  1. Do you think the cold zonality will deliver for lowland North/West Scotland and England? Or will it be sleety pish? (Hills above 200 meters look to do well with the uppers forecast currently)
  2. Oooooft that is a bobby dazzler of an update for here! (Scotland) Surely the majority of the UK and Ireland will be building a snowman soon? Bring it onnnnnn! Yaaaaaassss!
  3. Now this is what I like to see!!! About bloody time!
  4. Never fear for I have found Winter lurking on the best model of them all...CFS! Lovely charts which I would sell my granny for and only at +402 hours...! Now that is the REAL DEAL!
  5. I feel more positive already Shuggee! Right so the pictures/video below are from 16th January last year...I am 100% certain every single member in here will see the same this Year... Lets get those snow tinted specs on folks because we are all going to be snowed in come the end of the month and beyond! Monnnnn theeeeee snoooooooowwwww!!!!!! 4605C4F7-40F9-4957-B552-0C87C91D607E.MOV
  6. I have an idea - let’s all push the UK and Ireland towards Scandinavia? They are always eating lobster while we munch on a mini tin of tuna.
  7. 8 degrees...drizzle...mist...PISH! This picture taken from my bedroom window today sums up Winter so far for me... Other picture for same view taken on a rare clearer day this Winter! Enjoy the rest of yer day!
  8. This Winter really has been rancid so far - I live in the West of Scotland and have seen about 100 flakes of snowfall. (All in one hour period) I have hills/mountains directly to my North/Northwest with good views from my windows and these have only had a cover for two days max. (Pictures attached from December 16th) I really do hope we are all not sitting here at the start of February posting the same stuff about the lack of snowfall anytime soon in the UK and Ireland. Surely late Winter/Early Spring will deliver the goods? Until then give me cold zonal all day long so I can at least get my fix! When we are talking about charts looking great for the Scottish ski resorts approaching mid January...that is when we all know it is getting desperate for us! Onwards and upwards - plenty of Winter/Spring left for some glorious snowfall for us all! Have a good day all! I’m off to trawl the CFS 9 monthly charts for snowmageddon and a hot Summer!
  9. Hold on...I thought yesterday I seen loads of posts in here saying the GFS is cannon fodder and a waste of time. It is the hunt for cold thread however so I like the thinking that if it shows what we want we can just sweep yesterday under the carpet and pretend no-one mentioned a thing...ssssshhhhhhh. (Suits me!) I’ll take this chart for a purely IMBY perspective - perfect flow for my location even if it is short lived.
  10. Not the best update - they seem to be backing off as the days pass. Hopefully it’s a pile of dung! Thankfully we live in Scotland which at least means we will always have a better chance of snow than the rest of the UK!
  11. Happy New Year all! Lovely Winters day ahead - at last! (pic below - frost on the hills for the first time in a wee while!) Charts look rubbish this morning - hopefully that will change shortly! This post from the main man in the Strat thread earlier has made me start to wonder if this is all going to go tits up for us! 51 minutes ago, chionomaniac said: I wonder am I the only one who isn't overly excited that the dynamics and downwelling of the SSW and subsequent split are not looking favourable for the UK? The split at 10hPA keeps the residual vortices over the Atlantic and Eurasian sector before rejoining and even with the strongest tilting that I can imagine, there is a strong possibility of some kind of westerly flow over our sector unless these daughters can 'do one' and bugger off elsewhere! Still early in the season though so plenty of time to go! Always frustrating watching all the cold/snow in Scandinavia every Winter while most of the time we get the crumbs! However - onwards and upwards! It is only January 2nd after all. Have a good day!
  12. This chart sums up 90% of my 9 years of Winters on Netweather... Good old UK and Ireland cold/snowshield in full effect. You have to laugh.
  13. Big Steve Murr’s negotiating model-biases posts are helping myself and others learn how to understand the ins and outs of certain model bias regarding Westwards/Eastwards movements. It is providing me a pathway to a better handle on reading/anticipating charts. I sense there is a bit of jealousy of Steve’s knowledge/understanding of the Weather on this forum from certain members...not including you Ed as I enjoy yer daily posts and thoughts. Anyways let’s all hope we all see snowfall in January - if not let’s all chip in some money and get a Netweather forum members trip to the Arctic circle sorted out!
