  1. Very muggy now after earlier shower, gone very dark again and heavy rain just started.God i love this type of weather
  2. just had the one to your north ,it was a good storm lots of thunder ,very heavy rain and marrowfat pea size hail
  3. Thank you for the great forecast ,some of the best storms ive seen can come from heat 30c plus. Also could be many wild fires with the ground allready so dry,but personally i love hot weather it just seems to bring the UK to life with such a positive vibe.
  4. If only time machines where avaliable to rent out, this is the event i would love to see in the beautiful Devon countryside. Anyway back to reality and Feb 1991 when living in Essex is the one that stands out ,bitter cold -4c maxes and 3 days of powder snow.Funny though even though it was deep (13 inches) everyone who i worked with still managed to get to work ,not like these days lol.
  5. same here mate it was like a desert during the november easterly, and the snow that came up from the south 2 weeks ago on the saturday stopped 5 miles south of here ,of all the places ive lived this is the worst for snow lol
  6. The monday night / tues possible snow could be great for our region ,but im not getting my hopes up till it actually snows. These stalling front situations are tricky and do tend to trend back west up to the event.Who remembers Feb 1996 when all the forecasts had the front stalling over the eastern half of the uk ,in the end it just about reached northants and all we could do was watch wales and the west mids up to lake district getting hammered by 2 days of heavy snow
  7. Cold Temp wise last winter was impressive but snow fall was very dissapointing apart from the evening of 21st dec 2009 when we had 2 inches. It was amazing to see snow on the radar going around, dissapearing or grinding to a halt thus avoiding this location so many times. However Feb 2009 was very snowy due to the mild air from the south west trying to displace the cold resulting in 4 significant snow events.I think the lack of elevation plays a part here, its suprising how just even 150ft asl can make a huge difference with snow. Would like to see a nationwide snow event this winter maybe a frontal battle ground, undercutting low and or a proper easterly Feb 1991 style, lets hope the winters are trending colder and may everybody see a good dump lol.
  8. Went outside to put the guinea pigs back in the cage, but went back in to get the camera instead.
  9. Thank you, just looked on net and yes there are a few examples with the same effect, no need to worry about alien abduction anymore.
  10. Hi all, anybody know what this moth is called? Picture was taken on 19 June 2010,i guess because it was cold that day the moth was a dopey thus was easy to catch and picture.Sorry about large picture size having a nightmare trying to re size my pictures.Just copy and paste then view in windows to see the wing span compared to the tape measure.
  11. On the subject of strange lights anybody know what the three coloured pinpoints of light are on this lightning pic that ive drawn around?.Went out one evening in summer 2008 to capture this storm moving away and noticed this after putting them on the pc.
  12. Simple LOL i would like to reverse the earths rotation, so prevailing wind is from the east, hot summers and bitter winters.
  13. Well if it does reach double figures next week, it will feel tropical. Just amazing that the last time any widespread mild was present over the UK it was early Dec. Never thought id say this but im also sick of freezing everytime i go in the garden. The kids really need to get outside and have some fun too but have been plauged since christmas with coughs and colds.Have really enjoyed the snow even though we didnt get much !,but really this winter needs to be put out of its misery with a good old blast from the atlantic, yes it may rain but at least the weather will be more mobile and a bit more exciting.
  14. Hung the washing out today with frost in the shade all day,and by 17:00 it was bone dry ! just shows how dry the air is.
  15. rain here is turning sleety, anybody else confirm sleet or is it my imagination lol
  16. Fantastic post ,explained very well, and yes with models forecasting atlantic zonal patterns, its just a case of when will it rain not if it will rain. But with blocking the differences from slight changes are huge and more likely to be remembered when snow is forecast and then downgrades towards the reliable time frame.
  17. wait till the snow here gets to you its freakish !! never seen flakes so big
  18. yeeeaaargggeee massive flakes !!!! finally some heavy snow this winter
  19. The GFS 18z has great potential for us,all we need is a slight trend south or east from one of those lows then its game on,as yesterdays event showed the rain turned to very heavy snow here at 16:00,but by then the front had pretty much moved too far north.
  20. yes me too, makes me look at my own kids and feel very lucky.
  21. I wonder if thats the continental surface flow starting to undercut the band thats bringing the temps down ,good to hear of snow reports further east
