  1. As much as I like snow and frost it is getting to the stage that everything nature wise is bursting so I do not want everything trashed. If we have snow now it is likely to be gone pretty quickly with all the resultant mess and hassle after an exciting dump of the white stuff.

I agree the weather is pretty boring at the moment.

    H

I can see where you are coming from but Feb is very much a winter month and traditionaly one of our snowiest, maybe as winter started early this year people think

we are now in spring but this is not the case.

I think the second half of feb could be below average or maybe very cold :cold: and IMO march is going to be well below the norm.

IF and it's a big IF the chart below comes off snow will be on the ground for many days :good:

  2. OK so its 1st of Feb and Murcieboys prediction is 100% verifying, 130 mile an hour winds and major destruction is on the cards :shok:

The only problem is its on the other side of the world in Australia

But joking apart if MB had come on here in November and predicted a destructive storm with 130 mile an hour winds would hit at this exact

time somewhere in the world that would be some prediction to come off.

Maybe he is on to something but just needs to tweet the data :good:

  3. Its been very cold here today. This morning at around 8am the temp was -1c. When i got back from the school run at 9.30am it was -3c!!

The cloud mostly cleared to leave some nice sunshine and temps got up to 1c.

Just had a little peek on meto and there is sleet forecast for tomorrow evening here.

Yes I noticed that aswell. left for work at 630 and it was about -1 on the van,got to work and it was -3 :cold:

Any other year this would be a decent cold spell, I think we now expect to much.

  4. Seems to be of been a big swing on the models towards cold tonight, ECM has a very cold Easterly developing from T+192 +. GFS has a Northerly beginning around the same timeframe too... Something to watch- it can easily change!

Anyway, from Tuesday onwards temperatures should return to the Janaury average, as HP builds in, leading to cool days and frosty nights (hopefully!) and hopefully plenty of sunshine around. The next few days look wet though and the Met have an advisory for heavy rain on Monday, possibly up to 30mm. Grass is quite saturated here at the moment.

How was skiing Ben, We had the most amazing air frost all week and the temp stayed around -4, plenty of snow on the ground but none from

    the sky.

  5. I will make sure to take pictures from snow-covered Europe and then hopefully some breath-taking shots when I'm actually in the Alps! Have a Happy New Year to you all, I hope everyone gets a decent amount of snowfall from Monday night- Tuesday's possible event!

Hi Ben, I to am off to the Alps (Thollon near lake Geneva) ive had reports that last week was +10 and all the snow in

the village melted :smiliz23: how do you think tuesday mornings snow will pan out for our area, I leave on Monday so will

    miss it, dam!!!!!!!!!!

  6. I would sum the month up by saying it's been good for the gardens (and our skin snowyowl19)

plus good for discussion on the net :whistling:

Not in the southeast mate, my garden is brown and the earth is bone dry. We have not had a decent

fall of rain in a couple of months and had mostly dry sunny days.

  7. i really like the first frosts, especially fern frost forming on the cars , can you imagine a snowfall in october, snowball fights in 9or10wks time, yeah! it is possible i remember a fall that early during oct 94or95or96 not sure but there was around 3inces maybe more, does anyone remember this in the SE? im sure it was october.

    Frosts,amazing sunsets, exciting atlantic developments.....yo!

:acute:I remember this snow event but cant put a date to it, we had 24 hours of lying snow in north beds & bucks maybe longer. If joe laminate floori is right

we could have another cold one to look forward to, maybe put some money on a white xmas.

    Why is it when I type Joe B a s t a r d i , another thing comes up ?

  8. Aye but we are seeing a transferration to La Nina conditions, which will cool down global temps, IMO the second half of 2010 will be noway as warm as the first half, which was under El Nino conditions (which did break down around April) . Bit hard to estimate the eventual strength of La Nina though. As for the Arctic ice, that rate of melt has slowed down considerably and we are now above 2007 levels.

Dont want to go off topic but this graph says we are below 2007 levels

  9. Dont want to put a downer on this new thread but we have just recorded the warmest ever first six months of the year globaly and ice cover

in the arctic is at a record low for the end of june, surely this cant help things.

I hope we get a winter as good as last year ?
