  1. This has to be one of the greatest Winter charts ever seen for the UK and Ireland - everyone is in the freezer! My girlfriend is due to give birth to our first baby on March 5th - starting to wonder if the feeling of becoming a Dad will rival the excitement levels I have right now for these charts! What a time to be alive!!!!!
  2. I will just leave these here...ECM charts for 26/02, 27/02 and 28/02. Just incredible for all! (850’s going through South East England are insane - total carnage)
  3. Good morning all! Hope everyone is well. Well what a way to end the Meteorological Winter season this would be - perfect chart for me personally but snow all over different parts of Scotland for days on end on the latest GFS run. Most models and the Metoffice long range outlook all looking very wintry as we head into March - if it comes off like they are predicting I would go as far to say this has been the greatest Winter I have ever had. (every month has delivered - really has been exceptional so far and the best could be yet to come, especially for all our Eastern members on here from North to South!) Have a good weekend!
  4. I have actually just took a screenshot of this post incase I ever get a stupid urge to attempt a climb in horrendous Winter weather again - thank you very much for that. (have also took note of the links and Winter skills course - will definetly look into doing that!) Really drives home the message of how ridiculous it was to even consider it! Much appreciated yet again!
  5. Cheers for replying so quickly with fantastic feedback - all very much appreciated. On that note I will definitely not be going up Beinn Ime tomorrow! There is an adventure and then there is just being plain stupid! I will stick to walking/hiking/climbing the Munro’s/Corbetts on calm days when snow is about and during other seasons of the year - have an ice axe, crampons and microspikes which I have used before but never in anywhere near the kind of severe weather forecast for tomorrow. Again - thank you for the advice.
  6. Has anyone climbed a Munro or Corbett in the weather conditions attached below? I have been to the summits of Ben Nevis, Cairngorm Mountain and Ben Lomond to name a few but only in calm conditions. (mostly Summer weather, snow on the ground with light winds and clear visibility for the most part) Today would have been the perfect day for it but I didn’t have the time - off work tomorow so thought I would give it a bash! (Fully equipped and would make for a proper wild adventure) Think I might be biting off more than I can chew but was just curious to know if anyone has sampled walking conditions like this? (Blizzards, Storm force gusts, very poor visibility and feel like temperatures of -15?)
  7. Stopped off at Arrochar for twenty minutes on the way to my brothers house. Who needs the Swiss Alps when we have the Arrochar Alps? Unbelievable scenes - always breathtaking in Winter when snow is about.
  8. Paisley is having a great Winter! Nothing has reached here yet but fully expect to look out the window shortly to see this scene below...we can dream. Insane in Reykjavik, Iceland.
  9. Pummelling down with snow here for the last twenty minutes. Couple of centimetres on the ground now - more to come later. Some very hefty showers out West on the radar!
  10. @Stormeh You look in a better position for it than I do - you are 10 miles directly West of me which is going to make a big difference! Paisley looks a good spot also. We shall find out in five minutes!
  11. You should be getting hit any minute if the radar is correct! Blob over Oban looks like it has Glasgow’s name all over it. (If it does not break up before it gets there!)
  12. Showers coming in now at a better angle of attack for Glasgow and areas just South and East of there - Ayr also in the firing line still. Winds going from W to WSW in the next hour or two - best action looks early hours of the morning but should get more frequent snow showers making it through soon. Looks like it’s going to be a long day at work tomorrow after a very late night of snow watching! I would not have it any other way though.
  13. First heavy snow shower of the day blowing through here - tiny dusting but hopefully the start of many to come through tonight and tomorow morning.
  14. Looks as though for Glasgow and more Central areas the real fun will begin tonight (20:00pm and end about 09:00am tomorrow) Wind direction will definitely be more favourable - heavy snow showers will be plentiful and most areas should wake up to a couple of centimetres. (6cm for me @Hawesy) All good news as I can enjoy my Sunday roast this afternoon without looking out the window every minute. Great to see Ayr getting some beefy snow showers so far! Cheers!
  15. Morning all Some people seriously need to relax - just let it play out and enjoy the rollercoaster without getting sucked in with charts so far out. Summer Sun just posted in the Model Tweets Thread - with all the talk of the SSW here it is below. If you are craving snow/cold weather stay positive - at least it won’t be mild... Have a good Sunday!
  16. Good morning all Well the start of another snowy day here and continues through to Tuesday. (screenshots below for my location) Incredible Winter up here at a modest 65 meters above sea level in my area - December, January and now Febuary have all delivered. I will look back at this Winter with a sense of joy and fondness in later months and years - has been fantastic. Cheers.
