  1. I was in St Albans for the 2009 event and it wasn't as good there. Still 6" or so but it didn't kick in till really late and I had to spend that Sunday night watching what was going on in London on the news. When it hit, it hit hard and chucked it down but London had already seen 5 hours of heavy snow at that point. I don't think it was the streamer that caused our snow? For me, the Nov/Dec 2010 spell was far better. I was in Oxted and we, unusually, were in prime location. The convection kept building right over us and it went from that grainy snow to proper very heavy flakes. It just kept falling at the same rate and rapidly accumulated. I ended up with a little over a foot in the back garden. Best of all it was pretty much unexpected and I was like a little kid watching the intensity on the radar increase and expand. I guess that's now my new bench mark
  2. Shame it's been so marginal. I imagine if it had all fallen as snow and stuck then places would have seen very impressive depths. Hoping we see one last blast in the next 2 weeks before I jet off for a few months. As it stands this could be the last falling snow I see until next winter
  3. Around 4am the snow was pretty heavy and settled everywhere including pavements and roads. This morning that's all cleared and it's thawed a bit on the cars but the current falling snow has recovered those patches on the cars. The roads remain wet. I know it's annoyingly marginal again but not many winters do we get some falling and laying snow in Dec, Jan and Feb. A few years ago this would have been HUGE. I remember people proudly taking photos of their 1-2cm's a settled snow. How times change! (for the better!)
  4. big old flakes now. Don't even need a light to see these bad boys falling.
  5. Still seeing cars driving past with snow on them. It's almost like they are tormenting me. Nothing seems to be falling here now. Back to watching the amazing time lapses of the US snow storm.
  6. Sleet here but 2 cars went past covered in snow! I must be marginally too low! This annoys me!
  7. Randomly got off the train and realised there was snow on the cars. Nowhere else, just the cars. Hadn't seen anything fall so was a bit surprised. The further I got from the station the more the snow had covered - roofs, grass etc. Random
  8. back to rain. Been quite something further north and very localised in parts. Even just having a look on the traffic cams, you can go from massively snowy at one junction and nothing much at all at the next. Very much doubt we will see anything like that here - or at least in my part.
  9. Funny how it feels like the coldest day today - mainly because we now actually have wind blowing around. It's been so still recently and that might be why it's never felt as cold. Walking home tonight from that station was miserable! Hopefully we will be lucky and get more snow in Feb. If we don't, we don't. It's certainly been a different kind of cold spell this one and it's all the better for sharing it with everyone on here!
  10. I'm sure Mr Murr used the term 'Snowbomb' during the 2010 snow fall when the light snow falling over part of the SE suddenly exploded over head and produced constant heavy snow. The radars rapidly changed!
  11. Thought I'd take a peek at one of the radars. Must be false returns as apart from the odd few flakes nothing is falling and it makes it look like I'm under the same intensity as areas that are getting the heavy stuff!
  12. Nothing happening here but I don't think it was ever meant to. Nice to see some people getting another helping though!
  13. How much snow have you guys had there of late? Whenever I've looked at the radar (not often as I get too addicted!) you guys seem to have a red clump of showers over you!
  14. well Southern trains aren't doing well today. Cancelled loads from my station and the rest are massively delayed. Contemplating working from home instead of wasting time on a train platform. Thawing here slightly. Dropping off trees and cars.
  15. Don't think I'll get away with a snow day tomorrow. We need the snow to come down hard and fast for that and I can't see temps dropping so much that ice will cause issues with the trains. Think most people have crashed out over the exhausting snow weekend we've just had. Fingers crossed we get a few surprises this week and keep everything crossed that the less cold air keeps getting pushed back. It would be amazing if this time next week we are sat here still wondering when it'll end and buried in snow! (I want to get over the 1ft mark this winter!)
  16. Looks like that's pretty much it. 14 hours worth with a bonus burst for a couple of hours this evening. No idea what depth we have - somewhere between 10-15cm maybe a little more? A great day and pleasing it was so widespread.
  17. Are the Snow Gods listening to us at last? Just got a bit heavier again.
  18. still fairly moderate here. It's so still out there too which means the snow has caked all the trees. Love that
  19. I've noticed that other spots have also developed - just the norm or something else at work?
  20. Close up of the radar and there's been very slight intensification which is why I've got moderate snow suddenly.
  21. Wow, that was quite something. Went on for ages (in flashing terms!) must have been near Sanderstead/Purley. Didn't think it was thunder but wasn't quite sure what was causing that amount!