  14. Ah the memories - greatest snowfall I have ever seen. (Pictures attached) What a Winter/Early Spring that was! This month has been one of the most boring and non eventful Winter months I can ever remember. Hopefully the Metoffice and folk in the know on here are onto something - if not I will live on the Cairngorms or Ben Nevis for the rest of the Winter. Have a good day everyone and Happy New Year when it comes!
  15. Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! Weather wise this has to been one of the most boring Winter months of all time and it is looking pretty dismal to the end of the month and beyond. Hopefully by mid January we start to see something snowy on the horizon! This picture was taken on 29/12/2017...take me back to that glorious Winter and early Spring 2018! Have a good day and fantastic New Year!
  16. It should be illEAGLE to post things like this first thing in the morning - be positive mate! We have so much to look forward to going into January - thrill of the chase and all that. Just try to NEST in for the remainder of the month and beyond - no point FLAPPING about over the models at the minute. I don’t think we will see much changes in the ECM or GFS output immediately. Let us PREY we start seeing some snowy charts within the next couple of weeks. Have a good day and I am sure you will be buzzing like an old fridge come mid January when once again something like this will hopefully be showing...we can but dream!
  17. The GFS and ECM are about as much use as a catflap on a submarine or jumping up and down on a concrete trampoline at the minute if you are looking for a hint of snowfall. We just all need to remain calm and composed for the remainder of the month - hopefully as we enter January we then see glorious UK and Ireland snow filled charts come into a reliable timeframe. Ah for it to be December 2010 again...this chart brings back all those snowy memories. Have a good day.
  18. Was just thinking the same - all is still. Sheer bliss - finally feeling very festive! Counting down the days/weeks until the next snowfall - hopefully this Winter is filled with countrywide snow events for us all! Cheers everyone - have a good night!
  19. Moved to a place called Ashton in July. (Gourock) I have been waiting on this view from my living room window ever since...Merry Christmas!
  20. In Loch Lomond at the minute - freezing rain is falling, ground starting to ice over. Pretty amazing to witness! Pitlochry looks the place to be though... http://www.pitlochrywebcam.co.uk/
  21. Morning all Hope everyone is well! That time of the year again when I dust off my old chestnuts and become active again on Netweather. Taking my 10 month old son to see Santa at Loch Lomond on Saturday...hopefully this forecast comes off for a festive setting! Looks as though Saturday could be a snowy day for quite a few folk in this thread! Very close to call at the moment but I see even Gourock is forecast for sleety pish on Saturday so inland should see some proper white stuff at times! Have a good day and hopefully this thread will be buzzing again soon like last Winter/early Spring! https://twitter.com/bbcweather/status/1072783128287240192?s=20
  22. Afternoon all Hope everyone is well! Absoutely stunning today (currently passing through Gourock) - lightest of breezes and clear blue skies with temps of 8 degrees! (Feels like 18 degrees after what we have been used to in recent months!) Almost shorts weather for us in Scotland! More of this weather please or another bout of heavy snow showers! Keep that dreary cloudy drizzly pish away which usually decends on us in Spring. Have a good one.
  23. Just had to quote you on this...Those of us who aspire to having a life to be able to get out and enjoy it? I have had a fantastic time outdoors every month since Winter began - numerous snowboarding adventures in the Cairngorms, Munro climbing in the Southern Highlands and some fantastic hill walking all over Scotland - light winds, clear blue skies and powder snow galore! It has been a truly glorious few months to be outside and enjoy life but I guess it depends on ones physical state and preference of weather. Personally it has been the greatest Winter of my life for memorable events and doing all the above! I will be sad when the snow/calm days end on the hills/mountains but I also love warm Spring days and hot Summer days so it’s win/win for me when these finally arrive!
  24. Yeah just read that - loads of them reporting 20cms of snow on the ground and still going while other areas have proper freezing rain/ice with windows and ground covered. Great thread they have too - quality banter. Lovely people in there. (South West and South Central England Thread) Sounds like it would be incredible if you were indoors watching it - never experienced something like that before! Oh and I am still waiting for that one magical heavy snow shower to blow through!