  17. Afternoon all! Well I woke up this morning to a massive...two centimetres! It was just light snow to moderate snow here. (moderate being a 20 minute period) All very bizarre as it looked like I was in for at least five centimetres! I am guessing all the heavier action went North, East and South of me from looking at the snow depths/pictures in here. Even just up the road from me in East Kilbride they had the same amount as me! (up there just now - nothing left on pavements or roads, shaded areas have two centimetres max) - feels pleasant in the sun! Good to see all the pictures and reports from everyone - glorious stuff! Fantastic to see snow chances galore in a couple of days and beyond - what a bloody good Winter we are having! Cheers!
  18. Evening all! Hope everyone had a good day! This is it ladies and gents - another snow event! (obviously a small one but more people at risk which is fantastic!) Much better to have everyone on this thread at risk of a dusting rather than just one or two areas! Just about to make a hot chocolate, adjust the blinds for the perfect view of the orangey/red/pink sky and of course so I can view the lamp-post in all it’s falling snowflakes glory. Whether it be 1cm or 6cm - it will still always be the same to me...exciting, joyful, cherished childhood memories and sheer white mesmerising scenes! Cheers!
  19. Now this is interesting - below average temperatures Febuary and maybe March on the way and mention of a major SSW from the Metoffice. We could be in for a classic late Winter/early Spring cold spell! (probably jinxed it by saying that! ) Snow in the early hours of Boxing Day here which stayed on the ground and included a decent top up on 29/12/2017. (sadly all melted the next day but was great to have snow falling/laying during the festive season) Late on the 15/01/2018 extremely heavy snow showers move in and fall all day on the 16/01/2018 which is up there with the greatest Winter days of all time for me and many others! All this stays on the ground varying from 4 to 6 inches throughout that week and ends on 21/01/2018 with a full four hours of constant heavy snow. It really has been fantastic for most of us on here and with the screenshots attached below it is going to continue for a long while yet! Cheers!
  20. Appreciate all the comments and points of view - all duly noted. I have posted quite a few times over the years in the Model Output Discussion Thread and never had any problems - just a quick screenshot of a snow event for us and brief description saying something along the lines of snow on this day for Scotland usually does the trick for me, never had any negative comments or problems. I enjoy popping in there for a read everyday as I love to know what weather pattern/type may be expected two weeks away and beyond! If there is no mention of Scotland it does not annoy me one bit as I can quickly scan through all charts available myself and get a feel for what is expected plus always look in here to see what is going on all over Scotland. My favourite season of the year is Winter but closely followed by Summer as I also love heat and thunderstorms. (a rare occurrence here apart from maybe 15 days a year. ) With regards to my earlier comment about not really making it known about my love of weather to all in life - everyone knows I like it (I have a four seasons theme full sleeve tattoo and announce to everyone any impending exciting weather on a regular basis!) but they don’t know I am active on a weather forum or that I would happily go wild camping on top of a freezing/snowy mountain for the rest of Winter or as long as the snow stays for! Basically what I need to do is leave my family, girlfriend and friends behind every Winter, travel to Lapland and fall in love with a Scandinavian beauty (better for accommodation purpose) so I can indulge in all things Winter/Snow then repeat all this in Summer except travel to Miami and fall in love with any lady there so I can indulge in all things Summer/Thunderstorms! Spring and Autumn back in Scotland obviously.
  21. Good morning all! Great to see the snow starting to fall in the South East - long overdue and I hope everyone of you see some! Looking forward to popping in here over the next few days to see pictures of snowy scenes but more importantly a snowman or two! Enjoy!
  22. Not having a go at any particular person but I am finding the behaviour of a few of my fellow Scots embarrassing in here. There seems to be a growing contingent who seem to be obsessed with daily digs regarding anything Weather related against the South East of England and then we have some folk who announce they are going into the Model Output Discussion Thread to cause carnage? (We are all older than 12 years old here, right?) It is not banter when there is a constant undercurrent of it going on in here. It is all getting a bit tedious and I really do cringe reading this thread sometimes. Can we not just focus on making this thread a great hub of all things weather and general chit chat and cut out all the pish as stated above? I really do enjoy coming in here to see all the pictures posted from all over Scotland and the conversations most of the time are fantastic - I appreciate everyone of you as I have never told my family, girlfriend or my friends just how bad my obsession with the weather is so this is my gateway to indulge with like minded people. Have a good Sunday and hopefully this thread will be buzzing again with snow reports for the rest of Febuary and beyond!
  23. Insane shower came through about 10 minutes ago in this order...blue sky, dark clouds/light rain/heavy hail/massive flash of lightning then huge rumble of thunder/now snow falling. The joy of Winter!
  24. Currently in East Kilbride - sprinkling on the grass but that’s it. (heavy snow showers blowing through but not sticking) Places 200 meters and above doing really well today - can’t see much snow settling below that. Bring back the period late evening January 15th to January 21st please I am still buzzing from it! Plenty of Winter left and it’s looking good! Saturday the next possible snow event to keep an eye on! Have a good day everyone.
