  1. I know you love nothing more in life than mild temperatures but you are surely having a laugh with this post? If there are cold weather lovers fretting about long range charts and information then you need to get a grip, it is only October 28th! Folk on here are talking as if it is February 28th, 2014! Stay patient and relax, look at long term forecasts as a bit of a laugh. I do when I have a browse of the CFS 1 month or 9 month charts. (Whether it shows zonal or a big Easterly) We live in the UK not Scandinavia, Northerly topplers are our bread and butter. If we get a sustained few days or week of cold and snow then fantastic. What will be will be...NO-ONE can tell us what the Weather is going to be like in a months time. I am excited for December 1st to arrive and Winter to begin...bring on some snow for us all in December, January, February or March. (Even for Gavin and Ian)
  2. I wouldn't worry about Scandinavia snowfall or the PV setting up shop over Greenland in October. Winter begins December 1st, any snowfall or cold spell in the UK before this date is a bonus. It is Autumn, rain and mild temperatures are common. Embrace the British climate in all it's splendid glory and variety! Oh and post of the year so far goes to the member model rollercoaster...winter is over! Absolute comedy gold. :-D
  3. Yes, warm rain rather than cold rain. Roll on a below average Winter...a few more tedious Weather weeks to get through first.
  4. Guess it depends on preferences/activities each person has/does. I snowboard and always look forward to mid October onwards as it usually brings the first hope of frequent snow showers over the higher hill/mountains in the highlands. I get excited when the first mention of wintry over the Scottish mountains arrives in the metoffice forecast. So for me October is not pointless for cold weather but I can definitely understand why others find that it is.
  5. Just as well some of us don't live in in the South East then or South of Merseyside. :-)Glorious Autumn weather coming up IMBY. (If it actually happens of course!)
  6. Is it not always quiet on here between April and September?
  7. Exciting weather at last!I enjoy Spring weather in Spring. Summer weather in Summer. Autumn weather in Autumn. Winter weather in Winter. All very straight forward really. :-D

  9. Yes, how dare anyone post/talk about anything other than heatwaves or high pressure dominated charts.People can discuss anything the charts show, it is the model output discussion after all. I prefer Winter but I love Summer also. How about a bit of realism on outlooks and respect for everyone who makes a contribution to this thread? You can't label someone a coldie just because they have posted a chart that is not banging on about fantastic Summer weather. Great posts from John Holmes and Bluearmy last night that showed facts on model verification and the definition of a meaning.
  10. May was a horrendous month here, I had 2 days of fine weather. Rubbish temperatures and unsettled. (I am also based in the West)The overall pattern he called was correct, impossible to call local detail. My five days of glorious Summer weather comes to an end on Tuesday, was getting used to 20 degrees or higher on a daily basis with only one or two clouds in the sky.
  11. I don't see any doom and gloom on here today, just realism and honest posts with charts and information backing up exactly what the Met Office are forecasting - UK Outlook for Friday 24 May 2013 to Sunday 2 Jun 2013:Generally an east-west split is likely for the bank holiday weekend and into the new week, with the driest and brightest weather in the west together with a few showers, and the more unsettled conditions occurring further east and southeast. Some heavy rain is possible at times here, whilst more southwestern and western parts of the UK should fare better with more in the way of drier and brighter weather. It will also be quite windy at times, especially in the east with a risk of gales in more exposed areas. Temperatures will be below normal across the country, but towards the end of May the more unsettled weather is likely to shift to the northwest of the UK, with temperatures returning to nearer normal for the start of June. West will be best in the coming few days, hopefully see my highest temp of the year tomorrow! (22 degrees - maybe a storm or two also!) However, by Wednesday I am looking at a max of 13 degrees, at least it will be...dry! Summer has not even started yet so we have plenty of time remaining for sunny and hot weather. The problem is GFS gives us four runs a day and loads of people seem to take each run as gospel. GFS has been showing high pressure dominated fi charts since early April yet we are still waiting to see them become reality. It has to be right sooner rather than later, surely? Also well done to Snowking for calling this May pattern back in April (I know May is not over yet but currently looks to remain unsettled) I look forward to future thoughts from you regarding Summer.
  12. I think the problem here is that some folk have been ramping up high pressure dominated fi charts for 4 weeks now and most of us are still waiting on a decent settled spell of sunny and warm weather. (I have had one day of warm spring sunshine) On the other hand you have folk who prefer cooler weather so they also post unsettled dominated fi charts and it seems to go down like a lead balloon because most members on here at this time of the year only want to see and read that warm weather is just around the corner. (Nothing wrong with that, we all have our prefences) I don't think anyone is trolling, yes the member who is being accused of such prefers Wintry weather but he backs up his thoughts with charts and he is not far off with his latest thoughts going solely on the charts he posted. Thanks again Gibby for the fantastic summary and to Frosty for his daily updates. It is only mid May everyone, relax. We have plenty of time for heat and thunderstorms. Summer is approaching! I for one look forward to a sizzling Summer! (Hopefully!) The charts could be alot worse and as Phil said earlier, there is more to the outlook that just one run.
  13. I had no idea that temps were rounded, you learn something new every day! Heathrow hourly observations Tabular (last six hours)Graphical (last 24 hours) Date Time Weather Temp Wind Vis Pressure / trend Dir Speed Gust Tue 23 Apr 1500 18.9 °C W 11 mph 28 km 1020 hPa, Falling 1600 19.4 °C W 10 mph 26 km 1020 hPa, Falling 1700 20.2 °C W 11 mph 23 km 1020 hPa, Falling 1800 20.5 °C WSW 9 mph 25 km 1020 hPa, Falling 1900 19.8 °C W 10 mph 30 km 1020 hPa, Rising 2000 17.6 °C W 9 mph 30 km 1021 hPa, Rising 2100 16.6 °C W 7 mph 30 km 1022 hPa, Rising Ah well... :-)
  14. The highest temp in the UK today was 20.5 which equals 68.9 Fahrenheit.Socks are staying in the drawer for now... :-D Fed up of this weather IMBY, constant howling wind and showers on and off. Have not got above 14 degrees this year. Oh how I wish for a calm, sunny and warm day, tedious weather currently.
  15. Frosty if anywhere in the UK gets into the 70's next week as you suggested I will eat my socks. The only parts of the UK which will see any decent temps are the South and East of England next week. Even this weekend with plenty of fine weather about (Saturday mostly) the North is looking at 12 degrees max and the South 15 degrees max. Hardly anything to get excited about in normal circumstances. (The long run of cold months has everyone chasing a sniff of warmer weather) The ECM has this nailed, cooler and unsettled is the way ahead. The ens mean for the beloved GFS in here shows it. I enjoy reading what you post but I think the orange and reds on the maps are CLOUDING your judgement. More HIGHS and LOWS to come in this thread over the next month I feel, SUN would say we are DEW a early heatwave. But as you know it never rains but it pours when we wish for something different. Have you read the recent Met Office outlook? UK Outlook for Tuesday 23 Apr 2013 to Thursday 2 May 2013: Largely unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain across the UK. Initially the rain will be heaviest and most persistent across the north and west, and showers may turn wintry at times across northwestern hills. The south and east of the country will see the best of the dry and bright weather with some spells of sunshine. At first temperatures will generally be near or just below normal across the north and west but perhaps rather warm in brighter interludes in the south and east. Later next week and into the following week, the unsettled weather in the northwest will probably spread southeast to all parts. Temperatures will become rather cold or cold in all areas with overnight frosts probably becoming more widespread.
