1947, but both had melted away within days and by the middle of the month, the temperature was unseasonably warm......The weather then turned colder again on January 20....." So seeing as we still aren't at the middle of the month yet, who knows how much of a proper winter is still to come.
  12. At last the real snow that everyone else has been having has arrived in west Cornwall this morning.
  13. I'm just so jealous now. The whole country has had decent snowfall and all we have had in West Cornwall is a brief dusting. Just what needs to happen for a decent dumping down this far west?
  14. Started to snow again in West Cornwall but its very fine powdery stuff. I'm hoping that the serious stuff will arrive, the rader looks good for the far west at the moment.
  15. It's been snowing on and off this evening in the far west but nothing that leads me to believe we will get a nice dumping. I bet we are going to miss out on all the fun while the rest of the country gets a right good load of snow.
  16. Not a single blimming flake down in the far west. This is so annoying. I really thought we would have our first decent dump of snow today but alas not to be.
  17. It's -1C at the moment down in the far west and I've just checked the radar and there is a nice green blob over the Lizard moving North, I know nothing is forecast for this far west but I've got my fingers crossed for a bit of action. We have just had snow flurries for the last four or five days and I'm waiting for a nice big dump of thw white stuff. I suspect I'll have to wait until February. but hey ho it's nearly Christmas so you've got to have your fingers crossed.
  18. Having all sorts in West Cornwall at the moment, mainly drizzle now but we have had sleet and some slight snow. Maybe as the it get colder today there is an outside chance of a dusting of snow this evening.
  19. Just had a look out my window here in Camborne, West Cornwall and it is actually snowing. Didn't expect it at all. Not sure how long it will last though.
  20. I'll report any Wintry weather down in West Cornwall. Not hopeful for this event but hopefully some more events to come this winter.
  21. Am I correct in that this season there has been snow lying somewhere in the UK during the following months: October, November, December, January, February, March. If so when was the last time this happened?
  22. Bit downhearted now, I hear of all the snow events in the South West, but what they really mean is not the far South West, Devon is as far west that it is snowing now. Had some great snow on Monday, but after laying for 36 hours the rain came in and washed it all away. I'm hoping that that is not the last of it for us down here as we are really starved of proper winters, and what with Winter 08/09 actually looking like being a proper Winter for the rest of the country it is a shame to miss out again.

  24. Just had an hour of moderate snow where I live in West Cornwall and looking at the radar there is movement coming in from the West just off Lands End. Isles of Scilly have now had two days of snow running which is some kind of record
  25. That is quite amazing for the Isles of Scilly, they have had two days of lying snow, not sure if that has ever happened before.
