  1. Best Winter here since 2010/11. Absolutely brilliant December and January with two notable severe gale events, 16 days with snow on the ground, lost count of the air/ground frosts number. Another week of cold weather ahead with a good chance of another few cm's tomorrow night - heading up to the Cairngorms for a bit of boarding next weekend - Scottish Winter in all its glory from home to the Highlands! COME ON ANDY!!!!!!!!
  2. Geezo guys - try and cheer up a little. From an IMBY point of view those who talked up this current cold/snowy spell were spot on - two sides to every moan/ramp. A ramp from me (sorry) - I am in the middle of a great cold spell which had an epic snowfall last Friday night, top up on Sunday morning and light snow on and off since. Max temps struggling to get above -1 since Saturday and snow still thick on the ground lasting until at least this Friday. Reading this page makes me realise how lucky I am, hopefully you guys get something soon. (If you like cold weather that is, early Spring for Mushy would be ideal) All the best. A wee picture as well to sum up this thread at the minute...
  3. Ah...but for coldies in North Western parts it has been a rather good Winter so far - 5th day with snow on the ground here with a little dusting to top it up tonight. December was alright here also. Not too shabby at all, especially after reading posts on here 10 days ago stating zonal all the way and temps just above average, :-) Charts still show snow surprises throughout the rest of this month so good times for coldies all over the UK and Ireland hopefully. And still all of Febuary to go - exciting times.
  4. Best to leave it be - models indepth discussion thread was created for members who complained about the exact same thing. Tumble weed blows through it on a daily basis. At the end of the day 99% of us are amateur weather enthusiasts, everyone can see/read charts and information for themselves and decide which members are on the wind up/in a huff because no snow is showing for them. The excitement regarding a favoured weather type should not be drained out of this forum. It's Winter on a weather forum...who would have thought members with a cold bias would be hogging a model output discussion thread? :-) In Summer it is the same with a warm bias except 800 less people. Have a good day all! I am off to enjoy the snow that has been falling on and off for the past 24 hours (blizzard conditions at times)
  5. Brilliant update Ian - many thanks for that. Hopefully every single member reads that and takes the information in rather than posting stuff about incoming blizzards or writing off a whole month of Winter. Naughty short spells of cold weather being more likely than last year is music to coldies ears - a more traditional Winter ahead then hopefully for all the UK and Ireland. The charts are showing that at the minute - mild days, cold days, cool days and severe gales. Something for everyone! Let's have a more positive attitude when posting in this thread going forward but still retain realism of course, (whether you prefer cold or mild - we are all weather enthusiasts at the end of the day) Makes for a better read and a more welcoming thread for all to enjoy. Cheers
  6. Into my third day of permanent ground frost and most of the time freezing fog - snowfall during the first week of December, Pretty good Winter so far although I would love more snow and a couple of severe gales thrown in for good measure. (Jan, Feb and even March to go for some of that) IDO I have never understood why you always wheel out those CFS charts? Ian Ferguson has already stated numerous times that the Metoffice never look at them or even discuss them. They are about as much use as a cat flap on a submarine, would rather watch a documentary on quicksand and then go for a bath in just my socks than look at them - just my opinion.
  7. Surely you are on the wind up mate with this post? So you are writing off January and you have also teleported into the future to tell me we might get a continental breeze sometime in late Feb or March. I am actually losing the will to live after reading some of the posts in this thread within the past couple of hours.
  8. Same old guff in the MOD thread - Winter is over, you can write off January, it is not going to be snowing in my back garden so everything will be zonal and mild for the next couple of weeks... We get the same in Summer when a few members post on June 28 that July will be a write off for any heat. I am all for an unbiased daily report - Gibby for example. The annoying posts come from certain members who pretend to be unbiased but really are just down in the dumps about not having seen any cold/hot spells so they take a glass half empty approach, add a sarcastic remark and that's when you get the rubbish. I have been a member on here since January 2009 and have enjoyed coming on every year to read the MOD thread with a positive attitude after viewing all charts available no matter what they show, never to put anyone on my ignore list and to read every single members post on any certain day but it is becoming difficult nowadays due to the negativity and constant daily mood swings of 5 to 10 people who appear during Summer or Winter with daft posts- sad thing being they are actually grown men. It has got to the point that I only enjoy reading certain members posts - for new members you will soon figure out who are worth a read and who to quickly skip past...
