Yet more rain here in west London, quite heavy, too. We did need some and I like heavy rain from time to time but it’s starting to get very monotonous. Would be good to get a period of high pressure soon, as Autumn sunshine, frosts, mists and fogs are beautiful.

Definitely wouldn’t say no to a bit of frost & fog, but frost seems to be the new snow.

They do release some very nasty gases, think they’re called hydrofluocarbons which work a bit like CO2 but much more potently. That’s obviously not good. The mobile units don’t, though and how many nights in an average UK summer would one need air conditioning, anyway? Would hardly be ‘hundreds of millions’ of units needed here. There are solar powered units available now and that technology is rapidly advancing.

interesting read in the Guardian today.

  3. The earth is undoubtedly warming at an alarming rate and to be honest I think that hundreds of millions of additional AC units would do huge environmental damage. Not only do they release harmful gases that damage the ozone layer but also the raw energy needed to run them 24/7 wouldn’t be great not to mention the artificial warming of towns and cities. Unfortunately everyone’s got to do their bit.

I think it is more to do with the fact that the biggest rain events have tended to not even cover this whole region, let alone the country so we have ended up with places seeing well below average rainfall whilst others have seen up to the double the average. No issues here, reservoirs full and everything is green as we have seen rain on and off after the near 48 hour rain event which came after the severe heat.

It was my sons first birthday yesterday and we celebrated with a family bbq. Perfect day for it with lots of sunshine, pleasantly warm and just a light breeze. Back to rain today though.

Just been on the Met office website having a look at 2018-19 rainfall averages compared to 1981-2010 average. Looks below normal for the south east to me but I’ll bow to your superior knowledge on this one.

I’m Gobsmacked at the Dry Posts , now  I’m not saying it’s not true but here it hasn’t stopped peeing down recently , I can hardly mow the lawn because it’s so waterlogged , what a difference a few miles make eh ,

    personally I want Plume 3

I think it’s more a culmination of the lack of rain over the past 2-3 years in the south east including in the winter rather than a few passing showers in summer that might make the ground a bit soggy. Definitely noticeable around here that ponds that are normally full of life are either bone dry or have a muddy puddle in the middle.

Hoping the predicted rainfall on Wednesday afternoon makes an appearance rather than fizzling out. Desperate here, everything looks as bad as this time last year.

It certainly is needed around these parts.

Local lake to us looks more like the Serengeti.

Another week draws to a close, touted again last week 'as average or below average' and yet again temperatures between 25c and 27c somewhere everyday!

Nothing I have seen  from the models suggests anything other than above average summer values again for parts of the South next week.

EPS certainly suggesting the south & south east will be at least a couple of degrees below average next week.

  8. Anyone would think it’s monsoon season the way the media are going on. Couple of hours of rain and a bit of wind Friday night & Saturday and then changeable next week with showers, sunshine & temps around average, where’s the news story for our region??

Largely dry today in the southeast after a wet start.

Another warm weekend coming up.. 28c possible somewhere Sunday..

This week has been fairly decent and pretty good summer weather...

I think we going to have a warm autumn with thunderstorms followed by a stormy above average winter in terms of temperature and rainfall

    Someone’s seen Two’s winter forecast

Should have reduced his '0' down in size me thinks  worrying all the same.

    It’s in Fahrenheit not Celsius

If you wanted to be really picky it isn’t the hottest earths ever been by a long stretch.  It should have read hottest since modern day readings.

  12. Last month was the hottest June ever recorded in Earth’s history, with temperatures nearly 20 degrees Fahrenheit above average. July looks like it’s on track to be the hottest month ever recorded, period.

This year overall is on pace to be the third hottest on record globally, according to Climate Central. Last year was the fourth warmest, behind 2016 (the warmest), 2015, and 2017.

Last year was also the very hottest year on record for the world’s oceans.
