  1. Lovely morning went downhill to rain by 18:00 Although it is Weybridge, not North Norfolk
  2. You boys down south seem to have done quite well this weekend. Been quite nice here today, lovely morning followed by cloudy afternoon with intermittent spots of rain, enough to wet grass, but not concrete. Following on from my "Why keep Bees" post of a couple of days ago, last yar I helped a new bee keeper set up by splitting one of my hives to get him going. I saw him Saturday morning, before the "Hole in the suit" debacle and mentioned that acouple of my colonies had died. Today I get a call, the one I gave him last year has swarmed and he needs a home for them. Picked them up, run them in the hive, good swarm, job done p.s. David Coultard can take back the "Square Jaw" Crown, but my right eye looks as though my wife hit me, so puffy, it's almost closed.....
  3. Sun was out by the time I emerged at 7:50, has a slightly misty quality about it but looks and feels great out there. Have a good day all, speak to you after this afternoons showers.....
  4. You're luck, I thought I spoke english, but apparently comes out gibberish.... Wierd weather here, was cloudy to 7:00 then had some late afternoon sun, now an almost cloudless sky, not what I expected at all (wind is still cold though) p.s. can't answer your question
  5. Very Breezy and felt bl**dy cold in Great Yarmouth. been home an hour with some cloud about, but all the rain on the radar well West of here
  6. Looks a potent batch of showers moving through with you now, After a short sharp shower here, the sun is in the sky, hazy but it's there. However I stepped into the wind and it's pretty keen. Radar shows some clag/drizzle South of me, hoping it will skip past Yarmouth, but I'll take a coat, just in case
  7. Hi Milly, Luckily for me, I don't get any nasty reactions, the usual swelling, but now look a bit like a hamster with a full pouch rather than the square jaw look, but the sting on the skull is still really hurts, I think skin is so tight on your head that anything that stretches it is very noticable. I'd never been stung by anything until I kept bees, I have now.....
  8. Just had some showers come through here, can't see anything else on the horizon, so off to Yarmouth today. Chillijuju, your comment "However, there are far more many members who DON'T post in this thread at all because they have been made to feel uncomfortable by the overriding display from the small group who dominate this thread." I'm certainly not one of those who dominate the thread and am unlikely to ever be. But I for one enjoy the banter that happens on the thread, much is weather related, the occasional one that isn't (to me at least) is par for the course, why not try to join in?
  9. When the sun was hidden by clouds I felt I needed to hide indoors, been out in the open a lot today and I have one of those 'properly tired' evenings, but done some good work (and had some 'fun' as documented above. Another day off tomorrow, so taking the granddaughter to the Sea Life centre at Yarmouth, so hoping the rain will hold off until late. Brandon's not bad, bit flat there for my liking, but at least you are not (quite) in the Fens. Bit hiilier in my neck of the woods, highest point in Norfolk is 3 miles away and is between me and the coast, so it's "Up and Down" if I'm heading to Cromer or Sheringham
  10. Why keep bees? Well, there's a nice feeling to getting your own honey, but unless you keep lots of hives, you will not make much money, so you do it as a relaxing hobby -- until, on the first serious hive opening of the year you find there's a hole in your bee suit. I think the total count is 18 stings including one really painful one on the skull, apart from a couple of stings on my right wrist, the majority are around my neck and chin. As they say that bee stings are really good for arthritis, I should be able to talk to the day I die :winky: Currently I's give David Coultard a run for the money in terms of a square jaw profile Only opened the bees as the weather was just cool enough to stop them getting really stroppy -- wrong, the hole (in the crotch of all places) meant that several bees just walked up my trousers and shirt and stung me on the upper chest and chin. (At least the shirt was tucked in That's the second time that when opening a hive the little beggers have found a hole in the suit I didn't know was there, there's nothing more frightening than eyeballing a bee INSIDE the veil. Ho hum, the good news was no queen cells and plenty of brood The cool weather looks like getting cold and miserable tomorrow
  11. Morning all, Hope today is better than yesterday, it didn't get above 9.5 with a cool/cold North Easterly until after dark when, perversely, it felt warmer than during the day because the wind wasn't draining the heat from you. Seen more sun so far than all of yesterday, so I live in hope. But it looks all downhill tomorrow, although us in the North should miss the worst of the rain, but back to a nasty NE wind ps AS, you know how to make someone jealous, looks lovely -- although you did sound like Jax for a few moments http:////d321955.r.worldssl.net/forum//public/style_emoticons/default/wink.png
  12. Hope you are going where the weather is going to be good. Thanks as ever for the work and effort you put in, enjoy your break and don't worry about us, as the saying goes "Absence makes the heart grow fonder" and we're all fond of you already
  13. Hi John, any signs of extra stress on the American (North and South) West coast faults? The Chilean quake of a couple of weeks ago must have redistributed a lot of strain along the faults
  14. This is one of the reasons I love looking at this thread. We have some fun, some great analysis (the usual suspects) and rarely get upset. Weather wise (staying on topic ) been a lovely day in Weybridge, but cold at home out of the sun, mind you not that warm in the shade here. Looking forward to a long weekend after a drive that you can guarantee will last an age as I go home on Thursday pm
  15. Good comments there Captain, goes to show that there is a huge variety on what's possible within a couple of weeks
  16. still horribly murky here, with the temp only 11.1 which IS chilly Gardening -- damn have to do some soon
  17. 13.5 here, feels colder after a miserable day yesterday. Sun trying and failing to put in an appearance
  18. Dank is the best word I can use to describe it here, I don't think anywhere East of the Meridian will get anything worthwhile, may rain but I doubt even that
  19. And here, Air has that "milky" summer feel to it, temperature a surprisingly warm feeling 8.3
  20. Had a lightning bolt hit the wingtip of a plane I was on about 12 years ago, and I was looking out of the window at the time, bloody hell it was bright, not a huge amount of noise made it into the cabin, but it was instantaneous. great fun Evening captain, looks like the Triangle was the triangle because you were there..... Seems to be something heading there now.....and avoiding Saffron Walden Still avoiding me as well though
  21. for the moment at least I think you will be unlucky on the T&L front. I think everything seems to be about 50 miles East of the BBC forecast this morning. Doubt if we'll get much here either, cloud too hick for any convective activity
  22. Looks like you'll get some soon whether you want it or not, radar shows rain just south of you
  23. Ahh, I wish. I think there's a slightly higher chance in Ippy than up here. The Beeb forecast this morning showed it tracking North, with most of it being West of us. Never mind, summers coming
  24. Cloudy but mild here with the temperature at 11.1C. Cloud looks pretty solid, making it more than a little dull. Yesterday was mild, bordering on warm, but hardly saw any sun. Looks like I may be on the edge of some sea fog for a good part of the week