  9. No disrespect but I think you have lost the plot today. You are making absolutely no sense with talk of great cold set ups and biting northerlies. I live in a snow hotspot and all I will be getting within the next 7 days is a bit of sleet if I am lucky. Northern Scotland will no doubt see some snow and of course higher hills/mountains but the talk of great cold set ups is pure fantasy. My coldest day will be Christmas Day which shows a max of 4 degrees and a low of -2 that night. Cold and crisp for 24-48 hours and a little bit of wind afterwards - bog standard December fare for me and the rest of the UK.
  10. Fair play to you mushy - you do a fair amount of whinging during Winter but you are equal in Summer when others are getting carried away by Spanish plumes showing at +384 hours away. You give a balanced/unbiased view in Summer and with you being one of the biggest heat lovers on this site for so long I applaud you on that - love a hot Summer myself but we both know the chasing/hopecasting goes on in that season also. (Lesser numbers due to quieter forum) A few of the I hate cold and snow brigade who post daily in here with sarcastic one liners/personal attacks on members should take note from you. I have never understood if someone hates a certain season so much (Summer or Winter) why bother posting at all during it? Especially when it is a personal attack/sarcastic remark. There seem to be 3 or 4 people doing exactly that on a daily basis in here at the moment. Quite bizarre really! Would be nice if this thread could get back to being a light hearted ramp/moans thread without all the schoolgirl jibes, handbags and bed wetting schoolboy vibes. It is sad to see grown men having a personal agenda against certain members and weather types - if you don't like it don't post in the season you hate so much. Simples.
  11. Time for a ramp! Winter has arrived here - heavy snow showers blowing through every half an hour. Massive flakes! Only settling on the grass at present. Nothing better than a December snowfall in all its seasonal glory! Only downside is you guys down south are not joining in - still plenty of Winter to go for that.
  12. Ah Richard - I have been a member on here since December 2009 and it would not be the same without a weekly moan from you. Daft question but...ever thought about moving? :-) Air frost here this morning and a thick fog to boot - sheer bliss.
  13. Nothing for us tonight or tomorrow Ross. Metoffice have no warnings for Glasgow area. All the action will be out on the West Coast and some decent gusts for Ayrshire and Argyll and Bute. Non event for us this time.
  14. Time for a moan! So frustrating that we are always on the edge of having a fantastic Summer (prolonged heat and amazing thunderstorms) or sustained Winter cold with loads of snow! Just to the east of us they are baking in hot temperatures and sunshine and have been for weeks on end, check out Scandinavia for example . (I know the South east of England has done well so far but not as sustained or hot as the above) Winter it is the same old story, just to our east they are getting all the cold and snow! Really grinds my gears, always so close...yet so far. The British climate is incredibly tedious and boring. Thank god I am only a couple of hours drive from the Highlands, especially during dismal lowland Winters like 2013/14. It is my only saving grace.
  15. Looks like Bremen and Hannover are taking a beating from that monster storm. Hamburg will be in the firing line soon.
  16. Thundery UK showers don't quite cut the mustard when looking at/watching the storms over France/Belgium/Germany. :-D
  17. Absolutely bonkers! Amount of lightning strikes is insane!
  18. Grown men moaning about a regional thread on a weather website closing down... They are dead this time of the year, current weather is extremely boring/tedious. What's the point of them being open? There are loads of threads to chat all about numerous different topics. 100% agree with Paul - they are needed during the Winter months due to the sheer number of people who log on to Netweather He has stated a few times now...they will be opened again short term in the event of any local or national severe weather events. (Heatwaves, thunderstorms or anything else extreme) Seems fair to me. No point going on and on about it.
