  1. Not far off, I'd say maybe 9.30pm onwards for a shower or two in the Glasgow area.
  2. The suns out here now and the temperature is rising pretty fast causing a bit of melt 1.9c/-2.4c. So much potential for heavy snow today with a lot of shower activity building in the North Sea.
  3. Heavy snow here for the last 20 minutes giving a nice covering 1.0c/-1.8c.
  4. New weather warning that includes many parts of eastern and central Scotland. I like the sound of snow showers becoming aligned into bands:- Snow showers will affect eastern and northern parts of Scotland, northern England and the northeast Midlands during Sunday and overnight into Monday, although only temporary accumulations of snow are likely during daylight hours on road surfaces. Accumulations of snow will be very variable during Sunday night, as the showers are expected to become aligned into bands, with some places seeing 2-5 cm of snow and possibly as much as 10 cm over east facing slopes by Monday morning. Lying snow will drift in the fresh to strong north-easterly winds.
  5. Steady rain here in a moderate sse wind but I can see that its has turned to sleet up on the hill to my north and there is chance of me getting a little back edge sleet or wet snow from this band as it sinks west. Air temperature is 4.5c with a dew point of 2.1c and the upper air temp should be around -2c and gradually falling.
  6. If the GFS 12z verified Scotland would be buried in snow during March.
  7. It did look as though the GFS 0z went off on one looking at the ensembles and the 06z should be showing an output more in line with the ECM, although you can never tell when the GFS has picked up a new trend or just lost the plot.
  8. A light snow flurry. Not much to shout about but good to see all the same 0.3c/-2.4c. It's looks like the very light snow showers drifting across the central belt are intensifying a little.
  9. Some changes showing on this run. Looks like the dams going to break and cold to the north will flood south.
  10. Interesting little trough moving into South East Scotland on Saturday. Could extend out some light snow across a few parts of central and southern Scotland with NE England looking best placed for some more moderate snow from it.
  11. The last two days have been great for me weather wise with cold, clear and frosty mornings followed by late winter sunshine and then rapidly dropping temperatures in the evening. Last night got down to -4.2c but with the cloud starting to roll in from the east it's unlikely to get much below freezing tonight although the temperature is dropping fairly quickly just now 4.2c/1.7c.
  12. My lowest temperature of the winter has only been -5.2c. I think it could go close tonight. Currently -0.3c/-2.3c.
  13. ECM looks excellent for snow in Scotland but not so good for SE England. I expect panic will now ensue on the model thread.
  14. A big thaw for me today but have managed to keep more than 50% cover 5.8c/4.5c.
  15. ITheres actually still a good cover in most places but more so as you head towards the campsies. I'm on the road to strathblane and it's lying quite thick on on the road at parts. My temperature is back down to 1.9c with the dew point at 1.0c still heavy rain but it feels like its threatening to turn back to sleet.
  16. Pouring rain all the way back from Glasgow. Car thermometer temperatures dropped relative to the amount of lying snow - 5c Glasgow city centre, 3.5c bishopbriggs, 3c Kirkintilloch and 2c in Campsie. I'm really surprised how much snow I still have lying - comfortably 10cm. Exact temp now 2.2c/1.3c and lashing down.
  17. I see that the temperature at Glasgow airport has dropped 1c in the last hour. Interesting.
  18. Left Campsie at 7 and there was 4cm of powder snow and it was still snowing moderately. It's still snowing and getting heavier just now in Glasgow city centre and will be around 2c warmer here so interested to find out what depth it is back home.
  19. A good healthy covering and still snowing although light at the moment. The front is certainly not zipping through and at least the cold is putting up a fight on this occasion. Temperatures still favourable for some more snow 0.2c/-1.3c.
  20. Model agreement is building around a more settled period of weather with temperatures steadily falling next week and more likelihood of frost and fog. Things are definitely moving in the right direction for more deep cold than we have seen so far this winter. Still far from certain but another step forward this morning.
  21. The problem this winter has been a lack of deep cold with weather patterns far to mobile and when our weather is mobile it's Atlantic dominated. The result has been a lack of snow for many lowland areas. I also think we were spoiled in 2009 and 2010 when there were a lot of upgraded snow events and we got used to this. I've now gone back to my old method of forecasting when snow is on the agenda which is, if something can go wrong it probably will. Having said that there is still time for a taste of winter over the next month or so but I think things just need to settle down a bit, get a few frosts in and then it will happen. As for Wednesday, it still looks ok for a few hours of heavy snow for quite a few of us and I'd take that. There will be a bit of cold at the surface, 2m temps actually look cold through to the afternoon and if the block can put up a bit of a fight for a change some of the snow starved areas might see a bt of lying snow which has been rare this winter.
  22. Snow getting a bit heavier but struggling to lie 2.4c/1.0c.
