  1. Some snow left on the cars but rest has melted. Just not quite cold enough to stick.
  2. And it's back to light... Can confirm that the infamous Croydon Gritter has just gone past here - almost as exciting a sight as the snow itself
  3. Light snow here. On the look out for Ramkin's gritters These new LED lamp posts are much better for snow watch. I could see flakes on the one further down but nothing on the yellow one opposite. Getting heavier
  4. Just got rain here. Slight patchy covering this morning but could tell from some cars driving past that it must have settled more readily close by.
  5. Morning everyone. Part cloudy here and still pretty windy. No damage to note in the immediate vicinity, thankfully. Certainly quite a number of strong gusts throughout the night which woke me up. The back of my place is far noisier during storms due to the number of trees nearby. Even now, sat at the front, you can hear the odd gust but its pretty quiet. In the back bedroom it sounds like I'm in the middle of the apocalypse. Goes to show that those people who have a lot of trees near them will always find these storms far scarier and louder than those who don't. I don't remember 87 - I was 8, but was only interested in snow. I have memories before I went to bed (staying with Aunt and Uncle, and they were worried about my cousin being out with it being so windy, noise down chimney) and the next day - no school! power out, trees down around the town. Annoyed that I have no memory of what those kind of winds sound like. I slept through the whole thing! Anyway, hope everyone is safe and haven't suffered any bad damage. Have a lovely day!
  6. Not as bad here as it was. Still gusty but not as frequent nor as strong. Unless the direction has slightly changed which means it's not slamming straight into my home as it was. Might turn in as expected it was going to be worse around now.
  7. The direction the wind is coming from tonight means it's banging right on my windows. It's making some insane noises that I didn't even hear on the Christmas storm or October one. Can be a little unnerving. Bins are littering the road now but no other damage visible.
  8. Much windier than the other day here. Bins flying around, for sale signs down. Thankfully, no real damage or trees down.
  9. Big old gust here a few mins ago and that pushed me a few paces forward and took out a For Sale sign.
  10. Evening all. Hope everyone has had a nice week - despite the continued awful weather! I'm due to travel tomorrow to Manchester. What time are we looking at this weather hitting? Is it the early hours of the morning? are the winds likely to be worse than the other day? it didn't seem that bad here other than a bit gusty from time to time. Thanks Happy Friday!
  11. Hope we don't lose power - to be fair I've not known it from weather related causes here, but I have an alarm which beeps constantly until the powers back up. It drives me insane and I've no idea how to turn it off (forgotten the code!) It's a bit windy here but nothing 'bad' Fingers crossed this pattern changes. I can't believe how long we've been stuck in this firing line of horrid lows. Why can't we ever get stuck in a cold and snowy pattern!?? Although, do wonder if this had been snow if I'd be sick of it by now...what am I saying!? of course I wouldn't! I'd be the snowman king
  12. Morning! Chin up everyone. Maybe the pay off to all this endless rain will be an amazing summer? or even better, a very snowy winter next year? I was reading through a summary of UK winters last night (I'm still trying to find out what the deepest snow cover has been in Surrey has been) and there were lots of years where really heavy snow fell at the end of Feb - even March and April - and stuck around. Anything is possible really.
  13. When was the last snowless winter? I'm sure even in the evil 90's we still would get at least 1 slight dusting (obviously there's still time to get a dusting at least!)
  14. crazy amount of rain in a short period! the main road near me just flooded over. The drains are really struggling to cope. That was almost on par with the flash flood in July 2007
  15. A gust a few moments ago lead to me jumping up from the sofa and swearing loudly. Set a few car alarms off (the wind, not my swearing!)
  16. A tree has partially fallen on Croham Road. Personally, there's more damage so far today than there was from the St Jude Storm.
  17. Something woke me up! Pretty windy out there now but not too bad. Decided to have a sneaky cig outside and soon regretted it. Timed it during a big old gust which made me nervous so came straight back in! Massive puddles where drains are blocked. No visable damage, branches, trees that I can see yet.
  18. From Southern Trains Website: Extremely high winds are expected during the early morning of Monday 28th October. As a result, Network Rail has declared that there is a high risk of trees and debris falling onto railway lines and as a consequence, it may be unsafe to run trains while the winds persist. Therefore, Southern and Gatwick Express services will not run tomorrow morning until it has been declared safe to do so. Passengers are advised to check with National Rail Enquiries on 08457 48 49 50 or visit www.nationalrail.co.uk for up to date information as the morning progresses.
  19. I know some people are saying this is likely to be a normal autumn storm, for some areas, but I can't recall us having a storm at this time of year since 2000. That's 13 years back. I think, even if this does downgrade, and we have gales gusting to 40mph, there is still a risk of damage. Especially as we've not had a storm during this time of year with saturated ground and trees still in leaf. I guess everyone should still be cautious when travelling
  20. Just popping on from Australia to say... THIS IS NOT FAIR! I go away for a few months and look what happens. It just confirms what I've always known. snow hates me. Got my fingers crossed for you guys though!
  21. I'm going away for a few months at the start of next week. I can promise you that it will be snowiest period the SE has seen since records began.
